Bimber Distillery reveals The Spirit of the Underground Release No.4 – English Whisky News

Bimber Distillery reveals The Spirit of the Underground Release No.4

London’s Bimber Distillery today announced the launch of the fourth release of its well-regarded The Spirit of the Underground Collection, produced in conjunction with Transport for London (TfL).

Release No.4 showcases four new stations: Covent Garden, Green Park, Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus – each featuring stunning iconography presenting unique pieces of London’s history, and adorned with striking labels and packaging design that observes the significance of each station’s location. The collection also complements TfL’s celebrations of the 160th anniversary of the opening of the Tube this month.

In contrast to the fortified wine finishes of Release No.3, the latest editions all focus on full-term maturations. Drawing from the distillery’s finest casks, they present the distinctiveness of Bimber’s spirit alongside an intensity that has been derived from impactfully active maturations within each cask. Each is bottled at natural cask strength and without filtration:

Covent Garden – fully matured in oloroso sherry, 59.2% abv, 321 bottles

Green Park – fully matured in moscatel sherry, 59.4% abv, 285 bottles

Leicester Square – fully matured in virgin American oak, 60.3% abv, 271 bottles

Piccadilly Circus – fully matured in Pedro Ximenez sherry, 62.1%, 314 bottles

The Collection, which will total 44 individual releases, features a selection of iconic single malt whiskies that celebrate the heritage and diversity of the distillery’s home city. With stunning individual designs, each bottle presents a different Tube station on the London Underground network – the oldest underground passenger railway service in the world. The Tube opened on 10 January 1863, with services running on the then named Metropolitan Railway from Baker Street to Paddington.

Release No.4 of The Spirit of the Underground Collection will be available directly from Bimber’s Spirit of the Underground website from Monday 23rd January till Friday 27th January via a ballot, and with an RRP of £125 per bottle.

Speaking of the launch of  the fourth release of the Collection, Matt McKay Bimber’s Director of Marketing and Communications said: “We’re delighted to unveil the next release in The Spirit of the Underground Collection. For Release no.4, we’ve aligned the four single cask whiskies with four iconic Underground stations which all sit alongside each other on London’s Piccadilly line – the adjacency reflecting the full-term maturation and shared intensities that these exceptional casks all showcase. ”

Ellen Sankey, Brand Licensing Manager at TfL, said: “We are delighted to once again see Bimber Distillery use our unique brand and heritage in such a creative way, especially as we celebrate the 160th anniversary of London’s first Tube service this January. Collaborations like this show just how innovatively our designs can be used to bring new ideas and our history together for customers across the world.”

All the expressions in The Spirit of the Underground Collection were crafted to Bimber’s exacting standards. The spirit was produced from the distillery’s single farm barley and malted on a dedicated floor at Warminster Maltings before being fermented for seven days in bespoke, on-site constructed American oak washbacks. Distillation took place in Bimber’s customised stills which possess an increased copper surface area, which results in a rich fruit-forward, layered spirit.

About GlenWyvis Distillery

Nestled beneath the sprawling mass of Ben Wyvis in the Scottish Highlands, GlenWyvis Distillery was established in 2015. The idea was to unite the community of Dingwall through the creation of a distillery principally owned by local people.

Dingwall’s last whisky distillery closed in 1926. After a 90-year absence, GlenWyvis Distillery revived the town’s lost distilling tradition, and made its own history in 2016 by running a record-breaking open share offer. More than 3,000 like-minded people invested in GlenWyvis to create the first ever 100% community-owned distillery.

C.1832 Scottish Distillery Maps For Sale At Mark Littler Ltd – Scotch Whisky News

C.1832 Scottish Distillery Maps For Sale At Mark Littler Ltd

The distillery maps have been digitally restored to create high-quality framed prints.

The first historical mention of whisky distillation in Scotland dates back to 1494 in the Scottish Exchequer Rolls in which there is a mention of “eight bolls of malt to Friar John Cor wherewith to make aquavitae”, aquavitae being a latin term meaning ‘water of life’. The term ‘uisge beatha’ was often used in Gaelic.

Since this historic document was created, distilleries have sprung up, been mothballed, been demolished, and endured throughout Scotland’s history. Today there are over 140 distilleries in Scotland, some of which are shown in this digitally restored map of Argyllshire, originally made in 1832.

The maps are reproduced from the Atlas of Scotland maps, published in 1832 by cartographer, publisher, and bookbinder John Thomson. The maps were originally hand drawn by William Johnson and engraved by John & George Menzies. On the map such landmarks as the Isle of Mull, Islay, and Campbeltown.

Overlaid onto the maps are icons representing the currently active distilleries in Argyllshire, including Lagavulin, Bowmore, Oban, Laphroaig, Bruichladdich, Kilchoman, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain, Lagg, Ncn’ean, Jura, Ardnamurchan, Port Ellen, Lochranza, Lagg, Springbank, Glen Scotia, Glengyle, and Ardbeg. In the bottom left-hand corner of the map, a street view of Campbeltown can be seen. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than 30 operational distilleries. However, many of these distilleries fell foul of the 1980s whisky loch. Today, there are only 3 left: Springbank, Glengyle, and Glen Scotia.

These historic maps are the perfect gift for any whisky lover – an authentic, yet modernised, map of Scotland’s whisky-distilling west coast.

The prints are produced in Lancashire, England, printed via fine art Giclee techniques, mounted on an acid-free backing board and presented in solid wood frames.

The prints are available in three sizes at three different price points:

JACK DANIEL’S LAUNCHES FIRST SUPER PREMIUM LINE EXTENSION IN 25 YEARS, JACK DANIEL’S BONDED AND JACK DANIEL’S TRIPLE MASH

Jack Daniel’s Launches First Super Premium Line Extension in 25 Years, Jack Daniel’s Bonded and Jack Daniel’s Triple Mash

Jack Daniel’s two new Bottled-In-Bond whiskeys premiere as first two permanent expressions in the brand’s new Bonded Series

Lynchburg, Tennessee (May 3, 2022) – The Jack Daniel Distillery introduces Jack Daniel’s Bonded Tennessee Whiskey and Jack Daniel’s Triple Mash Blended Straight Whiskey as the first two permanent expressions in the brand’s new Bonded Series. The Bonded Series honors the whiskey making excellence of the iconic Jack Daniel Distillery and will be a permanent extension in the Jack Daniel’s Family of Brands.

Both Jack Daniel’s Bonded and Triple Mash are Bottled-in-Bond at 100 proof (50% abv), with packaging inspired by the original design of the 1895 Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey bottle. As stipulated by the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897, a bonded whiskey must be distilled by a single distiller during a single season, matured in a government bonded warehouse for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof.

“The Jack Daniel Distillery has been making exceptional American whiskey to the highest standards for generations, before and after the Bottled in Bond Act, dating back to the days of Mr. Jack himself,” said Chris Fletcher, Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller. “Jack Daniel’s Bonded and Triple Mash are a nod to our heritage with a touch of innovation and craftsmanship. These whiskeys are another opportunity for both our friends and new drinkers to explore and discover everything Jack Daniel’s has to offer.”

Jack Daniel’s Bonded Tennessee Whiskey

Jack Daniel’s Bonded is Jack’s time-honored recipe of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye. Barrels were hand selected for their unique and particular characteristics of deeper color, flavor, and aroma, which bring a darker, richer, and more oak-forward character to Jack Daniel’s Bonded. It is a big, bold Tennessee Whiskey at 100 proof with layered notes of caramel, rich oak, and spice giving way to a pleasantly lingering finish.

Jack Daniel’s Triple Mash Blended Straight Whiskey

Jack Daniel’s Triple Mash is a blend of three straight Bottled-In-Bond whiskeys – 60% Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye, 20% Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and 20% Jack Daniel’s American Malt. Each expression is distilled in Lynchburg, Tennessee, in the same distilling season, aged to the stipulations of the Bottled in Bond Act, then blended and bottled at 100 proof. It’s a remarkable whiskey that can only be crafted by a complete distillery like Jack Daniel’s. Jack Daniel’s Triple Mash has pleasant notes of honey, malt, and soft oak leading to a long lasting well-rounded finish.

Jack Daniel’s Bonded and Triple Mash will be available across the US beginning in May with international markets to follow later in 2022. It will initially be available in 700mL bottles for suggested retail prices of $29.99 and $32.99 respectively. They will be available for pre-sale through ReserveBar beginning May 3, 2022 including a limited edition Jack Daniel’s gift item while supplies last.

Kentucky Distillers’ Association Welcomes Fresh Bourbon Distillery as Newest Craft Member – Kentucky Whiskey News

KENTUCKY DISTILLERS’ ASSOCIATION WELCOMES

FRESH BOURBON DISTILLERY AS NEWEST CRAFT MEMBER

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Distillers’ Association today announced that Fresh Bourbon Distillery in downtown Lexington is the newest member of the non-profit trade group that unites and leads Kentucky’s signature Bourbon and distilled spirits industry.

Founded by Sean and Tia Edwards in 2017, Fresh launched its first Bourbon in 2020 in partnership with Hartfield & Co. Distillery in Bourbon County. Fresh opened a boutique distillery, tasting room and cocktail experience at 377 East Main Street in Lexington earlier this year.

“We’re thrilled and honored to be accepted to join the prestigious collection of distilleries in the KDA,” Sean Edwards said. “Since we started our journey to produce a new Bourbon brand, we’ve been amazed and humbled by the support of people all across the industry who have helped us through numerous challenges.”

Tia Edwards said, “Becoming a KDA member is a milestone achievement and marks the beginning of the next chapter for us. We’re delighted to be participants in this community, and we look forward to an expanded role in giving back and helping support the Kentucky Bourbon industry as a whole.”

A Class B distiller, Fresh Bourbon is a Craft-level member at KDA, aging less than 10,000 barrels a year, and joins an impressive list of distilleries in Fayette County, including Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co., Bluegrass Distillers, James E. Pepper Distillery, RD1 Distillery and Barrel House Distilling Co.

“Sean and Tia have poured their hearts into developing a contemporary concept built on Kentucky’s rich Bourbon heritage,” Gregory said. “We are inspired by their passion, vision and commitment, and proudly welcome them to the KDA and our family of Kentucky’s finest distillers.”

Fresh Bourbon uses a unique four-grain recipe in its flagship brand incorporating honey malt, a rarely used grain in distilling which produces a distinctive sweet and floral character. Sean Edwards said he anticipates releasing single barrel expressions and new products over the next several years.

Fresh also is now eligible to apply to join the KDA’s Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour®, which the association created in 2012 as the nation’s first and only tourism attraction to showcase the flourishing artisan distilling movement.

Founded in 1880, the KDA is the voice for Bourbon and spirits issues. Its diverse membership produces the overwhelming majority of the world’s Bourbon, from legendary, global brands to emerging micro distilleries that are building the next generation of the timeless craft.

Bourbon is one of Kentucky’s most treasured industries, a booming $9 billion economic and tourism engine that sustains more than 22,500 jobs with an annual payroll topping $1.23 billion each year, and pays over $285 million in local and state taxes and $1.8 billion in federal alcohol taxes, more than any other state.

A key export, distilling has the state’s highest job spin-off factor among top manufacturers; buys at least 17 million bushels of corn and other grains every year, mostly from Kentucky farm families; and is currently investing more than $5.2 billion in new stills, warehouses, bottling lines, tourism experiences and more.

Bourbon production has skyrocketed more than 475% since the turn of the century.

Kentucky now boasts more than 11.4 million barrels of Bourbon aging in warehouses across the Bluegrass, the most in its revered distilling history. Distillers filled more than 2.6 million barrels in 2021 alone, the fourth consecutive year that production topped 2 million.

Attendance at the KDA’s Kentucky Bourbon Trail® and Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour® distilleries has surged more than 300% in the last 10 years. Total attendance in 2021 was more than 1.5 million visits, just below the pre-COVID record of 1.7 million visits in 2019.

Lynchburg, Tennessee – For the first time in its storied history, the Jack Daniel Distillery is introducing a 100% malted barley grain bill with the new Jack Daniel’s Twice Barreled Special Release American Single Malt Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks. The 2022 limited edition Special Release features American Single Malt Whiskey twice barreled and bottled straight from sherry casks at 105.7 – 107.8 proof.

Jack Daniel’s Twice Barreled Special Release American Single Malt begins with 100% malted barley that is ground, fermented and distilled in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The auction also earned a gold-level honor in the community support and engagement category at the KTIA’s annual Traverse Awards for Excellence in Kentucky Tourism, which are judged by out-of-state tourism leaders.

Mandy Ryan, director of the KDA’s Kentucky Bourbon Trail® experiences, said the non-profit group is humbled to receive the recognition. Founded in 1880, the KDA promotes, protects and enhances the Commonwealth’s signature Bourbon and distilled spirits industry.

“It was amazing to see first-hand how our member distillers stepped up and helped fellow Kentuckians in times of need,” Ryan said. “It is our duty as a signature industry and as a tourism attraction that gives back to the community.”

KTIA President & CEO Hank Phillips said this year’s Traverse Awards were marked by comments from the judges about the exceptional quality of entries across the board. Tourism is an $8 billion industry in Kentucky.

“As tourism in Kentucky continues its recovery, it is apparent that the industry is stepping up with creative and results oriented strategies for capturing prospective visitors’ attention and ultimately their decisions to visit the Commonwealth,” Phillips said.

The awards were presented during the 2022 Kentucky Travel Industry Annual Conference, held Nov. 9-11 at the Griffin Gate Marriott Golf Resort & Spa in Lexington. To see all winners, click here.

Kentucky travel and tourism businesses and marketing organizations vie for Traverse Awards in 11 categories. The Traverse Awards are judged by a panel of out-of-state travel and tourism industry experts.

Only five of 160 entries received the “Award of Distinction.” Only three achieved gold-level status in the community support and engagement category. Award criteria include concept, creativity, results and impact.

ABOUT THE KENTUCKY BOURBON BENEFIT

In December 2021, a rare band of winter tornadoes ripped through Western Kentucky, decimating communities in 11 counties, causing over $3.5 billion in damages and killing more than 50 Kentuckians.

The KDA immediately partnered with the Bourbon Crusaders charitable organization, Bourbon curator Fred Minnick and retailer Westport Whiskey & Wine on a six-day auction of rare bottles, private barrel selections, exclusive experiences and more to raise funds for the rebuilding effort.

A total of 5,158 bidders vied for the benefit auction’s 429 lots. Bidders came from all 50 states, Washington D.C. and as far away as Puerto Rico and Guam. Kentucky, by far, led the way with nearly 1,000 registered bidders.

The goal was to raise $1 million. All told, the fundraiser raised $3.4 million to the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund, which Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said was the largest single donation to the effort.

The KDA and its partners held a similar auction in August 2022 and raised nearly $1.5 million for flood relief in Eastern Kentucky. More than 10 inches of rain fell across the area in five days, causing catastrophic damage and killing more than 40 Kentuckians.

ABOUT KENTUCKY TRAVEL INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION

The Kentucky Travel Industry Association (KTIA) represents and serves all segments of Kentucky’s tourism industry, which despite the pandemic’s severe impact, contributed $11.2 billion to Kentucky’s economy in 2021. The nearly 1000-member association engages in advocacy and provides its members with education, information and business development opportunities. The association also works to inform the public of the enormous economic, employment and tax revenue contributions tourism makes to the people of Kentucky.

ABOUT KENTUCKY DISTILLERS’ ASSOCIATION

Founded in 1880, the KDA is the voice for Bourbon and spirits issues. Its diverse membership produces the overwhelming majority of the world’s Bourbon, from legendary, global brands to emerging micro distilleries that are building the next generation of the timeless craft.

Kentucky Bourbon is one of the Commonwealth’s most historic industries, a thriving $9 billion economic and tourism engine that sustains more than 22,500 jobs with a payroll topping $1.23 billion each year.

A key export, the iconic industry is currently in the middle of a $5.2 billion building boom, from innovative new tourism experiences to expanded production facilities, bottling centers and aging warehouses, all to meet the growing global thirst for Kentucky Bourbon.

Bourbon production has skyrocketed more than 475% since the turn of the century.

Kentucky now boasts more than 11.4 million barrels of Bourbon aging in warehouses across the Bluegrass, the most in its revered distilling history. Distillers filled more than 2.6 million barrels last year alone, the fourth year in a row that production topped the 2 million mark.

The KDA recently announced 2022 is on track for the highest visitation year in the KBT’s history. Due to the rise in Bourbon tourism and a growing demand for authentic curated experiences, many of Kentucky’s distilleries are asking visitors to book their tours in advance.

To support their efforts and ensure whiskey lovers from around the world can fully immerse themselves in all that Kentucky’s distilleries offer, the KDA launched a campaign asking people to “Book Now, Bourbon Later.” Click here to read more.

The Kentucky Distillers’ Association is a 501(c)(6) non-profit trade association that passionately unites, promotes, protects and elevates the Commonwealth’s signature Bourbon and distilled spirits industry. BACARDI-OWNED AULTMORE DISTILLERY CELEBRATES 125TH ANNIVERSARY WITH £15M EXPANSION PLAN – Scotch Whisky News

BACARDI-OWNED AULTMORE DISTILLERY CELEBRATES 125TH ANNIVERSARY WITH £15M EXPANSION PLAN

As the popularity of premium Scotch whiskies sees worldwide demand increase, Bacardi-owned Aultmore Distillery in Scotland has announced a £15m expansion plan, set to double its production capacity by spring 2024.

The expansion works include the addition of fermenters, pot-stills and infrastructure, and will also see a new heat-recovering system installed which will reduce the distillery’s energy usage and carbon footprint.

The announcement comes as the distillery marks 125 years since it first went into production in 1897. Founded by local businessman and philanthropist, Alexander Edward, Aultmore Distillery produces well-loved single malt whisky, AULTMORE®, an award-winning brand that is now sold around the world.

Aultmore Distillery has a long history and association with quality spirit, and the success of our single malt is a testament to those past and present who have played their part in crafting it. As we get started on our exciting expansion plans to increase production, it’s an honour for those of us here today to play an integral part in the future of this beautiful whisky.”

Ross Bremner, Distillery Manager, Aultmore Distillery

The Bacardi portfolio of single malt whiskies, which includes AULTMORE, ABERFELDY®, ROYAL BRACKLA®, THE DEVERON® and CRAIGELLACHIE® is particularly popular in Asia, where it has grown 30% over the last five years*.

The Scotch whisky distillery has been part of Bacardi for almost 25 years. A family-owned spirits company with more than 160 years of history, Bacardi operates five distilleries across Scotland – Aultmore, Aberfeldy, Royal Brackla, Craigellachie, and Macduff – producing DEWAR’S® and WILLIAM LAWSON’S® Blended Scotch whiskies, alongside its five Single Malts. The company nurtures and respects the heritage of each, to produce top quality drinks which are rooted in the traditions of the local areas.

We have an incredibly skilled and innovative team here in Scotland and we are so proud of the success of the whisky portfolio we produce. As more and more people around the world discover and fall in love with these drinks, we are investing in their growth for the long-term.”
