Benriach 15 Year Old Pedro Ximenez (Elsewhere $80) $49.99 at K&L California ~ Scotch Whisky News

Benriach 15 Year Old Pedro Ximenez Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Elsewhere $80) ($49.99)

The Benriach distillery makes one of the most delicious and classically Speyside single malts in the business. The 15 year old Pedro Ximenez edition takes that classic malty character and adds the richness and texture of Spain’s sweetest sherry to the mix, elevating the flavors from solely vanilla and barley into chocolate, mocha, and fudge. Normally priced at eighty dollars or more, this is a deal you won’t want to miss.

Wowee wow…these opportunities are few and far between these days, but every now and again you get lucky. As many of you know, the BenRiach Group sold to Brown-Forman recently and, if you’re not intimately familiar with the liquor business, Brown-Forman is distributed by a different company than Anchor, who was the previous importer. What happens every now and again is that the new distributor refuses to buy the old inventory from the previous supplier, which sometimes (but not always) results in a fire sale. Since I happened to be in the right place at the right time, I made an offer for the entire lot and they took the deal! Simply put: THERE IS NOTHING THIS GOOD FOR THIS PRICE IN SINGLE MALT WHISKY RIGHT NOW. Benriach, who also owned Glendronach distillery, makes textural, rich, and mouth-coating whiskies and this 15 year old sherry-finished edition offers the sweetness and intensity of Pedro Ximenez like icing on top of a malty, vanilla-laded cake. Rich and supple on the palate, this is a throwback malt for a throwback price that is simply too good to miss. Buy six bottles if you can afford to. You’ll want to keep some of these hidden away for a rainy day.

Royal Lochnagar 19 Yr Cadenhead Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Distilled: 1996 Bottled: 2015 56.6% ABV Recharred Sherry Butt.

The nose of this 19 year old has aromas of fresh fruits, sweet peat, ocean breeze and a light floral element. The palate is initially pretty with stone fruits, peat and a saline edge with turns toward savory grains on the finish. The addition of water adds body and highlights the salty edge on the palate. Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 171: The Deveron 12 Year Old – Scotch Whisky News

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, discovers the Deveron single malt. There is no Deveron distillery, but in the glen of the Deveron you will find the Macduff Distillery. It was only founded in 1962, so it is quite a young enterprise. It was built to fulfill the company’s needs for malt due to the ever increasing demand for Scotch. Macduff is the fingerprint malt in the world famous William Lawson’s blend, but has also been on the market as a single malt, albeit as Glen Deveron. A few years ago, the company overhauled the packaging and dropped Glen from the name, coming up with this new and snazzy looking malt: Deveron. There is a 10, 12 and 18 year old release. Mark tries the 12 Year Old, bottled at 40%.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Blanton’s Bourbon – American Whiskey News

phil

https://youtu.be/dFY00sYAv6s

It was only a matter of time before me and this whisky crossed paths. Blanton’s is a truly wonderful style that is produced by Buffalo Trace. Distilled from rye mash #2, it packs a slightly spicier and fruitier style than rye mash #1. Released fairly recently in the grand scheme of things, Blanton’s as a whole was released in 1984 and was the brain child of, Elmer T. Lee, who at the time was the head distiller of Buffalo Trace. It’s 60% ABV and normally a bit more as well. Spicy, balanced, historic and just genuinely beautiful altogether. If you consider yourself a Bourbon fan, this should be something at the top of your list to try. Enjoy!

Cadenhead’s Working With The Fire Fighters Charity, Actively Supporting Fire Fighters In Need – Scotch Whisky News

Cadenhead’s Working With The Fire Fighters Charity, Actively Supporting Fire Fighters In Need

cADENHEAD1

I am sure you don’t need me to remind you of the terrible events that unfolded at Grenfell Tower. We all watched in shock as people’s homes became engulfed in the worst residential fire in London since WW2. Sadly, the actual loss of life is still not known all this time later.

One of the images that stood out during the events for myself as I passed by the location on my way to work daily, was the sheer exhaustion and upset etched on the faces of the fire crews. What they witnessed is far beyond our comprehension, how they kept going was humbling. While those who should have been doing something seemed to run and hide, the fire fighters and other first responders just kept going hour after hour.

One of the most important things after such an event is the support they will need, and the best support they can get will come from those who understand where they are coming from and what they have to deal with.

The Fire Fighters Charity is best placed to provide that support, but they need money to do their vital work of supporting firefighters of the UK. For more information or to donate directly go here

We at WM Cadenhead’s would like to help in our small part by offering to do a raffle. We have a rather special one off bottle of Whisky thats been hand bottled for our Summer 2017 Charity raffle. All proceeds raised from this raffle will be donated to the charity.

Tickets are available via the website and cost £4.50 each. Your order number will be your raffle ticket, so if you buy 4 tickets (for example) then we will add your order number 4 times to the draw.

The draw will take place on Saturday 30th September 2017 and we will announce who will do the draw for us closer to the time.
