NOSE: Lashings of heather honey, dark chocolate and mocha, with almonds, cinnamon and orange peel. TASTE: Waves of dark chocolate, treacle, mocha, heather honey and almonds, fused with cinnamon, marmalade and grapefruit.

Glenallachie Distillery is a Speyside distillery sitting on the eastern edge of Ben Rinnes mountain where it is rather exposed to the elements and is often to be see sitting within the snowline. A modern building and its architect William Delmé-Evans created a distillery which is rather pleasing on the eye. Glenallachie was commissioned in 1967 with two stills which increased to four in 1989 in order to meet blenders ever increasing demand for Glenallachie malt whisky. Whilst official releases are few independent releases are more numerous with those from Signatory Vintage and Cadenheads proving popular.

Linkwood is one of the most iconic Speyside distilleries not typically sold as a stand-alone single malt, and for good reason: Diageo needs every drop for Johnnie Walker and the various other blends sold by the spirits giant. Linkwood is considered by most blenders to be the ideal canvas, loaded with fresh fruit flavors, a flutter of grassiness, and plenty of weight on the palate. This excellent cask of Linkwood was bottled by the wonderful Thompson Brothers, which markets their products as “Redacted Bros” in the US. The brothers, Phil & Simon, made a name for themselves by founding one of the world’s great whisky bars at their parents hotel in Dornoch. Subsequently they’ve crowd funded the creation of a distillery next door and begun bottling casks to help fund the entire operation. Not only are they some of our favorite people in the industry, but they’ve got exceptionally good taste and seem to get hold of top quality barrels at ridiculously reasonable prices. This Linkwood is no exception. Only 120 bottles exported to the US and sold exclusively at K&L.

Ardnamurchan AD 10.21:06

The sixth edition batch, AD 10.21:06 is a deliciously sweet and smoky single malt from the Ardnamurchan peninsula; the most westerly part of mainland Britain. Like the previous batch, this is made with a 50:50 blend of peated and unpeated spirit and matured in 65% bourbon and 35% sherry casks.

More baking spice on the palate, melding with chocolate syrup, savory notes of roasted nuts and charred corn, pepper, and perfumed oak. Earthy notes emerge with water, along with spice and chocolate. #8 on the Whiskey Advocate’s Top 20 Whiskies of 2021! This limited edition release used to be absolutely impossible to get. With the tremendous reception they had at the distillery for the Double Oak, Peerless decided to double down and expand it’s distribution. They combed the warehouses for the most fruity, grain forward, and herbal barrels – the more intense the better – and then promoted those barrels into the Double Oak program. The extra intensity of the original barrels is able to stand up to a second maturation in new oak. The whiskey than becomes the balanced Bourbon Peerless requires but with the added focus on American oak.

Full of Viking soul. This 15-year-old single malt was selected predominantly from sherry seasoned European oak casks and sherry seasoned American oak casks, with a few refill casks to smooth things over. Arriving in a stunning ceramic decanter at 44% abv, this is manufactured using locally sourced raw materials. Continuing the Viking tradition in style.

Rich and spicy aromas arise on the nose, with notes of honey, Crème brûlée, cinnamon, and fruit. There is a strong note of freshly baked sponge cake on the palate, with cinnamon, citrus, and of course, peat smoke. The finish is one where the heathery peat smoke shines through, alongside the whisky’s vibrant fruitiness.
