*NEW RELEASE* Sullivans Cove Old & Rare American Oak 18yo HH0107 – Tasmanian Whiskey News

OLD & RARE AMERICAN OAK Aged 18 Years
SINGLE CASK HH0107

This batch of Old & Rare American Oak Single Cask is now availiable for purchase, exclusively to our mailing list members. HH0107 was distilled in the final days of the last millennium (December 1999), and decanted in June of 2018 after a maturation of eighteen years and seven months, making this the oldest single cask whisky ever released by Sullivans Cove. Aged in a single, 200L American oak ex-bourbon cask, the final whisky yield was only 208 bottles at 47.4% abv.

Each bottle comes in a unique, hand made, solid oak presentation box, and includes a letter of authenticity signed by Head Distiller Patrick Maguire and Production Manager Heather Tillott. Whiskies of this age are incredibly rare in the still-young Australian whisky industry, so these few bottles represent a literal liquid history for you to enjoy.

Nose: The scent of coconut slice and lemon blossom make the mouth water from the first smell, followed by a rainforest song of waxy flowers, wet earth, green leaves and toasted nuts.

Palate: Waxy bananas, orange peel, coconut, strawberries and cream lollies alongside gingerbread, cacao nibs, sourdough bread crumbs and a consistent  note of pineapple.

Finish: Toasted nuts, vanilla, aniseed and coconut, riding on a wave of pineapple all the way to the horizon.

Jura launches limited edition dedicated to its island community Jura Two-One-Two #1; 13 Years Old – Scotch Whisky News

Jura launches limited edition dedicated to its island community

Jura Two-One-Two #1; 13 Years Old

Jura Single Malt Whisky is set to pay homage to its small and vibrant island community with the launch of the new series of limited annual releases, Jura Two-One-Two, dedicated to the 212 (ish) members of the Jura community.

The first limited edition is a 13 Years Old single malt with a bold ABV of 47.5% which accentuates the unique house of Jura.  The added dimension is created by concluding its maturation in Chinkapin Oak casks from the Ozark Mountain Range of Missouri.  Known for its acorns, this is a highly prize white hardwood which adds a distinctive twist to the sweet, spicy and smoky character.

With a warm honey hue, this small batch whisky is elegant on the nose with an aroma of lemon cake that gives way to cinnamon spice and creamy toffee. A whisper of poached pear and of sherbet then lead into a spirit that is charming on the palate. Vibrant flavours of nutmeg and ginseng are bolstered by roast pistachios wrapped up in the tang of the Chinkapin oak.

Kirsteen Beeston, Head of International Malts at Whyte and Mackay, said, “We talk about Jura being a long way from ordinary and this latest creation certainly supports this.  By celebrating the people who make up our community, we are not only acknowledging the fundamental role they each play in our whisky, we are also highlighting the vital role of community to the Jura brand.

“Two-One-Two is special.  From its inspiration, to its ABV and finish, this single malt offers consumers something full of character which is both affordable and collectable.  Being small batch, we are excited to be able to up the age with every release which we know will appeal to those who love Jura and the wider whisky fraternity.”

Gregg Glass, Whisky Maker at Whyte & Mackay Ltd remarks, “Chinkapin is a wood that is rarely seen in the industry, but the impact it imparts on Jura’s light grassy spirit is worth the experiment. It’s a fantastic partner which pushes the boundaries of what people expect of Jura’s house style, while its pioneering nature is the perfect way to celebrate the exceptional community which our distillery sits at the heart of.”

Highly collectable and affordable, the inaugural Jura Two-One-Two will be limited to just 6000 bottles at an RSP of £90/Euro 100/$120 and released annually over the next five years.

The hand crafted style and design of Jura Two-One-Two reflects natural textures of its island home and sees the classic Jura bottle wrapped in paper adorned with imagery from the island.

Jura Two-One- Two #1 is available now in select markets internationally including the UK, France, Germany, Africa, Russia and Greater Europe.

Compass Box Myths & Legends I

The first of the trio has been produced with two parcels of Highland single malt whisky, each from Balblair distillery, but with markedly different flavour profiles. The Whiskymakers believe that the marriage of the parcels in this single malt affords a new understanding of what the distillery can produce. Crafted with 15-year-old, 16-year-old and 22-year-old whisky, this first release is bottled at 46% abv and limited to just 4,394 bottles worldwide.

Crafted with whisky ranging from 16 to 23 years old, this second release is bottled at 46% abv and limited to just 4,446 bottles worldwide.

Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask – Our Fastest-Selling Luxury Whisky Now Back In Stock – Taiwan Whisky News

One of the Hottest Names in Collectible Whisky Returns
2008 Kavalan “Solist – K&L Exclusive” Sherry Cask Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Taiwanese Whisky ($209.99)
“Little in the world compares to this…”—David Othenin-Girard, K&L SoCal Spirits Buyer

Now that Kavalan is a household name among whisky aficionados after garnering World Whisky of the Year and World’s Best Single Malt Whisky honors, their bottlings are disappearing from the market at an astonishing rate. Early last year, we had the incredibly rare opportunity to offer a single barrel of the Kavalan “Solist” Sherry Cask, which easily became one of our fastest-selling whiskies of 2018. In November, our minds were blown by the stupendous luck at gaining access to a second cask long after our first offer sold out. So now we don’t even know what to make of the fact that, once more, we recently stumbled across another miniscule stash of this collector’s dream. The third time’s a charm, as they say. Then again, so were the first two.

This particular cask was distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2013, after which it rested comfortably (and discreetly hidden or “lost”) in the distributor’s warehouse until we scored a sample. We were offered first crack at the remaining supply, and there was no question about what to do. This cask shows a rounder and slightly more decadent profile than its previous two sister casks while still maintaining that characteristic chewy density and weight for which the brand is known. Collectors the world over are going to great lengths (and expense) to get their hands on Kavalan’s single cask whiskies, and this one is available nowhere else. Whether you secured some of this stunning juice on the last two go-rounds or you just missed the train, this is an opportunity that must be seized.

2008 Kavalan “Solist – K&L Exclusive” Sherry Cask Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Taiwanese Whisky (750ml) ($209.99)

The spectacular Kavalan Sherry Cask “Solist” has become harder and harder to get. The importer used to bring samples by once or twice a year and we’d get to pick one and pray it showed up, but now they’ve got a number of other flavors they’re focusing on and the incredibly delicious Sherry Cask, their most highly regarded regular release, has become extremely limited. That’s why we were absolutely flabbergasted to find that an entire cask of Solist Sherry (Solist is the international name for the cask strength single barrels and the name does not appear on the label) had been sitting in the importer’s warehouse for several years. We got our hands on a sample and fell in love. This wild cask of Kavalan was distilled way back in 2008 and bottled almost five years ago. It’s been waiting in the wings while our single barrels have come and gone. We’re not sure if this cask was partially sold into other markets, but we bought all 40 cases left. While that might seem like a lot, we typically get 80+ out of a sherry butt. Due to the incredible scarcity and allocated nature of this product, we don’t expect it to last very long. The style here is sweeter and rounder than some of the hardcore tannic versions we’ve had in the past. Deep fruit compote, bold exotic spices and roasted hazelnuts coupled with a rich chewy texture that’s become the hallmark of this exceptional bottling.
