A malt that has been made for those cold Winter evenings, this 8-year-old not available in Europe explodes with bonfire smoke and salty seaweed with a gentle sweetness on the finish. The perfect present for any peat lover this Christmas.

Laphroaig Distillery was established in 1815 on the rocky south coast of the Isle of Islay off the west coast of Scotland. This malt whisky distillery continues to malt barley using its traditional malting floors and malt kiln. In 1994 the distillery was awarded the Royal Warrant. The core range is quite extensive and supplemented by limited releases including a 21 year old was issued in 2015 to celebrate 21 years of Friends of Laphroaig. Independent bottlings are also available from Signatory, Cooper’s Choice and Hunter Laing. Laphroaig distillery also participates in Feis Ile, the Islay Festival of Malt and Music.

Just landed: Fettercairn 16 Year Old 2nd Release 2021

The anticipated second release in the annual 16-year-old series from the Highland distillery is aged in a tasty combination of Oloroso casks and rare first-fill Palo Cortado sherry butts. This interesting maturation combined with Fettercairn’s unique distilling methods and signature tropical fruit style of spirit brings complexity in soft spices and toffee sweetness to this more-ish dram. The nose opens with sugared almonds, dried fruits and oak notes. Tropical fruits lead the palate with ripe mango, citrus zest, apricots and raisins balanced with walnut, mocha and liquorice notes. World’s first 100% community-owned distillery launches first whisky 

GlenWyvis Distillery’s inaugural release Single Malt Whisky is the first whisky to be made in Dingwall in almost a century

Embargoed Friday 10^th December 2021, 00:01; The world’s first 100% community-owned distillery, GlenWyvis Distillery, has launched its first-ever whisky.

3,600 individually numbered bottles of the three-year-old GlenWyvis Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky have been allocated to GlenWyvis Distillery shareholders, whose investment enabled the build and development of the distillery. 

A further 2,000 bottles were available to pre-order in October 2020 and sold out almost immediately. 200 bottles will also be available at selected local retailers and on-trade premises throughout Scotland.

Made from a batch of 18 casks, including 15 first fill ex-Tennessee whiskey (80%), two first-fill ex-Moscatel (15%) and one refill Hogshead (5%), the grain-forward whisky showcases the unique fruitiness of extra-long fermentation. The whisky is 50% ABV, non-chill filtered, and no colouring added.

The nose of the whisky is light and floral with a hint of malty sweetness. The palate brings a burst of rich stone-fruit, giving way to brown sugar, with a finish of lingering vanilla balanced with ripe orchard fruit.

GlenWyvis Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the first whisky to be produced in Dingwall in almost 100 years, with the last whisky distillery, Ben Wyvis, closing its doors in 1926.

The bottle

The design of the GlenWyvis Whisky bottles is inspired by the local area. On each bottle you will see contour lines – this is a map of Ben Wyvis, the mountain that is the backdrop to the distillery. You will also see birds on the bottle – these are Red Kites, a majestic bird of prey with a forked tail that you will often see around the distillery and the surrounding area.

In addition, the bottle is finished with a natural cork stopper and all of its packaging is recyclable.

Nestled beneath the sprawling mass of Ben Wyvis in the Scottish Highlands, GlenWyvis Distillery was established in 2015. The idea was to unite the community of Dingwall through the creation of a distillery principally owned by local people.

Dingwall’s last whisky distillery closed in 1926. With a nose led by notes of creamy vanilla with a hint of medicinal peat and a palate that features a blend of spice, peat and caramel, that finishes with a delicious combination of creamy pudding and medicinal iodine. Our third 10-Year-Old Single Malt expression whisky is designed to be shared and savored.

Glenallachie Distillery is a Speyside distillery sitting on the eastern edge of Ben Rinnes mountain where it is rather exposed to the elements and is often to be see sitting within the snowline. A modern building and its architect William Delmé-Evans created a distillery which is rather pleasing on the eye. Glenallachie was commissioned in 1967 with two stills which increased to four in 1989 in order to meet blenders ever increasing demand for Glenallachie malt whisky. Whilst official releases are few independent releases are more numerous with those from Signatory Vintage and Cadenheads proving popular.

Linkwood is one of the most iconic Speyside distilleries not typically sold as a stand-alone single malt, and for good reason: Diageo needs every drop for Johnnie Walker and the various other blends sold by the spirits giant. Linkwood is considered by most blenders to be the ideal canvas, loaded with fresh fruit flavors, a flutter of grassiness, and plenty of weight on the palate. This excellent cask of Linkwood was bottled by the wonderful Thompson Brothers, which markets their products as “Redacted Bros” in the US. The brothers, Phil & Simon, made a name for themselves by founding one of the world’s great whisky bars at their parents hotel in Dornoch. Subsequently they’ve crowd funded the creation of a distillery next door and begun bottling casks to help fund the entire operation. Not only are they some of our favorite people in the industry, but they’ve got exceptionally good taste and seem to get hold of top quality barrels at ridiculously reasonable prices. #8 on the Whiskey Advocate’s Top 20 Whiskies of 2021! This limited edition release used to be absolutely impossible to get. With the tremendous reception they had at the distillery for the Double Oak, Peerless decided to double down and expand it’s distribution. They combed the warehouses for the most fruity, grain forward, and herbal barrels – the more intense the better – and then promoted those barrels into the Double Oak program. The extra intensity of the original barrels is able to stand up to a second maturation in new oak. The whiskey than becomes the balanced Bourbon Peerless requires but with the added focus on American oak.
