Our furry friends Glen & Turret had to be on their best behaviour this month when The Famous Grouse Experience got a special visit from VisitScotland Assessors. Not ones to miss being the stars of the show, they thoroughly charmed the assessors and are taking full credit for us retaining our five-star rating. They do love having a home that’s an ‘exceptional’ tourist attraction…
#BESTSCOTTISHWELCOME We kicked off Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight by giving tourists who had just touched down at Edinburgh Airport a Famous surprise. Scotland’s oldest distillery proved that a dram, some tasty Scottish shortbread and bagpipes are the perfect ingredients for the #BestScottishWelcome. Keep your eyes peeled for the video…
FAMOUS FOR A REASON It’s an unusual marriage at first glance: the public face of a whisky mega brand in a tiny working distillery nestled in the Highlands of Perthshire. Find out more about how we came to become the spiritual home of The Famous Grouse on the blog…
Mellow Gold is a premium blend with an emphasis on sherry-seasoned casks that delivers a smooth, velvety dram with vanilla and subtly sweet spice. Pick up your bottle of this month’s Dram of the Month online and in The Famous Shop.

Smooth Ambler Old Scout American Whiskey – Here’s a new line extension from one of our favorite distilleries. Old Scout American Whiskey is a beautiful blending of bourbon from Indiana and a bourbon mash recipe from Tennessee. The only reason the Tennessee juice isn’t bourbon is that the 5 years it spent in barrel were in once used barrels, therefore barring it from being labeled ‘Bourbon’. It’s non-chill filtered, smooth and delicious, and has notes and flavors of brown sugar and baking spices.
Yellow Rose Blended Whiskey and Outlaw Whiskey – Hailing from Texas, Yellow Rose is a throwback to whiskies of the Wild West. The Blended is fuller than Canadian blends due to the bourbon in the blend and will be a solid mixer for cocktails. The Outlaw is aged in small oak barrels for faster aging characteristics and is a Double Gold winner from the 2013 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Jim Beam Double Oaked – Here’s your new favorite sub $25 bottle. It’s all the things you love about Jim Beam, then put into a second brand new charred oak barrel for some double time aging, resulting in a delicious and harmonious bourbon. Seriously, it’s really good and a must try for any bourbon enthusiast.
Old Medley 12yr Bourbon – In the current bourbon climate, which is hot hot hot for those who may be unaware, it’s great to see any age statement; and it’s especially great to see a double-digit age statement! This Old Medley 12yr isn’t the most well integrated 86 proof bourbon we’ve encountered, but it does have a fantastic depth of smooth creamy vanilla and nougat, followed by a little rye-esque spice. Overall this is well worth the price of admission.
Calumet Farms TPS Private Barrel – This is our third private barrel from the Calumet Farms selections, and they just keep getting better. It’s a new no-brainer go-to bourbon for us, and falls under the category of ‘just good darn bourbon’. Stop by our Spirits Library and J.O. will hook you up with a sample on us.
Old Camp Peach Pecan Whiskey – The flavored bourbon category is rapidly expanding. This is the newest selection to the category, and it’s from the award winning country duo Florida Georgia Line. According to the band, it’s the perfect start to a party, tailgate, barbecue, or just sitting around the campfire. So grab a bottle, crank up, “Sippin’ on Fire”, and crack a bottle of Old Camp Peach Pecan Whiskey.
Chivas Regal Extra – This is the newest selection from the esteemed Scotch blending house of Chivas Regal. It’s all the smooth elegance you would expect, with a delightful Olorosso Sherry cask finish. The result is a richer, fuller, yet smoother blended scotch brimming with sweet and spicy characteristics alike.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 142: Braunstein Danica Peated Whisky
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a peated Danish whisky. During his visit to the Braunstein Distillery in Koge (near Copenhagen), the owner offered him a free miniature of the peated version of this Danish single malt. They actually import barley that is peated at the famous Port Ellen maltings. It turns out to be one of the best NAS-whiskies Mark has tried in a very long time.
