NH Liquor Commission Purchases Record Quantity of Exclusive Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel

Limited amount of Jack Daniel’s coveted whiskey available exclusively at select NH Liquor & Wine Outlets; Assistant Master Distiller Chris Fletcher to visit New Hampshire for bottle signings

Concord, NH – Only one in 100 barrels of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey is hand-selected to mature and attain the highest designation of Single Barrel quality. The New Hampshire Liquor Commission (NHLC) recently purchased a record 15 barrels – or the equivalent of 3,750 bottles – of Single Barrel, which will be available exclusively at select NH Liquor & Wine Outlets starting this week. In commemoration of the record-setting purchase, Jack Daniel’s Assistant Master Distiller Chris Fletcher will make a special appearance in the Granite State June 19th and 20th to meet with customers and autograph bottles.

“Thanks to our record sales, which reached $626 million in FY 14, including $345 million in spirits alone, the New Hampshire Liquor Commission has tremendous buying power and industry awareness and is afforded unique opportunities to acquire and deliver exclusive products for our consumers,” said NHLC Chairman Joseph W. Mollica. “This record purchase of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel is but one example of the many exceptional spirits and wines available only at our 78 NH Liquor & Wine Outlets statewide. Bringing opportunities like this to customers strengthens our brand, differentiates us from the competition and helps drive critical state revenue.”

Dramatic temperature changes and placement in the highest reaches of Jack Daniel’s Lynchburg, Tennessee barrelhouses results in a distinct flavor profile from each and every barrel of Single Barrel. One constant is Single Barrel’s one-of-a-kind flavor, robust taste, and notes of toasted oak, vanilla and caramel.

In late April, NHLC spirits marketing specialist Mark Roy traveled to the small town of Lynchburg, home to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery, to obtain first-hand knowledge of the Jack Daniel’s whiskey-making process and to hand-select the 15 barrels of Single Barrel with the assistance of Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Jeff Arnett, Assistant Master Distiller Chris Fletcher and representatives from Brown-Forman and Horizon Beverage Company. For an inside look at the barrel selection process and history of the Jack Daniel’s Distillery, visit the NH Liquor & Wine Outlets on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/nhliquorwine and YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/nhliquorandwine.

“Today’s whiskey consumers are interested in discovering nuanced flavors and that is exactly what these 15 barrels of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel provide,” said Jack Daniel’s Assistant Master Distiller Chris Fletcher. “Once the 250 or so bottles from each barrel are gone, there will never be another whiskey that will be exactly the same, making this truly a once-in-a-lifetime purchase. To have the commitment of the state of New Hampshire to come to Lynchburg, experience the entire whiskey making process, understand what affects the flavor of the whiskey and actually hand-select their 15 favorite barrels to bring back to New Hampshire, illustrates to me that the New Hampshire Liquor Commission wants nothing but the best of the best for its customers.”

On Friday, June 19th, Fletcher will make a special appearance and bottle signing at the Hooksett 93 North NH Liquor & Wine Outlet from 3-6pm and participate in a Jack Daniel’s Family of Brands tasting and meet and greet at Makris Lobster and Steak House in Concord from 7-9pm. On Saturday, June 20th, Fletcher will participate in bottle signings and tastings at the Meredith NH Liquor & Wine Outlet from 11am-1pm, the Gilford NH Liquor & Wine Outlet from 2-4pm and conclude at the Laconia Roadhouse at the Weirs Beach Lobster Pound from 5-7pm.

The 15 varieties of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel will be distributed throughout select NH Liquor & Wine Outlets and available for a limited time sale price of $44.99. Each bottle is adorned with a personalized medallion of authenticity inscribed with “Granite State Collection Record Setting 15 Barrels in 2015.”

“In addition to celebrating the record-setting purchase, the NH Liquor Commission is proud to have made its 15th consecutive Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel acquisition. We have come a long way since securing a lone barrel in 2001,” said Mark Roy, NHLC spirits marketing specialist. “Nowhere else in the world will these specific flavor profiles of Single Barrel be available. Each was selected to account for a variety of customer tastes. Every bottle selected features specific tasting notes from Master Distiller Jeff Arnett and we anticipate many customers will choose to purchase bottles from multiple barrels so they can experience the range of tasting experiences.”

INAUGURAL 1792 SWEET WHEAT BOURBON WHISKEY UNVEILED – American Whiskey News

1792 Sweet Wheat Bottle

INAUGURAL 1792 SWEET WHEAT BOURBON WHISKEY UNVEILED

More limited edition bourbons expected from Barton 1792 Distillery

BARDSTOWN, kENTUCKY (June 10, 2015) – Barton 1792 Distillery will soon debut the first ever new 1792 whiskey expression, entitled 1792 Sweet Wheat.  Distilled back in 2007, the recipe features wheat as the secondary grain, rather than traditional rye. “Using wheat instead of rye gives the taste profile a softer and more delicate flavor,” said Ken Pierce, director of distillation and quality assurance. “The soft flavor is balanced by rich oak tannins extracted by the bourbon while aging in the charred oak barrels.”

Distilled, aged, and bottled at Barton 1792 Distillery, this wheated bourbon delivers a markedly distinct flavor profile.  Made with a recipe of corn, wheat, and malted barley and a yeast strain specific to Barton 1792 Distillery, this new expression was aged for eight years in the warehouses in Bardstown. Hints of caramel, vanilla, and ripe fruit mingle with notes of deep oak tannins and tobacco. The elegant taste is followed by a clean, pleasing finish and unmistakable character.

1792 Sweet Wheat was bottled at 91.2 proof. Bottles are expected to hit stores this summer at the suggested retail price of $32.99.  Furthermore, the Distillery plans to release more new expressions of 1792 over the next few years. “We have some remarkable whiskies aging in Bardstown,” said marketing director Kris Comstock. “We’re excited to unveil them over the next several years.”

About Barton 1792 Distillery

This whiskey is named for the year Kentucky became a state and is the recent Best of Category winner at the 2014 Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition. Glenfarclas 511.19 Family Reserve – Scotch Whisky News

AA GF 511.19 FR

This month J. & G. Grant introduce the new £511.19s.0d Family Reserve to celebrate the 150th anniversary of family ownership of the Glenfarclas distillery. On the 8th of June 1865, John Grant, 1st generation of the Grant family, bought the distillery for £511.19s.0d. His grandsons, John and George, later formed the company J. & G. Grant and to this day it remains an independent business and firmly in the hands of the family’s 5th & 6th generation.

The £511.19s.0d Family Reserve, a non-chill filtered bottling at 43%, is a vatting of predominantly first fill sherry butts which proudly embodies the distillery’s sherry profile, bringing together all the character of this great spirit across the generations. Sweet and rich sherry, like a toffee syrup over a freshly toasted French baguette, the nose promises fresh fruit smothered in heather honey, ending almost like a sweet port. Then a dry yet sweet taste, a lovely balance of fruit, light nuttiness and milk chocolate develop, followed by a very palatable long and easy finish. A copy of the original bill of sale is included with each bottle along with a note from George Grant explaining the significance of the £511.19s.0d Family Reserve to the Grant family tradition.

Putting this family achievement into perspective, the time and dedication taken by the Grant’s to create a consistently high quality whisky for well over a century should not be underestimated. Within an industry where economic booms and recessions are omnipresent, the art of balancing and anticipating the worldwide demand for whisky is no easy feat. Yet the Grants pushed on through the changing landscape of the whisky industry, as more and more distilleries were bought over by international conglomerates, as drinks portfolios expanded and aged single malt took to the fore. Over the years they have witnessed an entire transformation of distillery ownership across Scotland, resisting company proposals for the purchase of their very own distillery and choosing instead to be governed by no one other than themselves.

To mark this historic occasion today at the distillery, John and George Grant filled 10 sherry butts and 10 sherry hogshead casks to lay down for the future generations. “The beauty of independence is that we have total control over the quality and character of our whisky, and with this control we can personally choose what we want the brand to represent”, says George Grant, 6th generation of the family. Today with only a handful of independent distillers left, J. & G. Grant have stood the test of time and with the release of this special edition £511.19s.0d Family Reserve, what better way to raise a glass to their history and Glenfarclas single malt whisky.

Impex Beverages “Kilchoman Loch Gorm Has Arrived!” – Scotch Whisky News

AA Loch Gorm

This year’s Kilchoman’s Loch Gorm Single Malt Whisky is finally available in the US.  Only a limited quantity of the exclusive bottling will be available and, if past releases are anything to go by, it will sell quickly.

Kilchoman’s Loch Gorm releases are traditionally matured in ex-Oloroso sherry butts and this latest edition is no exception. However, differently from previous years, sherry hogsheads were used to mature a portion of the whisk, rather than just sherry butts.

Anthony Wills, Founder and Managing Director of Kilchoman, said: “This year’s release is slightly older. Also, we decided to increase the ratio of single malt matured in smaller sherry hogsheads versus that matured in larger sherry butts. This increases the influence from the sherry casks and gives the whisky a striking intensity and richness. With that said, the whisky retains the balance and complexity Kilchoman releases are well-known for.”

Named after a famously peaty loch, from which Kilchoman draws water for the production of this and other releases, Loch Gorm is bottled at 46% ABV and is available in the US exclusively through ImpEx Beverages Inc, with a recommended retail price of $99.99.

Worthy of note, the Robb Report magazine just included Loch Gorm in a list with the most heavily peated Scotches in the world. See post here.

Tasting Notes: Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2015 Single Islay Malt Scotch Whisky

Colour: Deep and rich.

Nose:  Soft, spicy and rich with light smoke dark chocolate and citrus fruit.

Palate:  Soft fruits and peat smoke with a rich sweet finish.

Finish:  Long and sweet, lingering smoke, well balanced.

Notes

Kilchoman Distillery is a small family run farm distillery based on the rugged west coast of Islay. The distillery was established by Anthony Wills in 2005, the idea was to build a new distillery which took whisky production back to its roots. Anthony and wife Kathy have now been joined by their three sons: George, James and Peter.   Kilchoman produces its 100% Islay single malt from barley which is grown in fields surrounding the distillery and completes every stage of the whisky-making process at the distillery, including traditional floor malting. Kilchoman is the only distillery in Scotland to do this. Kilchoman is now very much a family affair:   Since the first bottling was released in 2008, Kilchoman has quickly established itself as a high quality Islay Single Malt Whisky with these notable awards:

  • Kilchoman’s exceptional quality was recognised at the prestigious International Whisky Competition (IWC) when Anthony Wills was named Master Distiller of the Year 2013.
  • Machir Bay was named Whisky of the Year at IWC 2013. Loch Gorm was also awarded Gold, Machir Bay received Silver and 100% Islay 2nd Ed was given bronze.
  • Kilchoman 2007 Vintage received Whisky Advocate’s Award for Islay Single Malt of the Year 2013.
  • In 2012 Machir Bay was awarded two prestigious IWSC Gold medals and a Silver medal, and was named in GQ’s Best 100 Things of 2012.
  • Kilchoman won Malt Advocates Artisan Whisky of the Year 2011, only three years after the first bottling was released.
