Spotlight on Glenfarclas
This week we want to show off our range of whiskies from one of the oldest independent distilleries in the country, Glenfarclas. Bought by John Grant in 1865 for the sum of £511.19s.0d, the iconic distillery is still run by his descendants to this day.
Free delivery available on all orders over £75 Next day delivery available
This extremely limited edition is drawn from the oldest cask of whisky owned by the Glenfarclas distillery. Distilled in 1953 and matured in a single Spanish oak sherry cask, this Single Malt is presented non chill-filtered at its natural cask strength of 43.9% abv. Gleaming rich sandy oak in colour, this malt offers a rich sherried nose that develops into lovely toffee notes followed by delicate oak. Once it has had time to breathe, the palate has warm spiced notes, stewed fruits and liquorice, while the finish is long and sweet with toffee apples and cinnamon sticks.

Matured in a first fill sherry butt for a whopping 60 years, only 360 bottles of this spectacular Single Malt have been produced. One of the oldest bottles ever released by the iconic family-run distillery, this incredibly desirable expression is bottled at 43.3% abv. The long family history and heritage is reflected in the packaging; a bespoke cut crystal decanter mirrors the shape of the classic Glenfarclas bottle while each side of the hexagonal presentation box represents one of the 6 generations of the Grant family to own and manage the distillery since 1865.

Glenfarclas 1994 The Whisky Shop Exclusive
This expression has been bottled exclusively for The Whisky Shop, with only 1200 bottles produced. We’re not the only ones who think this Single Malt is something special, with Jim Murray awarding it the highly-coveted Liquid Gold status and a score of 95.5 in his 2016 Whisky Bible. We are almost completely sold out of this little gem, so sales are limited to one per customer. “it’s not far off God’s gift to present day sherried malt whisky” – Jim Murray
An utter delight from start to finish – a juicy, fruity, playful Single Malt. There’s enough Glenfarclas character here for fans of the distillery to love it, but this is also a great way to start your exploration in to the distillery if you’re not yet familiar with it. Born of an ex-sherry cask and mid-amber in colour, the nose is somewhat closed to start, then scents of rice pudding, perhaps with a spoonful of red jelly, becoming more cereal-like, especially with a drop of water. A sweet overall taste, with peppery spice in the warming finish, reduced somewhat by water.
Bottled in 2013 from cask 1770, with only 166 bottles produced, this Glenfarclas comes from the dawn of the Swinging Sixties.Heavy in rich cocoa beans, this expression is reminiscent of an old fashioned Gentleman’s Club with Chesterfield chairs, polished banisters and old wood panels, notes of liquorice, toffee apple and treacle intermingling.

The character of this latest batch has been captured in abundance, blending high quality single malts including Aberlour 1975, Macallan 1969 and Glenlivet 1968. With an ABV of 47.6% this is no ordinary Scotch Whisky. With a ratio of 86% malt to 14% grain it charts the journey of many a fine whisky from as far back as 1966.
Glen Scotia Double Cask
Glen Scotia Double Cask is matured in the finest oak barrels and finished in a first fill bourbon barrels followed by Pedro Ximenez sherry casks to produce an outstanding Campbeltown Single Malt that is perfectly balanced. The nose is initially all creme caramel, caramelised fruit sugars and fudge before apple and peach come through with a charred note of bourbon. The palate is sweet and fat with a tongue tingling buzz, followed by a deep and dark finish.
Glen Scotia 15 Year Old
This Campbeltown Single Malt has been specially selected from casks that deliver the true character of Glen Scotia, spending 15 years maturing in the finest American oak barrels before bottling. The nose offers citrus peels, ginger snaps and apricot developing into dry oaky notes. The palate is weighty and dry with a hint of metallic edge, with water bringing out caramelised elements and oak before a firm and slightly dry finish.
Glen Scotia Victoriana
Each cask of the Victoriana is selected for its rare character and exceptional maturity. This Campbeltown Single Malt is finished in deep charred oak before being bottled straight from the cask without chill-filtration. Subtle wood and vanilla flavours combine with a full bodied spicy fruit aroma to create an exceptionally smooth whisky. The nose has elegant oaky notes with creme brulee, caramelised fruits and polished oak. The palate is sweet and concentrated with blackcurrant jam, subtle wood and vanilla, while the finish is clean and sweet with cocoa characteristics.

Bottled exclusively for The Whisky Exchange by Signatory Vintage, this Blair Athol whisky spent 27 years in a refill sherry butt, and has a complex character of spiced apple, citrus peel and toffee. Alex: ‘A sweet, rich attack, moving to a meaty, savoury character on the palate. This is a textbook well-aged, sherried Highlander.’ Four delicious drinks, all ideal if you’re looking for something a little different this summer.
