Master Blender back in America – fancy a dram?

Miami! Boston! Old Saybrook! Providence! It’s quite the tour I’m on over the next few weeks in the USA – hopefully I’ll be able to meet up with a few of you for a dram…

My kilt’s getting a fair bit of exercise over the next few weeks, kicking off tonight (August 2nd) at Cork & Bottle Fine Wine and Spirits, 12180 SW 88th Street in Miami and then tomorrow (August 3rd) is all about Dalmore tasting at Town Kitchen and Bar

Orlando is next up on Wednesday with a teatime event at Lizzy McCormack’s, 55 North Orange Drive before heading back to Miami for an event at Shula’s Steakhouse, 6915 Red Road Coral Gables.

Sunday sees me heading over to Boston for an event on the Monday for a select group before I’m back in the thick of things on the Tuesday at Julio’s, 140 Turnpike Road, Westborough, MA.

Wednesday sees me lunching at The Grist Mill in Old Saybrook before taking parts in tastings at Amity Wine & Spirits, 95 Amity Road, New Haven, CT.

If it’s Thursday, it must be Providence (according to my timetable anyway!) with tastings at Agawam Hunt Club, Roger Williams Drive.

Friday sees the final fling for the kilt (this time round) at Fat Belly’s, Providence, RI

Of course, I’ve got some free time, so is there anyone I should pop in to see like I did a few years ago with Twitter?

KNOW A FAMOUS PUB? THEN GET VOTING IN FAMOUS PUBS CAMPAIGN

and be in with a chance to win a trip for two to the Scottish Highlands

We have just launched a campaign to find pubs throughout the UK that are famous for a reason, just like The Famous Grouse. You may remember last year’s campaign was a huge success, finding some fantastic pubs with great stories to tell and this year we want more.

We are asking landlords and pub goers from around the UK to share with us and the nation what makes their pub famous. It could be a quirky history, a famous punter, a local legend or a fascinating fact. Everyone who nominates will be entered into a prize draw to win a trip for two to the Scottish Highlands with a tour of The Famous Grouse Experience.

WhiskyCast Publishes EPISODE 327 – Scotch Whisky News

whiskycast-ii4

As the U.S. faces another debt crisis, this week marks the anniversary of a key event in another U.S. debt crisis…the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. On August 1, 1794, 7,000 Americans gathered at Braddock’s Field in Western Pennsylvania to protest President Washington’s tax on whiskey production. The protest led to a declaration of insurrection, and Washington led an army into the area to quash the rebellion. Dr. Dennis Pogue of Mount Vernon explains the history of the Whiskey Rebellion in this episode. In the news, Glen Moray has its first new single malt release under new ownership, Crown Royal lends its name to NASCAR’s Brickyard 400, and much more!

The Whisky Shop UK Stocks Glenmorangie Pride 1981 – Scotch Whisky News

the-whisky-shop2

Glenmorangie Pride Now In Stock

Glenmorangie Pride 1981 whisky is the culmination of 28 years of passion, patience and artistry. At its heart is the remarkable Glenmorangie 1981 Vintage, which was aged for 18 years in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels. The whisky was then extra-matured exclusively in Chateau d’Yquem Sauternes casks for an additional 10 years before being bottled at 56.7% ABV. The whisky is presented in a striking Baccarat crystal decanter and wooden case.

1 of only 1000 bottles.

Colour: Intense, deepest gold.

Nose: A captivating and heady aromatic scent, reminiscent of a display of scrumptious desserts; poached pears with lashings of vanilla cream, baked pineapple sponge pudding dusted with toasted coconut, apple tart with sprinklings of Demerara sugar, nutmeg and aniseed. Alongside the desserts, the beguiling musky scent of antique oak furniture brings a mesmerizing depth and complexity. Addition of water releases a myriad of exotic fruits and spices; sherbet lemons, melon, kiwi and pineapple, infused with ginger and cloves and softened with layers of creamy vanilla, honeycomb and toffee. Base notes of vetiver, liquorice and roast chestnut linger in the background.

Taste: Exceptionally generous and chewy with intense layers of delicious desserts: syrup sponge pudding covered in milk chocolate sauce, honeydew melon and lemon vanilla madeleines burst on the palate. A strong backbone of oak tannins is present, bringing hints of French toast, and the impression of steely mineral notes.

Finish: Long, succulent and sweet with sultanas, toasted almonds and the lingering memory of lemon and coconut desserts.

A trip to Balblair

The lovely folk of Inver House Distillers (the Scottish production wing of International Beverages) recently invited me along to a trip around four of their distilleries with a bunch of international bloggers. Not being one to turn down distillery tours, especially those conducted by distillery managers, I said yes and spent a couple of hectic …(please click on the link below to read the remainder of the article) …
