Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, was able to secure his bottle of the much coveted Ardbog, this year’s release for Ardbeg Day. This is a peaty Ileach that matured for 10 years in American White Oak and Manzanilla sherry casks. And to be honest…it’s a good one!

Kilchoman Launch New Loch Gorm (in the USA) – Scotch Whisky News

Kilchoman Launch New Loch Gorm

ImpEx Beverages, Inc. is glad to let you know that Kilchoman have announced the launch of an entirely new range called Loch Gorm. Named after a famously peaty loch at the end of the Kilchoman drive, Loch Gorm will be the only fully ex-sherry cask matured release from Kilchoman.

As with the two other ranges in Kilchoman’s portfolio, Loch Gorm will be periodically re-released as a more mature version with each bottling differentiated by distillation and bottling years printed on the label.

This, the first release of Loch Gorm was matured in Oloroso sherry butts for over 5 years and finished in Oloroso sherry hogsheads for six weeks to give added depth of colour and character.

Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Managing Director “’previous sherry matured Kilchomans have been very popular with our customers and I’m sure this will be as equally well received. It shows wonderful balance between the peat smoke and spicy rich flavours typical of sherry cask maturation.”

Loch Gorm is bottled at 46% ABV and RRP is $ 89.99. This is a limited release of 10,000 bottles worldwide, only 200 cases are allocated for the US market.

Tasting Notes

• Nose: soft peaty aromas and a blend of soft fruits and spice
• Palate: an initial sweetness is followed by soft peat smoke, mixed fruits and spice
• Finish: a long clean finish with a depth of character and richness that belies its tender age

Make This the Best Father’s Day Ever with a Canadian Whisky Book – Canadian Whisky News

Make This the Best Father’s Day Ever with a Canadian Whisky Book

Apparently, people spend 33 per cent less for Father’s Day gifts than they do for Mother’s Day. And some people feel guilty about that.

Well, here’s a little secret. Dads appreciate just being remembered. More funky socks? Glow-in-the-dark ties? Car wash supplies? Yes! They all say, “You remembered.”

But if you want to make him extra happy why not combine the two things men most enjoy relaxing with – whisky and a book. This year give your dad a copy of Canadian Whisky: The Portable Expert.

Here he will learn the skills he needs to understand flavours and aromas. And just to be sure, tasting notes for more than 100 whiskies are included.

Along the way, he will hear compelling tales of the disasters, sudden triumphs and destructive family feuds that make up Canada’s colourful whisky lore.

It’s a revealing story of family dynasties, innovative science, fortunes made and lost, and sometimes brave and occasionally odd corporate strategies.

Yes, Dad is special. And once again this Father’s Day he’ll welcome more socks and ties. But why not give him something to enjoy at his leisure? And be prepared for the big grin that will spread over his face.

Canadian Whisky: The Portable Expert is available from book stores in Canada and the U.S., on the worldwide web from Amazon.com, and from Chapters.com for delivery in Canada.

New Spirit Arrivals June 2013: GlenDronach, Ardbog and More! – Whisky News

New Spirit Arrivals June 2013: GlenDronach, Ardbog and more!

We are pleased to highlight the range of whiskies from High West Distillery in Park City, Utah, the first legally licensed distillery in Utah since the end of the Prohibition. High West Distillery was named 2011 “Whiskey Pioneer of the Year” by Whiskey Advocate, America’s leading whiskey magazine.

This month also sees the eagerly awaited release of Ardbog from Ardbeg distillery, celebrated on Ardbog day on 1st June!

High West Campfire
Marriage of two straight rye whiskies that combines the feisty properties of a high rye 2-year-old and the saddle smooth richness of a 16-year-old. The 2-year-old has a 95% rye 5% barley malt mashbill. The older rye has a “barely legal” rye mashbill of 53% rye and 37% corn. The extra age and corn provides some extra sweetness to calm the “bite” of the younger rye for a relationship that works. £55.00

High West American Prairie Reserve
A blend of two whiskies: Whiskey #1: 6 year old Bourbon. Mashbill from 75% Corn, 20% rye, 5% barley malt. Whiskey #2: 10 year old Bourbon. Mashbill from 60% Corn, 35% rye, and 5% barley malt. £46.95

High West Rendezvous Rye Whiskey
Marriage of two straight rye whiskies: a straight 6-year-old with a mashbill containing 95% rye and 5% barley malt; a straight 16-year-old with a mashbill containing 80% rye, 10% corn, 10% barley malt. £55.00

Fettercairn Fasque
Founded by Sir Alexander Ramsey in 1824 on his family’s Fasque Estate, Fettercairn is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. This noble beast today adorns every bottle of the Fettercairn single malt whisky as a seal of the purity within.

Colour: Honey gold
Nose: Treacle toffee, spices and pear
Taste: Dark chocolate, coffee, cinnamon and nutmeg
Finish: Rich vanilla and citrus fruits
£49.95

Colonel Taylor Single Barrel Bourbon
This classic bourbon features a nose of lightly toasted oak with dried figs and butterscotch. Sweetness on the tongue remains perfectly balanced with tobacco and dark spices that finish just long enough to prepare the palette for another sip.
£88.95

Colonel Taylor Small Batch Bourbon
A smooth flavor of caramel corn sweetness is mingled with tones of butterscotch and licorice. The aftertaste is a soft mouth feel that turns into subtle spices of pepper and tobacco. £88.95

GlenDronach Cask Strength Batch 2
Wonderful rich aromas of honey drenched raisins and sultanas. Candied ginger and orange peel on the palate are spiced with a beautifully delicate back note of warm oak. Please email lee.tomlinson@milroys.co.uk to pre-register interest
