Have a look around Shackleton’s Hut
The fine folks at Google like to play around with shiny things and one of their many obsessions over the last year has been Antarctica. They added streetview to selected areas of the big icy continent and have followed it … Continue reading >>
Our website is ‘down’ but the booze goes on at Park Ave Liquor Shop.
Cheers to your summer!
As you may or may not know, our store’s website has been “down”. The site crashed “in spectacular fashion” a few weeks ago and we have been working non-stop to get it repaired and running again. Needless to say, it hasn’t happened nearly as quickly as we had hoped but we need our customers to know that we are still here and bringing in more exciting bottles every day.
When the site is fully functional again we will be sure to make an announcement. Until then, we thought we’d let you know about some newly arrived Scotches and Bourbons at Park Ave. At the present time they cannot be ordered from our site but If you see something you like we are here to help you with the purchase of items featured below or any item we stock.
In recognition of your patience in waiting for the site to come back online. We are offering a 10% discount on the items listed in this email. Just mention this email/article and we will take 10% off the bottle. This offer will last only through July 31st (or as long as our inventory of these bottles last).
We apologize for the inconvenience of our site’s current unavailability. Please feel free to call or email us with any questions or concerns.
Cheers!

New Arrivals at Park Avenue.
We’ve recently been lucky enough to take on some great new Single Malt bottlings from private bottler, Chieftain’s.
Quick history: “Since 1936, Ian Macleod Distillers, through its dedication to tradition and quality, has amassed an unrivaled cask stock from Scotland’s many distilleries. This enviable collection includes extremely rare malts, some from closed or mothballed distilleries. The Chieftain’s collection hallmark is that each bottling must be fit for a King, a Leader or in the Celtic world, a Chieftain.”

Willett – Single Barrel Cask #2504, 9 Year Old
Aged in White Oak. Only 164 bottles made.
113.2 Proof
Here is what Whisky Advocate’s John Hansell had to say:
“Very graceful, with a nice balance of youth and maturity. Gently sweet notes of toffee, fig, nougat and maple syrup spiked with cinnamon and vanilla. Dark berried fruit and a hint of coconut round out the palate. Perilously more-ish bourbon with a very easy going demeanor.”
Our Price: $65
Glen Garioch, 1998 Single Cask #986, 13 Year Old
Aged in a Bourbon Cask. Only 195 bottles made.
110 Proof, Non chill filtered
Here is what Whisky Advocate’s John Hansell had to say: “A lovely example of what not chill-filtering can do for a whisky. Meticulous cask selection also helps play a part here. Very straight forward on the surface (no surprises), but with vibrant, well-defined flavors and a comforting creamy texture on the palate. Bright fruit defines this whisky (lime, kiwi, ripe melon, sultana, fresh peach), accompanied by honeyed malt, heather and a hint of spice and smoke. A fun whisky, suitable for many moods and occasions.”
Our Price: $100
Glen Ord 1998, 14 Year Old. Bottled by Classic Cask
Aged in Oak Hogshead. Only 345 bottles made
86 Proof
Our notes recall a nose of pronounced butter, heather and tropical fruit salad consisting of oranges, coconuts and bananas. It dives into the palate with sweet figs, mixed nuts and transforms into a vanilla filled finish that stays with you for awhile.
Our Price: $70
Please note: Our exclusivity on this bottle is only for NYC.
Noteworthy New Arrivals
Here are a couple of our favorite new bottles at the Park Avenue Liquor Shop.
High West: Campfire
The concept for Campfire was born after a visit to Bruichladdich’s B&B that featured a memorable dessert of melon drizzled with peated whisky and sugar. High West’s interpretation was, ‘Why not mix a sweet bourbon and peat?” While the proportions are Top Secret – We can tell you that the main flavor (or melody) is sweet honey from a ripe bourbon. The enhancing flavor (or harmony) is floral fruity spice from a mature rye whiskey. The result is nothing short spectacular. Perfect for your next S’mores making session.
Our Price: $58
Widow Jane: 5 Year Old Kentucky Bourbon
(with an assist from New York)
Inventor, aerospace engineer and founder of Cacao Prieto, Daniel Prieto Preston has expanded his portfolio to include Cacao Prieto’s “Widow Jane” Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey. Cacao Prieto hand selected a barrel of five year old Kentucky Bourbon (rumored to be Buffalo Trace), which was transported to their Brooklyn distillery and cut to proof with pure limestone mineral rich water from the Widow Jane Mine in Rosendale, New York. Bold, complex aromas of spiced fruit, vanilla, cinnamon, caramel and toffee carry through to the palate where they merge with notes of citrus fruit, spicy oak and earthy mineral on the long finish. Only 823 bottles of this limited edition bourbon were produced, each are hand numbered and labeled with the bottling date.
Our Price: $45
We are not responsible for typographical errors. Due to ever-changing inventory, we cannot guarantee bottle availability (especially on the Rosebank). The 10% discount offer on this email’s offering is available only through July 31st.

Glenmorangie Artein is the third and most spectacular whisky created for the Glenmorangie Private Edition limited release whiskies.
Artein (Gaelic for “stone”) is a rare expression, extra matured in remarkable Super Tuscan wine casks to add depth and fruitiness.
This is an intriguingly fragrant whisky with classic citrus and vanilla notes with added layers of cassis, red fruits, honeysuckle and fresh mint.

www.ralfy.com does it again, (whisky reviews to be specific) with Whisky Review 289 – Old Parr 12yo Scotch…. decent blended Scotch.
Something a little different..
There is no question that our chief distiller has the best nose and palate around when it comes to our whisky. So we have given him free reign to create his own single malt. The result is pictured “Distiller’s Elect”. He cannot be blamed for the name – that was my idea. This is a stunning whisky – however there is a catch… It is only available to purchase from the distillery; it is not available on line, on the telephone or in any other outlet. It is limited to one bottle per person. Visit the distillery and you can buy a bottle, if you want 2 bottles then bring a non whisky drinking friend – I’m sure you get the idea. The whisky will sell for £44.95 and will be worth every penny. This particular batch is limited to 960 bottles.
Advance warning
Keep an eye out for the next newsletter… We are in the process of creating a very limited bottling run of whisky to commemorate the year of 2012 and what an amazing year for England it has been. There will only be 366 bottles (one for each day of the year) in total, each one an individually engraved decanteur. We are not taking orders pre-release but will send you a newsletter the instant it becomes available.
