LAPHROAIG ANNOUNCES THE SEASONAL RETURN OF TRIPLE WOOD

World’s #1 Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Brings Back Popular Expression for 2013 Fall Season

Laphroaig®, the world’s #1 Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, proudly introduces its latest seasonal expression, Laphroaig® Triple Wood.

Just in time for fall, this limited edition whisky returns as a result of high demand from Friends of Laphroaig®, the brand’s distinguished loyalty group that gives members a lifetime lease on a numbered, one square foot plot of land in Islay, Scotland.

Laphroaig® Triple Wood goes through a distinct triple maturation process that includes ex-bourbon barrels, 19th Century-style quarter casks and specially selected European Oak oloroso sherry casks. This process creates a complex whisky that boasts a rich blend of creamy vanilla and hints of sweet fruit, while retaining the distinctive smoky peat flavor of Laphroaig®.

“We are thrilled that our Friends of Laphroaig® members are just as passionate about their Scotch as we are,” said John Campbell, Laphroaig® Master Distiller. “Triple Wood is the perfect seasonal expression for fall. Its bright gold color and bursts of peat, vanilla and fruit flavors embody the fall season and bring you back to Islay, the land that gives Laphroaig® its unique peaty notes.”

At 96 proof, Laphroaig® Triple Wood is best enjoyed neat, allowing the powerful, yet slightly creamy consistency of the whisky speak for itself. Laphroaig® Triple Wood is available for a limited time nationwide with a suggested retail price of $59.99 per 750ml bottle and joins the Laphroaig® portfolio of Scotch whiskies that includes Laphroaig® 10-Year-Old, 10-Year-Old Cask Strength, Quarter Cask, 18-Year-Old, 25- Year-Old, QA Cask and Càirdeas.

About Laphroaig®

Laphroaig® (La-‘froyg) literally means “the beautiful hollow by the broad bay.” Born from the streams and blue peat smoke of Islay, Laphroaig® is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky with a distinct taste and story in every bottle. The secret to Laphroaig® is that it benefits from the happy circumstances of where it is produced—next to ocean water and on land that gives Laphroaig® a unique peaty taste. It is one of only a few distilleries that still uses traditional malting floors and dries and infuses its own malt with the thick blue smoke from old peat-fired kilns. It’s also the only Single Malt Scotch Whisky to bear a Royal Warrant bestowed by HRH Prince Charles. Further demonstrating the whisky’s superior quality, Laphroaig® 18-Year-Old received the Gold Outstanding Award at the 2013 International Wine and Spirit Competition, along with Laphroaig® 10-Year-Old, 10-Year-Old Cask Strength, Quarter Cask, and Triple
Wood which won the Silver Outstanding Award, making Laphroaig® one of the most celebrated portfolios at this year’s competition.

Greetings from Campbeltown!

All knowledgeable whisky enthusiasts know that Campbeltown has a long and storied history as one of Scotland’s principal whisky-producing regions and is the home of three world-class distilleries—Springbank (notable as the only distillery in Scotland to carry out the full production process on one site), Glengyle and Glen Scotia.   Campbeltown is definitely a worthwhile destination for any group of whisky afficianados and a visit to the “Wee Toon” and its distilleries can be part of an itinerary that could include Islay and other western whisky-producing areas.

The Royal Hotel is located at the head of Campbeltown Loch, just steps from the distilleries and Cadenhead’s Whisky Shop.  The hotel was completely renovated in 2012 and offers four star accommodation and top quality food and beverage, enabling your members to enjoy an unparalleled whisky travel experience.  A video tour of the hotel can be seen at:

In addition to offering the region’s finest accommodation close to the distilleries, we can help arrange tours and tastings at Springbank, including a very special experience with Frank McHardy, the legendary former Director of Production at Springbank.  We also have our own Whisky Ambassador at The Royal and can easily arrange private tastings and whisky-themed dinners for your members.

We are experienced in arranging special packages for groups and offer group bed and breakfast packages from £49 per person per night.  We welcome you to inquire about how we can provide an exceptional whisky tourism experience in Campbeltown for your whisky club or society.

West Coast Whiskies Talisker / Longrow / Kilchoman at Single Malts Direct

Talisker 10 Year Old The Talisker 10 Year Old is a single malt Scottish whisky from the Talisker distillery on the west coast of the Isle of Skye. This Talisker scotch has won many fans around the world as well as awards. The whiskey is variously described as peaty and smoky and is credited by many as being the finest 10 year old island single malt. The Talisker 10 year old is well worth a try. £36.00 Buy it Now!

Longrow Peated Longrow Peated is a no-age statement release from Longrow. One of the three whiskies distilled at Springbank distillery, Longrow is generally peaty in comparison to its siblings. A well balanced whisky with some slightly medicinal notes. £36.50 Buy it Now!

Kilchoman Machir Bay The 2013 release is a vatting of 4 and 5 year single malt, matured in fresh bourbon barrels, with the 4 year old being finished in olorosso sherry butts for 4 weeks prior to bottlling. £40.75 Buy it Now!

Talisker 2000 Distillers Edition The Talisker Distillers Edition is a single malt whisky from the excellent Talisker distillery on the Isle of Skye. A special Distillers Edition is not widely available. A wonderful scotch the only thing unlucky about the Talisker is that they didn’t produce more of it! £52.99 Buy it Now!

Longrow 11 Year Old Rundlets and Kilderkins Every year, the distilling apparatus at Springbank distillery in Campbeltown is cleaned out and the heavier malted Longrow is produced before reverting to Springbank again. Unlike Springbank, which is partially triple distilled, Longrow is double distilled. The whisky produced is not chill-filtered so that the whisky retains all of its flavours and mouth feel. The original Longrow distillery closed in 1896, Alfred Barnard described the distillery as the quaintest he had set eyes on, with everything done by hand. The one concession to modernity being a steam engine used to power the malt mill. Today one of the bonded warehouses is used today to house Springbank’s bottling plant. Longrow originals command big prices, with an 1864 going for £7200 in 2001. £58.99 Buy it Now!

Kilchoman 100% Islay 2nd Edition Kilchoman 100% Islay 2nd Edition is the second 100% Islay release from Kilchoman and has been produced from barley grown, malted, distilled, matured and bottled at the distillery. It has been aged in fresh and refill bourbon barrels. £58.99 Buy it Now!

Talisker Storm Talisker Storm takes its name from the more intense flavour of the liquid. The briny, maritime qualities of Talisker’s distillery character are carefully selected to create a more powerful flavour experience. Like a warm welcome from a wild Hebridean Sea. £39.49 Buy it Now!     Longrow 18 Year Old Longrow 18 Year Old Longrow is a double distilled, heavily peated single malt. The first distillation was carried out as an experiment when the Springbank chairman set out to prove that it was possible to produce an Islay-style single malt whisky on the mainland. This experiment produced a whisky so special that Longrow was distilled again a few years later and has become an important part of the Mitchell’s portfolio, with regular distillation having taken place since 1992. The barley used in the production of Longrow is entirely peat dried, giving the whisky a wonderfully smokey, peaty character. The whisky is named after the old Longrow distillery which stood adjacent to Springbank. £86.99 Buy it Now!

Kilchoman 100% Islay 3d Edition Kilchoman Distillery was founded in 2005 and is the first distillery to be built on Islay for 12o years. It is a farm distillery and a proportion of the barley used in production is grown and malted at the distillery. The spirit is filled into a combination of bourbon barrels from Buffalo Distillery, Kentucky, USA and oloroso sherry butts from Miguel Martin in Spain. This is the third 100% Islay release from Kilchoman and has been produced from barley grown, malted, distilled, matued and bottled at the distillery. It has been aged for 4 years in a combination of fresh and refill bourbon barrels. £59.99 Buy it Now!

A Taste from the Past – William Grant’s Ale Cask Reserve (bottled in 2001)

Hi everyone,

Today I revisited an old friend of mine – a bottle from the very first batch of Grant’s Ale Cask. Strangely, I immediately started feeling nervous. Just holding the bottle brought me back to 2001, to one of my very first trips abroad for the company.

We didn’t have a Grant’s ambassador in those days ,…(please click on the link below to read the remainder of the article)…
