GlenAllachie Cask Strength Offer – Tyndrum Whisky News

GlenAllachie Cask Strength

“Every batch GlenAllachie create of their 10 year old Cask Strength, it represents the direction in which they are taking The GlenAllachie” says Master Distiller, Billy Walker. The ninth iteration of the coveted decade old batch release is no different, showcasing the richness and complexities of our honeyed spirit after maturation in the finest oak.

Guided by 50 years of experience and fuelled by his passion for wood management, Billy crafted Batch 9 with perfection in mind. A marriage of spirit from Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry casks, along with Rioja barriques and medium charred/medium toasted American Virgin Oak barrels, this mahogany malt sits proudly alongside its predecessors. Delivering classic Sherried notes of indulgent dark chocolate and dried fruits, coupled with sweet spices and red berries, this prized release is presented at natural cask strength of 58.1%.

Colour: Intense Mahogany.
Nose: Bursting with ripe red berries, hazelnuts and heather honey, with hints of orchard fruits, cinnamon spice and gingersnaps.
Taste: Lashings of dark chocolate, honeycomb and caramelised demerara sugar, followed by notes of treacle, mocha and ginger, with plum and toffee on the finish.

A Busy Summer – Shelter Point Distillery Update – Canadian Whisky News

Greetings from Shelter Point!

We have been having a busy summer so far, hot on the heels of our 10 Year Old release, we are very excited that the next release of our Evans Family Reserve is now available in our store.

The Caribbean Rum Cask Finish is an absolute beauty. We have been finishing some of our single malt in casks from rum distilleries in Barbados and Martinique. The molasses based rum from Barbados brings a deep richness to the whisky which provides a delightful counterpoint to the light floral notes brought from the sugar cane based rum from Martinique. The combination of these in one bottle results in a spectacular malt.

Tasting Notes:

Honeyed with hints of pear and banana on the nose. The palate is sweet vanilla, caramelised sugar with apples and subtle oak tannins. Exceptionally smooth and well rounded the finish is full of butterscotch, toffee and ginger spice.

The Evans Family is available now in our retail store and online here.

10 Year Old Single Malt

The release of our 10 Year Old has been very successful. It seems that most of the BC Liquor Stores that received bottles sold out almost immediately, the stock that we have here in our retail store has almost sold out as well!  A select group of liquor stores have been allocated some of this release as well. They will start to receive their allocations soon, once we know that these deliveries have been made we will provide you with a list.

Cocktail Idea:

We have been exploring the possibilities of using our single malts in cocktails, and have really enjoyed sharing our Whole Point and Ripple Rock Smash cocktails with people. We were delighted when BC Liquor released this video which showcased our Single Malt in their ‘Coastal Collins” recipe.

Coastal Collins – A single malt whisky cocktail, perfect for the warm summer months.

The Coastal Collins highlights the characteristics of the spirit. Complimented with a little sea salted honey cordial, and fresh ginger then finished with soda and a lemon twist. The overall profile will be both savoury and fresh, perfect for seaside sipping!

Want to make the Coastal Collins? Here’s the ingredients:

2 coins fresh ginger (about 1-in/ 2.5 cm each), peeled and sliced
1½ oz (45 ml) Shelter Point Single Malt Whisky
½ oz (15 ml) Sea Salt Honey Syrup*
¾ oz (22 ml) lemon juice
2 oz (60 ml) soda water
1 lemon peel, for garnish

*To make Sea Salt Honey Syrup, in a small bowl, combine ⅓ cup (80 ml) boiled water, ⅔ cup (160 ml) honey and ½ tsp (2.5 ml) sea salt. Stir to mix then transfer to a sealed container and store in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Makes 1 cup (250 ml).

We hope you enjoy this recipe, it’s a fantastic way to end a hot day!

Cheers,
Chris

The Harris Journal: More News From The Island – Scotch Whisky News

Rain, shine, rain, shine…if you’re visiting our island this summer be sure to pack for every season as the long stretch of sunny weather is now tussling with torrential rain every ten minutes.

But, that’s the beauty of island life, there’s never a dull day, even on the dullest of summer days…

Here at the distillery our tours are in full swing and there’s a steady stream of visitors coming through our doors.

From cyclists and hikers to car drivers and campervanners – the island roads are a wee bit busier than usual, but polite waves and passing place etiquette ensure that rural road rage is never a thing.

Behind the scenes we’re busy filling bottles of our forthcoming single malt whisky by hand.

Each one is being carefully filled with this most historic of island drams, before being labelled and finally sealed.

It’s an exciting time, and we’re looking forward to revealing and raising a glass of The Hearach with you all this coming September.

Until then, we’ve enough Isle of Harris Gin flowing to keep you island spirits high.

Slaìnte to the coming weekend with best wishes from all the team here in Tarbert!

Le gach deagh dhùrachd,
Mike Donald, Chief Storyteller

Our first historic whisky is woven from the hands of island people and the place we call home, intimately intertwining to produce a spirit of great complexity and character.

Our close-knit community’s culture of gaelic language, storytelling, and song has long bound the Hearaich together, not only to each other, but to the elemental island around us.

This special connection between people and place continues to this day with every drop of The Hearach created by Isle of Harris hands here in the Outer Hebrides.

Be here at 13.00 BST on 22nd September 2023 to livestream ‘The First Dram’.

Join us online or in Tarbert at 10.00 BST on 23rd September 2023 to buy ‘The First Release’ in the UK.

The Hearach is the first, historic single malt whisky from the our small island sat off the far-northwest coast of Scotland.

It is the result of a considered conversation between people and place, coming together to create a spirit of complexity and character.

The work of our island’s men and women intertwines with the natural world to weave together an outer hebridean whisky of distinction.

Every drop of this new dram is being distilled by local people to produce a special spirit which has been matured, married, and bottled here in this elemental place, and nowhere else.

Madeira Cask specialty 🍊🍯 – Wemyss Malts News

An exhibition of Madeira Mastery

Rich with the flavours of dried fruits, soft vanilla and warm wood spice, these special barrels contribute beautiful characteristics to our blended malt Scotch. A blend of fine single malts has been filled into hand-selected ex-Madeira wine casks to marry with the oak for a rich, warm finish. Each cask is imbued with character from years of holding Madeira wine under the intense sun of Portugal’s renowned wine-producing island. This blended malt scotch has shown to be very popular both as a dram and also as a highball. The succulent Mediterranean fruit notes coincide marvellously with the complex palate of saffron and smoky spices.

SOCIETY NEWSLETTER JULY 2023 – Scotch Whisky News

To join the Springbank Society contact them at society@springbank.scot

2023 SO FAR AT SPRINGBANK

As the first half of 2023 comes to an end we thought we would give our Society members an update on what has been happening at the distillery this year, what the team have been up to, and what to look out for in the remainder of the year.

MALTS FESTIVAL 2023

In May we hosted our Springbank Open Day as part of the 2023 Campbeltown Malts Festival, which brought whisky lovers from all over the world to the distillery to enjoy a wide selection of drams, unique tastings, demonstrations from our production team, and tours of the distillery among other events. Around 240 Society members joined the Springbank Sales Team in the Malt Barns for two blind tastings where we sampled core range Springbank with the twist of being matured fully in Bourbon casks.

We also released our annual Festival bottles, which this year consisted of a 24 year old Springbank matured in Sherry and Port, an 8 year old Longrow and a 14 year old Hazelburn, each matured in Sherry.

The dates for next year’s festival have now been confirmed as Tuesday 21st – Saturday 25th May. We hope to see you there!

SOCIETY ON TOUR

With Society members worldwide, the sales team have recently been globe-trotting in order to take the Springbank Society “on tour”. Since December, the team have hosted tastings in Frankfurt, Cologne, Vienna, Aberdeen, Hong Kong, Liverpool, Manchester and, last but not least, Campbeltown!

These tastings have been a great opportunity for us to connect with members and share some exciting drams. We hope that those of you who have attended one of these tastings enjoyed it as much as we did.

If you are interested in attending a Society tasting in your area, keep your eyes peeled for future tastings as the Society tour continues to make its way around the world. You will be contacted with details of tastings if/when they are planned in your area.

UPCOMING RELEASES & TASTING PACKS

In the latter half of 2023, we have some exciting limited releases to come such as the new Springbank 18 and 21 year olds, Longrow 21, the new Hazelburn Sherrywood, and the next edition of the Springbank Sherry series: Palo Cortado.

In our continued efforts to ensure that as many of you are able to sample these limited releases as possible at a time when it can be difficult to obtain bottles, we look forward to introducing tasting packs of limited releases later this year. These will be made available exclusively to Society members in the first instance, with the potential to be extended to non-members depending on demand. We trust that this will come as good news and will follow up with more information in due course.

DISTILLERY UPDATE

In our continuing transition from red diesel to liquified petroleum gas, six LPG tanks have been installed and hooked up to our boilers at Springbank and Glengyle, as well as to the kiln burner and wash still burner. We are hopeful that all works will be completed and up and running by the beginning of July. In another move towards becoming more environmentally friendly, we are looking into the possibility of installing Electric Vehicle Charging Points at the Distillery for visitor use.

We are on to the thirteenth term of our 2023 whisky school, which kicked off in February and will continue until the end of the Springbank production year. Hazelburn, Longrow, Local Barley and Springbank have all been produced this year so far, and the remaining production period will focus solely on Springbank.

We are in the initial planning phase for our new Bottling and Dispatch facility, which will be situated at Glengyle distillery but will accommodate bottling for the full J&A Mitchell range.

Once again, we have had barley sown this year at High Ranachan Farm which is based around 2 miles from the distillery. The variety this year is Westminster, which was last grown on behalf of the distillery in 2020 at High Ranachan and distilled with in 2021.
