Great King Street “We’ve been Experiementing” – Scotch Whisky News

EXPERIMENTAL_Image

We’re delighted to announce the launch of our two Limited Edition Great King Street Experimental Batch whiskies:
TR-06 and 00-V4.

Since the creation of the Artist’s Blend in 2011 we’ve been thinking about the second permanent whisky in the Great King Street range. Two styles have emerged as the leading contenders – one smoky the other lightly sherried – and so we have released a limited edition, one-off Experimental Batch of each style to see what you think!

The two GKS Experimental Batches are available to buy now from our UK-based web shop and it will arrive in the coming days and weeks at your favourite whisky retailer across the UK, Europe, South Africa, certain parts of Canada and Asia. As they are packaged in a 50cl format they will sadly not be available in the United States (sorry).

Only 3,805 bottles have been produced of the smoky TR-06 Batch and 3,439 bottles of the  sherried 00-V4 Batch.
So, taste, savour, mix if you like; above all, share & enjoy them with your friends. Then simply click here to let us know which Experimental Batch you prefer and why.

Batch #00-V4 (Orange)

  • Sweet, fruity with notes of blueberry jam, ripe plums, candied oranges and toffee popcorn.
  • A one-off, limited release of 3,439 bottles.

Batch #TR-06 (Blue)

  • Complex, smoky and aromatic with notes of seaweed, mint, salt spray and an underlying dried fruit sweetness.
  • A one-off, limited release of 3,805 bottles.

Happy experimenting

The Bruichladdich Octomore 6.1 Scottish Barley – now available to order only while stocks last…

The worlds most heavily peated whisky. This is the 6th edition of the uber-experimental cult Octomore.

Titanic amounts of peat but with a light, delicate complexity and a beguiling finesse.

Magnificently muscular.

As the spirit breathes in the glass a subtle change takes place. Rising steadily comes the crisp, malted barley then the sweet oak, giving notes of vanilla toasted rye bread and walnuts. Add a burst of fresh lime, poached apple and pear from distillation  whilst always in the background the steady rhythm of the sea painting pictures in your mind of a people and place who know that single malt is the stuff of life, sustaining them for generations.

Bottled at 57% volume. Only available while stocks last!

Tasting notes

Rich and honeyed aromas with golden syrup and dried apricots followed by melon, mango and a dry, crisp apple note. It has a soft creamy texture and flavours of marshmallow and candied lemons then finishing with a distinctive ash and smoke note complimenting the fruits and adding a bit of spice. A pleasant outdoor dram on Autumn evenings! Tasting notes by Darren Leitch.

Scotch Malt Whisky Society (of Canada) September 2013 Outturn – Scotch Whisky News

SMWS Sept Outturn

We’re very excited to announce the September Outturn!!

We’ll let the bottles speak for themselves below.

For complete tasting notes and to purchase from our exclusive retailers please visit www.smws.ca

Cask No. 7.80 Dapper Dan meets Holly Hunter
22 years old; refill bourbon barrel; 51.4%abv
The nose glides from paint to sensual exotic fruits (cherry, mango, blackcurrant, jelly beans) plus toffee and geranium; more perfumed and herbal with water. The palate boasts espresso dregs, tobacco, cinnamon, orange, perfume, leather and waxed jackets.

Cask No. 59.43 Caramel swirl ice cream
30th Anniversary Bottling!
29 years old; refill bourbon hogshead; 56.4%abv
LIMIT ONE BOTTLE PER MEMBER
Initially newly varnished wood developing quickly into fruity and sweet aromas of honey glazed cherries, spun sugar and vanilla biscuits. The taste is that of Cherry Coke. With water fragrant pine needles, cinnamon bark, strong black tea and vanilla ice cream with caramel swirl.

Cask No. 72.24 A promise of sophisticated desserts
8 years old; ex-white wine hogshead; 60.9%abv
Richly evocative – the nose delivers mocha, balsamico, sticky honey cake and Black Forest gateau. The palate has treacle, cola cubes and the promise of sophisticated desserts – tiramisu with crushed nuts, creme brulee, coffee-flavoured chocolate, sticky dates, golden meringues…

Cask No. G5.7 All day American breakfast
19 years old; refill bourbon hogshead; 64.6%abv
Beeswax, tangerines, eucalyptus and cardamom on the nose. The taste is sugar on caraway bread and waxy like candle dipping just before Christmas. With water, pancakes with maple syrup and eggs sunny-side up. The taste now velvety, orange and vanilla oil, nut brittle and cornbread.

Cask No. 71.37 An assignation in a boudoir
14 years old; refill sherry gorda; 57.9%abv
Creme brulee, mandarin fondant chocolates, Russian caramels; satin and velvet swags, soft leather and polished furniture, faded roses. A sweet taste with Chocolate Creams and champagne truffles; a hint of sulphur with water, and a fizzy effect on the tongue.

Cask No. 4.171 Perfumed and sultry
21 years old; refill bourbon hogshead; 53.7%abv
We were transported to an Irish lochside with pebbles, seaweed and a fresh salty breeze. The taste enhanced the seaweed with salt flakes, ash flecks and masses of umami. A most savoury dram! Water released lemon sponge and vanilla and the palate became sweet, drying, fresh and interesting.

Cask No. 29.129 Leather and lime in a smoky room
22 years old; refill sherry butt; 55.1%abv
In a musky room a smoking jacket drapes over a leather armchair by an open fire. Cigar smoke lingers with smoked mackerel skins. The palate is ashy with tobacco but balanced with lime marmalade. Nutty and peppery with sweet smoke when water is added.
