Glenmorangie’s botanical notes bring the wonder of the forest to life with the launch of A Tale of the Forest – Scotch Whisky News

Glenmorangie’s botanical notes bring the wonder of the forest to life with the launch of A Tale of the Forest

Experimental single malt’s botanical notes bring

the wonder of the forest to life

— Deliciously herbaceous whisky inspires technicolour work by illustrator Pomme Chan —

Lush and deliciously herbaceous, Glenmorangie A Tale of the Forest is Glenmorangie’s first whisky ever crafted from barley kilned with woodland botanicals. Inspired by the natural, everchanging wonder Glenmorangie’s Director of Whisky Creation encounters as he wanders the woods near his home, this experimental limited edition evokes the scents, sounds and sights of the forest itself. Dr Bill Lumsden created its notes of pine, juniper and wood smoke by bringing back an ancient method of kilning barley with botanicals. So delightful are these flavours they have led illustrator Pomme Chan to dream up her own fantastical forest, showcased on the whisky’s pack.

For over 175 years, Glenmorangie’s whisky creators have been endlessly imaginative in their quest to create delicious single malts – none more so than Dr Bill, known for his ‘What if…?’ approach to whisky. Some years ago, dreaming of a whisky which captured the wonder of a walk in the forest, Dr Bill recalled how ancient Highland whisky makers dried their barley with all kinds of forest fuel. He began experimenting by kilning his barley with many different botanicals. And he discovered the wondrously different flavours which juniper berries, birch bark and heather flowers could bring, when married with a little peat. In this way, he created a batch of spirit with rare aromas of pine needles and juniper, laced with wisps of smoke. Then he aged it in bourbon casks including many refill casks, chosen to allow the spirit’s flavours to shine.

Pairing up with Glenmorangie to bring the whisky’s flavours to life on its pack, Thai illustrator Pomme Chan walked deep into her favourite forest in northern Thailand and began to draw, taking inspiration from her surroundings and her conversations with Dr Bill about Scotland. Soon she created her own fantastical forest, which inspires the packaging’s design. A feast of sumptuous technicolour, her illustration echoes the flavours and botanicals of the whisky – with blossoming heather, fragrant juniper and oranges and pine cones dancing on the breeze.

Dr Bill said: “Every time I go into the woods where I live, I notice something new, be it the fragrance of last night’s rainfall or the sound of leaves rustling a particular way. I began to imagine how we could bring the forest to life in a whisky, by kilning barley with materials from woodland, the way our ancestors did. After many experiments, we fell in love with the flavours brought by juniper, birch bark and heather, to create a Glenmorangie as lush and leafy as the forest itself. With aromas of pine needles, woodland moss, juniper’s sharpness, and tastes of eucalyptus, mint, bitter orange and distant smoke, A Tale of the Forest is a whisky to surround, delight and surprise you, whether you enjoy it deep in a forest or in cocktails at home.”

Pomme said: “I’m so excited to be collaborating with Glenmorangie for this delicious limited edition. To me, a forest is all about the senses – the fragrance, as well as what you see and hear. Through my illustration, I wanted to convey the mysterious depth of the forest as well as the botanicals and flavours you can find in the whisky: heather, juniper, orange mint… I hope the pack draws people in and invites them to imagine themselves enjoying Glenmorangie A Tale of Forest on a hike or a picnic… in a forest, of course!”

Glenmorangie A Tale of the Forest is available to purchase from 3rd October 2022 (via Selfridges exclusively until 17th October). Visit glenmorangie.com to see Pomme Chan’s artwork and discover a selection of botanical Glenmorangie cocktails created by renowned Swedish forager and mixologist Emil Åreng. Guests can also enjoy A Tale of the Forest at a takeover of the Green Bar at London’s Café Royal. A special cocktail menu and venue takeover will be running from the 12th October until the end of December 2022.

About Glenmorangie:

Glenmorangie’s whisky makers use endless imagination and five key ingredients – wood, water, barley, yeast and time – to dream up delicious single malt whiskies. They’ve been honing their craft for more than 175 years. They create a delicate and fruity spirit in stills as tall as a giraffe to allow for more taste and aroma. Led by Director of Whisky Creation Dr Bill Lumsden, this crackerjack crew are on a mission to bring new flavours and possibilities to the world of single malt.

Glenmorangie celebrates the joy of delicious single malt in every part of its universe, from its boutique hotel Glenmorangie House to its colourful brand campaign, shot by famed photographer Miles Aldridge. With its tagline “It’s kind of delicious and wonderful”, Glenmorangie invites whisky lovers old and new to see themselves in Glenmorangie’s world.

About Dr Bill Lumsden:

Dr Bill Lumsden’s favourite phrase is “What if?”. And throughout more than 25 years with Glenmorangie, the Distillery’s Creative Director has challenged himself and his team to take whatever captures their imaginations and turn it into whisky – be that the magic of a snowy day (A Tale of Winter) the joy of a cake moment (Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake), a cup of coffee (Glenmorangie Signet), a beautiful barley field near the Distillery (Glenmorangie Allta) and more. With a PhD in biochemistry and decades of experience, Dr Bill has all the skills needed to bring these ideas to life. Already, he has earned the admiration of his peers many times over. For instance, he has taken his place in the Icons of Whisky Hall of Fame. He has won the International Whisky Competition’s award for Master Distiller of the Year more times than anyone else. And he has been named Master Blender/Distiller of the Year by the International Spirits Challenge twice.

About the creation of Glenmorangie A Tale of the Forest:

Endlessly enchanted by the sights, sounds and scents of the woodland near his home, Dr Bill has always imagined bringing them to life in a whisky. And many years ago, recalling how the ancient whisky makers would have used moss, fallen trees, heather and many other kinds of fuel found in the forest to dry their barley, he began to experiment by using different botanicals to kiln his grain. After a series of trials, he found that heather, juniper and birch bark gave the most deliciously aromatic and forest-like flavours. And with barley dried in this way, he distilled a precious batch of spirit. Dr Bill aged this rare spirit for years in a range of bourbon casks, including many refill casks, which he chose to showcase the spirit’s rare aromatic notes. As lush and leafy as the forest, his creation brims with notes of juniper and coriander from the juniper, sappy, green notes of damp woodland and pine needles from the birch wood and soft, herbal scents from the heather flowers. All these flavours are entwined with Glenmorangie’s signature citrus notes.

About Pomme Chan:

Pomme, who lives and works in Bangkok, Thailand, was identified as a young talent when studying in London. Known and respected in Asia for her unique skill in hand-drawing, she has previously collaborated with many global brands. Her eclectic style takes its inspiration from everyday life, nature, abstract shapes, architecture and free form. To find inspiration for her immersive technicolour artwork, she spent time drawing in Wat Chan Pine Forest, the country’s largest pine forest, located in Chiang Mai, in the north of Thailand. Through hand-drawing and digital techniques, Pomme’s illustration brings to life her own interpretation of the forest, featuring key botanicals and flavour notes (mint, eucalyptus, heather, orange, juniper, angelica and pine) from the whisky.

FIRST PEATED WHISKY CONCLUDES 50TH ANNIVERSARY TRILOGY – Scotch Whisky News

FIRST PEATED WHISKY CONCLUDES

50TH ANNIVERSARY TRILOGY

GlenAllachie’s accredited whisky master Billy Walker concludes anniversary celebrations by

releasing maiden peated distillate as final expression in commemorative series

The GlenAllachie Distillers Company today reveals the last bottling in The Past, Present & Future Series as the first ever distillate produced under their ownership: The GlenAllachie Billy Walker 50th Anniversary Future Edition 4-year-old Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

The celebratory series, which launched in May, pays tribute to foremost whisky maker Billy Walker’s extraordinary 50-year-long stint in the Scotch whisky industry. Each instalment in the trilogy has been carefully selected to reflect a key milestone in the expert blender’s career.

The Future Edition (UK RRSP £80), a young and punchy 4-year-old peated single malt, offers whisky enthusiasts the chance to sip and speculate on possible subsequent bottlings from The GlenAllachie Distillery following Walker’s takeover in 2017.

The historic release represents the first whisky bottled by the distillery to have been created under Walker and impacted by his production modifications. These include an 80% production drop, which allows for greater supervision throughout the maturation journey, and facilitates an increase in fermentation duration to 160 hours creating an ester-rich spirit with thicker mouthfeel.

Since spearheading The GlenAllachie, Walker began producing peated spirit for around six weeks annually to diversify the distillery’s offering and unleash new opportunities for innovation and experimentation.

Matured in former Rye and Bourbon barrels, as well as virgin oak casks, the feisty 4-year-old Scotch whisky selected for The Future Edition remained under careful supervision within one of the distillery’s 16 on-site warehouses in Speyside.

Made with mainland peat from St Fergus, the flavour contribution is sweeter with distinguishing oaky tones in contrast to the more medicinal or maritime notes anticipated of a coastal peat.

The barley was kilned to 80ppm (parts per million) offering up distinctive smoky yet sweet flavour characteristics: smouldering oak, cinnamon apples and chocolate-covered hazelnuts, alongside puffs of earthy peat smoke.

The momentous release is limited to 10,000 bottles worldwide; each proudly presented at cask strength of 60.2% ABV, natural colour and non chill filtered.

Reflecting on this pivotal bottling, Walker said:

“It’s beyond exciting to release our very own whisky distilled since we took over this hidden gem of a distillery in 2017. I eagerly await the reaction amongst whisky fans to this first glimpse at both our own distillate, and our peated work. The response will unquestionably influence where we take things next.

“The timing of the launch is apt as we celebrate our fifth anniversary of ownership next month. We are so very fortunate to be steering this great distillery into the future. I think the best is yet to come.”

The Future Edition joins the two other expressions in the range; The Past Edition, a 16-year-old 100% Sherry Matured single malt released in May, and The Present Edition, a 16-year-old Mizunara Virgin Oak Finish, announced in July.

The GlenAllachie Billy Walker 50th Anniversary Future Edition is available via global specialist retailers, with a UK RRSP of £80.

ABOUT BILLY WALKER’S CAREER:

Graduating from the University of Glasgow in 1967 with a BSc Honours Degree in Chemistry, a youthful Billy Walker had the perfect foundations to enable him to build an intimate knowledge of the science behind whisky making and flavour development.

Billy’s whisky journey began in 1972 at Hiram Walker & Sons – the company behind Ballantine’s at the time – where his role covered almost all aspects of production. After four years, he moved on to Inver House Distillers, taking up the position of Master Blender in 1976.

Fast-forward to 1982, Billy joined Burn Stewart Distillers where he went on to spend two decades, most notably playing a key part in the resurrection of Deanston and Tobermory Distilleries. When the company was sold, an entrepreneurial Billy was left to decipher his next move.

The next twelve years saw him acquire BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh Distilleries, each of which were either mothballed, closed or under exposed to the market. It was at this point in his career where Billy truly made a name for himself within the industry, leading the brands’ rejuvenation and subsequent phenomenal success.

Billy’s next move was to his current position as owner and Master Distiller at The GlenAllachie Distillers Company, encompassing The GlenAllachie single malt, White Heather blended Scotch and MacNair’s Boutique House of Spirits. 2021 saw Billy delve into a new spirits category for the first time, releasing a new experimental rum line under the MacNair’s label; Exploration Rum.

It’s from this incredible record of success that Billy has earnt widespread acclaim and recognition for being one of the most prominent whisky figures of his generation.

ABOUT GLENALLACHIE:

One of Scotland’s few independently owned and managed distilleries, The GlenAllachie is led by industry veteran, Billy Walker, who boasts a 50-year tenure in whisky. With an emphasis on wood policy, The GlenAllachie’s cask budget for 2022 stands at an eye-watering £2m/$2.6m. With 16 on-site warehouses holding over 50,000 casks, we have complete control of the end-to-end maturation process.

The GlenAllachie focusses on quality over quantity, which is why we chose to reduce our production capacity from 4m to 500,000 Litres of Alcohol and increase our fermentation period to 160 hours for an ester rich, fruity spirit.

We believe age and integrity matter, which is why all our whiskies carry an age statement, and are bottled at a minimum of 46% ABV, natural colour and non-chill filtered for maximum flavour experience.

Our other brands are MacNair’s Boutique House of Spirits – encompassing Lum Reek Blended Malt Scotch Whisky and Exploration Rum – and White Heather Blended Scotch Whisky.

Gov. Beshear Proclaims September as Bourbon Heritage Month in Kentucky – Kentucky Whisky News

Gov. Beshear Proclaims September as Bourbon Heritage Month in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. –  In recognizing the Commonwealth’s centuries-old distilling industry, its direct ties to agriculture and its monumental economic and tourism impact, Gov. Andy Beshear has proclaimed September as Bourbon Heritage Month in Kentucky.

The Governor on Tuesday presented the formal proclamation to Kentucky Distillers’ Association President Eric Gregory during the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame® induction ceremony in Bardstown, the Bourbon Capital of the WorldⓇ.

The proclamation, available here, highlights the state’s $9 billion Bourbon and distilling industry, how it drives tourism across the Commonwealth and sustains more than 22,500 jobs with an annual payroll topping $1.23 billion.

And, it cites Kentucky Bourbon as a chief part of Kentucky’s agricultural, agritech and agritourism industries, with distillers purchasing more than 13.5 million bushels of corn and other grains every year from local farm families – a number that continues to grow.

Gregory welcomed the proclamation and lauded the industry’s growth and impact.

“With continued growing interest and global demand in our historic and homegrown distilling industry, Kentucky Bourbon provides more vital jobs and revenue streams for our Commonwealth and local communities than ever before,” he said.

“We’re proud and honored to carry forward the rich distilling traditions that have been a defining agricultural and industrial endeavor since before Kentucky was a state, while adding countless tourism dollars to local coffers through our Kentucky Bourbon Trail® experiences.”

The distilling industry is currently in the middle of a $5.2 billion, 10-year building boom with $3.3 billion of announced investment coming across the next four years, including more than $100 million in tourism capital investments.

Bourbon production has skyrocketed more than 435% since the turn of the century. Kentucky now boasts more than 10.3 million barrels of Bourbon aging in warehouses across the Bluegrass, the most in its revered distilling history.

Distillers filled more than 2.4 million barrels in 2020 alone, the third year in a row that production topped the two million mark.

Tourists made more than 1.5 million stops at Kentucky Bourbon Trail® and Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour® distilleries in 2021, a milestone that continues to grow and rebound from COVID and subsequent closures in 2020.

Still, the industry faces a number of challenges – both at home and around the country.

As the number of distilleries in other U.S. states continues to grow – now more than 2,200 across 49 states – Kentucky is at risk of losing its historic industry dominance. This year alone, Kentucky fell from 11th to 12th in the number of licensed distilleries.

Almost all of the states ahead of Kentucky have a significantly lower tax burden on spirits. In Kentucky, about 60% of every bottle of spirits goes towards taxes and fees. Kentucky also is only one of two states with a wholesale tax in addition to excise and sales taxes.

Bourbon is the highest taxed industry in Kentucky, paying $285 million in local and state taxes annually, as well as $1.8 billion in federal alcohol taxes – more federal taxes than any other state in the nation.

The Bluegrass State continues to be the only place in the world that unfairly taxes aging barrels of spirits. This discriminatory tax – the subject of a current legislative task force – punishes growth and pushes startup distilleries to competitor states.

“Other states have made it blatantly clear – they want what Kentucky has in distillery jobs, tourism and investment,” Gregory said. “If Kentucky is going to maintain its distilling dominance, policymakers must reform these excessive alcohol taxes to remove barriers to entry and incentivize more growth.”

In delivering the proclamation to the KDA at this week’s Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame event, Gov. Beshear also thanked the association and the Bourbon community for stepping up in times of need.

The KDA and its partners raised nearly $5 million in separate “Kentucky Bourbon Benefit” auctions of rare bottles and private barrel selections for relief efforts after the catastrophic Western Kentucky tornadoes and Eastern Kentucky floods.

Both auctions were the largest single donations to the Team Kentucky relief funds, the Governor said.

“As a signature industry, it’s both incumbent and important that we give back to our fellow Kentuckians in times of great tragedy and need,” Gregory said. “We’re grateful for the Governor’s ongoing support for Bourbon, the backing of the state and its communities, and the fervent interest from enthusiasts and tourists around the world.”

Kentucky Bourbon Benefit Raises More Than $1.4 Million For Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief

Kentucky Bourbon Benefit Raises More Than $1.4 Million For Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Bourbon Benefit auction of rare and signed bottles, private barrel selections and more raised over $1.4 million to help ease suffering and restore hope for Eastern Kentucky residents whose communities were ravaged by historic flooding last month.

The Kentucky Distillers’ Association partnered with the Bourbon Crusaders charitable organization, Bourbon curator Fred Minnick and Louisville-based Westport Whiskey & Wine on the 10-day auction at www.kybourbonbenefit.com.

All proceeds are going directly to the state’s official Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund. To learn more, visit https://secure.kentucky.gov/FormServices/Finance/EKYFloodRelief. The state-operated fund assesses no fees on donations.

A similar auction in December raised $3.4 million for tornado relief in Western Kentucky – the single largest donation to the state’s fund for that disaster – bringing the total for both auctions to nearly $5 million.

The floods hit overnight on July 27 and from first light, KDA members began sending totes, tankers and bottles of fresh water to impacted areas. They donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to relief funds and organized drives for supplies and critical needs as well.

To date, their combined monetary and supply donations toward flood relief total more than $275,000, including a $100,000 cash donation from Brown-Forman Corp. and $50,000 each from Beam Suntory, Four Roses and Campari / Wild Turkey.

“Once again, we are humbled and honored by the outpouring of support from the Bourbon community to help our fellow Kentuckians,” KDA President Eric Gregory said. “As a signature industry, it’s our duty to go above and beyond and give back, especially in times of need.

“It was heartwarming to see our distilleries spring into action when this tragedy occurred,” Gregory said. “We pray that it never happens again, although we are proud and comforted to know that our industry’s centuries-long tradition of caring for Kentuckians continues to this day.”

Minnick, a best-selling author and Bourbon expert, said the auction’s success demonstrates the fabric of the distilling industry, enthusiasts, nonprofits and others in its sphere .  “I am so proud of the Bourbon community for its philanthropic heart and how it always shows up for people in need,” he said.

“This Kentucky Bourbon Benefit is a testament to every collector and distiller in the Bourbon community. However, I hope we don’t have to do this again, but if we do, the Bourbon community will be there for people in need.”

R.J. Sargent, founder of the Bourbon Crusaders, said the outpouring of support has been outstanding. “The Bourbon Crusaders are once again humbled and grateful to the Bourbon community for using our shared passion to help those in need,” he said.

“From distilleries and enthusiasts donating amazing bottles and experiences, to the people across the nation who bid and won, your generosity will help the people of Eastern Kentucky whose lives and homes were devastated by the recent flooding.

“This is what makes the Bourbon community great – we celebrate in times of joy and rally together in times of need.”

Chris Zaborowski, owner of Westport Whiskey & Wine, also expressed hope and condolences. “We are extremely proud to represent the retail sector in this endeavor and bring new hope and rebuilding to our neighbors and friends affected by the tragic flooding.

“The behind-the-scenes work of my staff and our partners to facilitate this auction is merely a tribute to the incredible efforts in Eastern Kentucky so far and the work ahead for the many residents, businesses and organizations in rebuilding the affected communities.”

A total of 3,626 bidders representing all 50 states and Washington D.C. vied for the auction’s 533 lots, placing more than 17,300 bids in total.

Kentucky led the way by far with nearly 775 registered bidders, followed by Ohio (295), Tennessee (203), Florida (198) and Indiana (190).

Highlights included:

  • A private barrel selection at Four Roses Distillery, aged 13 to 16-years, sold for $157,250. The historic Anderson County distillery then contributed a matching barrel to the second-place bidder for the same price.
  • Four Roses donated 15 other lots, including two rare 20-year old bottles that commemorated its new visitors center, a 109th Rose Bowl game package and the first six numbered bottles of its annual small batch limited release, bringing the distillery’s final tally to $357,909 raised.
  • In addition, Four Roses is selling a limited number of 16-year-old private selection bottles on Monday, Aug. 29., at its Lawrenceburg and Cox’s Creek distilleries. The cost is $200 each, and all proceeds benefit the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund.
  • Private barrel selections donated by Willett Distillery in Nelson County brought both the largest and third-largest bids on single items. Willett’s 10-year Bourbon barrel experience sold for $168,099 and a 10-year rye barrel experience ended at $137,000.
  • Winning lots from Angel’s Envy totaled more than $106,000, including a private barrel experience of its cask-strength finished Bourbon that went for $89,402 and two sets of 10 bottles from each year of its barrel proof bottles.
  • Other private barrel experiences and their winning bids include: Wild Turkey, $48,000; Maker’s Mark, $46,000; New Riff, $45,000; Elijah Craig, $27,199; Bulleit Bourbon, $24,500 and Wilderness Trail, $20,000.
  • Jefferson’s Ocean, which donated 300 bottles, and Smooth Ambler – with 372 bottles donated – helped draw in thousands of “Buy it Now” bidders. In total, the Jefferson’s bottles raised nearly $35,000 and Smooth Ambler’s brought in more than $21,000.
  • Longtime Eastern Kentucky resident Barbara Lawwill donated her late husband’s collection of decanters and bottles, which raised $5,529 in total.

Gregory said many KDA members continue to organize and deliver needed supplies to Eastern Kentucky and several are exploring ways to help raise money and awareness during September, which is “Bourbon Heritage Month” in Kentucky.

Bourbon is one of Kentucky’s most treasured industries, a homegrown $9 billion economic and tourism engine sustaining 22,500 jobs with a yearly payroll topping $1.23 billion each year, and paying over $285 million in local and state taxes and $1.8 billion in federal alcohol taxes annually.

“Kentucky distillers are a vital part of the Commonwealth’s agriculture, tourism and manufacturing industries and a backbone of local economies through jobs, tax revenue, investment and charitable giving,” Gregory said.

“Making the world’s best Bourbon is an honor and a privilege we don’t take lightly. This effort has been proof once again that Bourbon brings us together, in good times and bad. Please join us in keeping our families, friends and neighbors in Eastern Kentucky in your hearts and prayers.”

Filmland Spirits Launches Its Initial Collection of Whiskey In The U.S. ~ Filmland Whiskey News

Filmland Spirits Launches Its Initial Collection of Whiskey In The U.S.

The award-winning spirits brand uniquely blends the worlds of film and whiskey together

Los Angeles, CA (September 1, 2022) – Filmland Spirits announces its world premiere in the U.S. market unveiling three core whiskey expressions – “Moonlight Mayhem!” – Bourbon, “Moonlight Mayhem! Extended Cut” – Cask Strength Bourbon, and “Ryes of the Robots” – Rye Whiskey.

Filmland Spirits is disrupting the industry by creating A Blockbuster in Every Bottle®. Combining its enthusiasm for whiskey, passion for movies and dedication for storytelling, Filmland Spirits aims to bring people together through captivating tales and great tasting spirits. Crafted with a moviemaking mindset, Filmland approaches whiskey production much like the making of a feature film.  The creative team starts with their vision for an original retro B-Movie concept.  This evolves into a script with robots and monsters, heroes and villains and a plot that keeps your mouth watering.

From there, Filmland Spirits designs an original movie poster in pulp-style art consistent with the B-movie genre; this becomes the front label for each expression, a truly unique innovation in the world of spirits. The bottle itself is tall, heavy and distinct and inspired by the world of moviemaking.

Consumers will have the chance to preview each story on the back label which shows a synopsis of the B-movie and the key characters. Those itching to know more about each story can head to the Filmland website to read snippets of the script, view storyboards and even watch an animated trailer! Filmland’s award-winning spirits are sourced from the finest whiskey throughout the U.S. Once “on location” in Kentucky, they are blended to perfection then finished and bottled. Filmland Spirits CEO, Troy Bolotnick, explains more:

“After a lifetime of blending together passions for storytelling, movie-making and whiskey, we are thrilled to invite everyone to the premiere of Filmland Spirits!  I’m incredibly proud of the crew we’ve assembled and all the creativity and skill  that has resulted in our award winning bourbons and rye. They are delicious and fun, outrageous and unique and  I can’t wait for our audience of customers to dim the lights, grab a bottle and enjoy the show!”

Ahead of its launch, Filmland Spirits impressed tastemakers within the spirits industry by winning multiple awards at the 2022 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Filmland took home two gold medals; one for its small batch cask strength straight bourbon – “Moonlight Mayhem! Extended Cut” – and one for its small batch straight rye whiskey – “Ryes of the Robots”. Its small batch straight bourbon expression – “Moonlight Mayhem!” – received a silver medal. Not only are these medals a testament to the quality of each whiskey, but also debut the team’s superior blending skills. We can expect to see this applied to future expressions as the collection expands.

Consumers who wish to purchase “Moonlight Mayhem!” – Bourbon (SRP: $54.99), “Moonlight Mayhem! Extended Cut” – Cask Strength Bourbon  (SRP: $79.99) and “Ryes of the Robots” – Rye Whiskey (SRP: $59.99) will be able to pick up a bottle at  select spirits stores in California and Kentucky. Filmland Spirits are also available for purchase via their website and select e-commerce retailers, and can be shipped to a large number of states in the U.S. For additional information about Filmland Spirits please visit www.filmlandspirits.com and be sure to follow Filmland Spirits on Instagram

About Filmland Spirits: Founded in 2020, Filmland Spirits is a new, California based company founded by a crew of whiskey enthusiasts, movie buffs and storytellers.  Filmland Spirits produces whiskey and whiskey inspired spirits on location in Kentucky, USA. In the Fall of 2022, Filmland Spirits launched its initial three whiskey expressions consisting of two bourbons and a rye whiskey. Its ultra-premium and award-winning liquids are housed in custom bottles inspired by the world of moviemaking, then paired with a label that is a movie poster based on an original B-movie script written specifically for each expression. Filmland Spirits are truly Stories You Can Drink® and offer an original and unique concept to the liquor category that ensures there’s A Blockbuster in Every Bottle.®

The Filmland Spirits crew consists of serial entrepreneurs with proven track records, corporate execs from CPG, and entertainment as well as spirits industry veterans in sales/distribution and marketing.  The company is a unique combination of creatives, writers, whiskey nerds and business leaders with a passion for storytelling and great tasting, high quality spirits.

About Each Whiskey Expression

The first expression in Filmland Spirits core whiskey lineup, “Moonlight Mayhem!” –  Bourbon is a small batch straight bourbon whiskey aged in a white American Oak casks for 4+ years. This 94 proof whiskey is delicious and sweet, with notes of cherry and citrus on the nose, vanilla and caramel on the tongue and an intricate finish of toffee and toasted oak. Emphasizing versatility, this Bourbon can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail. Consumers will be delighted and terrified by the Moonlight Mayhem! story: the Romeo and Juliet inspired saga is set in a post-modern world where werewolves are the dominant species on planet earth. Consumers will wonder if hero Tommy Dawson and Slyvane Saxon, his shape-shifting carnivorous girlfriend, can protect their love from disapproving families and dangerous foes? Or if she will be unable to resist sinking her teeth into the delicious snack that is her sweetheart? Consumers curious to learn more about Moonlight Mayhem! can head to the brand website to read pages of the script, see storyboards and watch the movie trailer.

Like classic films that get the extended cut treatment, Filmland Spirits second core expression “Moonlight Mayhem! Extended Cut” – Cask Strength Bourbon is a small batch straight bourbon just like “Moonlight Mayhem!”. It is also aged in white American Oak casks for 4+ years, but comes in at a proof of 115. This cask-strength bourbon has special notes and flavors one wouldn’t experience with the regular strength: it keeps consumers on the edge of their seats with twists and turns of cherry and chocolate on the nose and tongue, a spectacularly creamy mouthfeel and an endless finish of cacao, leather and applewood. Enjoyed neat or with a drop of water, this expression will surely delight consumers. Just like the original story, Moonlight Mayhem! Extended Cut continues the saga between Tommy Dawson and Slyvane Saxon but with the inclusion of deleted scenes from the original script, making for an extra rich story. Consumers yearning to learn more about Moonlight Mayhem! Extended Cut can visit the brand website to read pages of the script, see storyboards and preview the movie trailer.

Filmland Spirits third expression – “Ryes of the Robots” – Rye Whiskey – is a small batch straight rye whiskey aged in white American Oak barrels for 4+ years. This complex 94 proof rye whiskey has spicy notes of cinnamon and clove on the nose, mint and pepper on the tongue and a long chocolatey finish with subtle hints of oak. Best served neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail, this rye is sure to please whiskey fans who prefer a bit of zest in their dram. Like the whiskey itself, the Ryes of the Robots story provides a spicy take on the world’s future. In the aftermath of the Automation Wars of 3050, the world rejects technology and embraces a simpler time where cocktail clubs are the new state houses and bartenders hold sway.

When a fallen technology titan builds an army of robotic bartenders to conquer the world, the only hope is Courtney Winters, the Cocktail Consortium’s number one bartender. Can she fend off this despotic army of mechanized mixologists or will this be the world’s unhappiest hour?!

Consumers curious to learn more about the Ryes of the Robots can head to the brand website to read pages of script, see storyboards and watch the movie trailer.

WEYBRIDGE, Vt., September 8, 2022—Lost Lantern, an independent bottler of American whiskey, is pleased to announce their Fall 2022 collection, featuring five limited edition single casks from Boulder Spirits in Colorado, Cedar Ridge Distillery in Iowa, Copperworks Distilling in Washington, and Breuckelen Distilling in New York.

Co-Founders Nora Ganley-Roper and Adam Polonski chose to focus on a theme of “discovery” when they selected the whiskies to be released in the Fall 2022 Collection. “All the single casks in this collection come from distilleries that are locally or regionally beloved and very highly regarded, but not that widely available outside of their home markets. With this Collection, we want to help whiskey drinkers discover some really unique whiskies from distilleries they may have heard of, but not been able to actually get their hands on until now,” said Adam.

Beginning September 21st, Lost Lantern’s Fall 2022 single cask collection will be available for sale on LostLanternWhiskey.com, Seelbachs.com, and at select retailers in California and Alberta, Canada. As always, all offerings are released with full transparency, bottled at cask strength, are non-chill-filtered and have natural color.

  • Boulder Spirits Peated Colorado Single Malt Whiskey (164 btls): SRP, $130
  • Cedar Ridge Iowa 5-Year-Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey (100 btls): SRP, $100
  • Cedar Ridge Iowa 6-Year-Old Straight Malted Rye Whiskey (211 btls): SRP, $90
  • Copperworks Distilling Washington Single Malt (Single Farm, Single Variety) (225 btls): SRP, $100
  • Breuckelen Distilling 8-Year-Old New York Malted Wheat Whiskey (165 btls): SRP, $120

Single casks are an essential piece of the Lost Lantern model, inspired by the long tradition of independent bottlers in Scotland. Since its debut in October 2020, Lost Lantern has released 36 one-of-a-kind single casks from 18 of the finest distilleries in the United States: Santa Fe Spirits (NM), Cedar Ridge (IA), New York Distilling Company (NY), Ironroot Republic (TX), Whiskey Del Bac (AZ), Balcones (TX), Watershed (OH), Boulder Spirits (CO), Spirit Works (CA), St. George Spirits (CA), McCarthy’s (OR), Smooth Ambler (WV), Starlight (IN), Westward (OR), Frey Ranch Distillery (NV), Dad’s Hat (PA), Copperworks Distilling (WA), and Breuckelen Distilling (NY).

ABOUT LOST LANTERN’S FALL 2022 SINGLE CASK COLLECTION

Lost Lantern’s single casks show that the best whiskey reflects where it’s made, how it’s made, and who made it, and demonstrate that compelling whiskey comes from across the United States.

2022 Single Cask #12: Boulder Spirits Peated Colorado Single Malt Whiskey

(164 btls | 148.94 Proof): SRP, $130

Boulder Spirits was founded by Scotsman Alastair Brogan, who has brought Scottish whisky making traditions to the Rockies. Made from 100% peated Scottish barley, this whiskey was aged for 5 years in new oak. It’s heavily peated and very smoky, with flavors of smoked figs, bacon-wrapped dates, bitter orange marmalade, and fresh-baked brownies. *Note: Boulder’s high altitude tends to result in high-proof spirits. Single Cask #12 was bottled at its natural cask strength of 148.94 proof.

2022 Single Cask #13: Cedar Ridge Iowa 5-Year-Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey

(100 btls | 123.08 Proof): SRP, $100

It’s no surprise that Cedar Ridge distillery, located in the heart of the corn belt in Iowa, makes great bourbon. The dramatic temperature swings of the Great Plains help create whiskies with a soft, clean, yet spicy character. This is Lost Lantern’s second bourbon from the family-owned distillery. Made from 74% corn, 14% rye, and 12% malted barley, this straight bourbon whiskey was aged for 5 years, giving it great depth and complexity. It has white flowers and vanilla on the nose, a complex palate with white chocolate and baking spice, and a very long finish.

2022 Single Cask #14: Cedar Ridge Iowa 6-Year-Old Straight Malted Rye Whiskey

(211 btls | 120.3 Proof): SRP, $90

Cedar Ridge is one of the few distilleries to regularly distill malted rye whiskey, which is made with germinated rye grain. This 6-year-old single cask, made with 51% malted rye, 34% rye, 12% corn, and 3% malted barley, shows why the style is worth your attention. It has a citrusy nose, with lemon, custard, and a rich depth on the palate. The malted rye grain adds a complex, biscuity and toasty flavor and a great mouthfeel.

2022 Single Cask #15: Copperworks Distilling Washington Single Malt (Single Farm, Single Variety)

(225 btls | 116.9 Proof): SRP, $100

Founded by brewers, Copperworks brings craft beer’s precision and commitment to local ingredients to distilling. The Seattle distillery works closely with local farms to source its grain, leading to whiskies that truly reflect the climate of the Pacific Northwest. This single malt was made from a single variety of barley called Baronesse, grown on a single farm, the family-owned Joseph’s Grainery in Colfax, WA. Aged for 3 years in a new oak cask, it has vanilla and white pepper on the nose and lavender, oak and saltwater taffy on the palate.

2022 Single Cask #16: Breuckelen Distilling 8-Year-Old New York Malted Wheat Whiskey

(165 btls | 138.9 Proof): SRP, $120

Founded in 2010 in Brooklyn, Breuckelen Distilling has been making unique and delicious whiskies that push the boundaries of traditional whiskey styles since its inception. Wheat whiskies are generally known for being gentle and light. Not this one. Made with 100% malted red wheat, this eight-year-old single cask has a deep, rich, and powerful flavor but a soft texture, with notes of rich oak, chocolate banana bread, cranberry teacake, and ginger spice. This is the oldest single cask Lost Lantern has released to date.
