JAMESON COLD BREW SET TO REFRESH “IRISH WHISKEY AND COFFEE” – Irish Whisky News

JAMESON COLD BREW SET TO REFRESH

IRISH WHISKEY AND COFFEE

Jameson Irish Whiskey, which is produced by Irish Distillers in Midleton Distillery, is set to pilot a new and innovative take on the classic combination of Irish whiskey and coffee; Jameson Cold Brew. Jameson Cold Brew will be trialled in limited quantities from September 2018 in response to the growing global appetite for Irish whiskey, quality coffee and coffee-driven cocktails such as the espresso martini.

Jameson Cold Brew is a combination of triple-distilled Jameson Irish Whiskey and refreshing cold brew coffee extract, crafted from the finest, 100% Fairtrade arabica beans from Columbia and Brazil. The result is a smooth, new Irish whiskey experience, with a bold coffee taste balanced with charred wood on the palate and a warming mouthfeel on the finish.

Underpinning the long-standing association between Jameson and coffee, Jameson Cold Brew is best served over ice or in a coffee cocktail such as the Jameson Cold Brew martini or the Jameson Cold-Fashioned. The pilot innovation is set to inspire bartenders and appeal to lovers of whiskey, coffee and food with a new Jameson experience that can be enjoyed from day to night.

Jameson Cold Brew is set to tap into the rise in popularity of both Irish whiskey and coffee culture in key cities around the world, typified by all-day coffee shops that cater for both a daytime caffeine fix and evening cocktail experience. Bottled at 35% ABV, the new release will debut in the Jameson Distillery Bow St, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Dublin Airport from September 2018 at an RRP €28.50.

Brendan Buckley, Strategy, Innovation and Prestige Director at Irish Distillers, commented: “Over the past ten years, we have seen the continued rise in popularity of both Irish whiskey and craft coffee culture, and while the two are no strangers in the glass we wanted to modernise this iconic duo. Jameson Cold Brew combines the best of both worlds in a new and refreshing way and we are confident that Irish whiskey and coffee fans alike will enjoy the taste experience it offers.”

Notes to Editors

 Jameson Cold Brew tasting notes:

Appearance: Rich dark brown

Aroma: Intense rich coffee bean aromatics combined with vanilla nuttiness of Jameson

Taste: Distinctive, bold and natural with refreshing coffee impact followed by charred wood from the pot still whiskey contribution on palate. Full bodied, smooth and warming on mouthfeel

The Whisky Barrel releases their latest exclusive bottling, an Orcadian Blended Malt Scotch Whisky.

Specialist online whisky shop, TheWhiskyBarrel.com, is proud to release a very limited Orcadian Blended Malt Scotch Whisky from the parish of St Ola.

The Orkney Islands, located off the north coast of Scotland, are full of mystery and intrigue. The island was in many ways shaped by the Vikings who settled in Orkney over one thousand years ago. There are age-old tales of Viking settlers, the striking St Magnus Cathedral (or ‘Light of the North’) and even Pictish ruins.

As well as the striking ‘Light of the North’, St Ola is home to both Highland Park and Scapa Whisky Distilleries. In other words, St Ola is the home of Orcadian whisky.

TheWhiskyBarrel.com could not possibly pass up the chance to take the very first St Ola Scotch Whisky. This blended malt might only be eight years old but it is full of flavour and certainly a credit to Orkney.

With an ABV of 66.2%.  There are 82 numbered bottles available so there will be a limit of two bottles per customer.

Available exclusively from The Whisky Barrel, shipping to customers Worldwide including the United States of America, Canada and Japan.

Cladach – Diageo Special Releases 2018 #10

It’s time to reveal the final bottle of the Diageo Special Releases 2018Cladach.

What is Cladach

For the second year in a row, Diageo have dropped a secret bottle into the line-up, only revealing it on the day of the launch party. It’s a blended malt whisky.

While last year’s Collectivum XXVIII was a blend from all of Diageo’s operating malt whisky distilleries, Cladach is a bit more selective. The name means ‘coastline’ in gaelic and it was created using whisky from Diageo’s coastal distilleries: Inchgower, Clynelish, Talisker, Oban, Caol Ila and Lagavulin.

Like Collectivum, Cladach was created by Keith Law, a veteran of Diageo’s blending team. It marks a milestone for Keith, as it was his final project before retirement. Fortunately, it’s a fitting swansong.

TWE2

Tasting Notes

Nose: Pink shrimp sweets and leather to start, with smoke slowly building behind. Fresh sea air and crashing waves sit alongside earthy peat and maritime-tinged smoke. Meaty barbecue notes develop.

Palate: Peat leads but is quickly pushed to the back. The whisky is built around a sweet centre of boiled sweets and apple sauce, surrounded by salt and freshly-ground black pepper. A tingle of sherbet leads to zesty waxed lemons and sweet orange.

Finish: Sweet peat and grass with a touch of char.

Comment: An incredibly well-balanced dram, pulling out the distinctively coastal characteristics of the component whiskies without allowing smoke to swamp the more delicate flavours. However, Talisker and Clynelish are definitely doing the heavy lifting.

The nose is all lady’s handbags and shisha pipes. The palate gives tropical fruit salad; with leather and wood spices on the finish.

Compass Box Autumn Updates From The Blending Room – Scotch Whisky News

CB1

Introducing The Story of The Spaniard:
Our new malt whisky with its core components aged in Spanish wine casks

We plan to produce this malt whisky once or twice per year, depending on our ability to source the quality of Spanish wine casks we require. In this, our first release, 48% of the whiskies have been aged in ex-Sherry casks and 25% in ex-Spanish red wine casks. We may change the type of casks from year to year based on availability and experimentation, but Spanish casks – either Sherry wine casks or Sherry-style wine casks – will always play the key role.

The first bottling is now available in Europe and will soon be available in the US.  Get in touch with us if you’re looking for a bottle and the team would be happy to point you in the right direction.

Meet Rosey Mitchell

This summer, we welcomed six top bartenders from around the world to our blending room in London for the global final of our first-ever bartender competition, The Circle.

The three-day final was designed to encourage the bartenders to cross boundaries with a series of blending, cocktail and design challenges.

Our winner – Rosey of Three Sheets bar in London – is now working with us on a limited edition blend which we’ll release in 2019.  We’ll share the behind-the-scenes story of the collaboration in our emails over the coming months.
