MORTLACH DISTILLERY 14 Year Old 2007 First Editions Cask #19732

2007 vintage single sherry butt bottled by Hunter Liang & Co. for the First Editions series. Just 181 bottles. Expect apples, blackcurrants, and raisins with a rich palate of of berries, dark chocolate, light smoke, and sultanas. A nose of apples, blackcurrants, and raisins. The palate is rich with notes of berries, dark chocolate, light smoke, and sultanas. The finish is long, with lingering fruit.

Mortlach Distillery was established in 1823 on the banks of the River Dullan in the Speyside whisky region. Mortlach is equipped with wooden worm tubs, six stills of assorted shapes and sizes and three spirit safes in order to run a unique two and a half times or partial triple distillation process. Official bottling of Mortlach single malt are few, however, independent bottlers recognise the great quality of Mortlach whisky particularly following long maturation in sherry casks. Gordon & MacPahil released a stunning bottling of 70 year old Mortlach single cask malt whisky distilled in 1938 and matured in a single sherry hogshead until bottling in 2009.

The latest batch has been matured in a combination of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 59.8% abv and showcasing flavours of maple syrup, cinnamon, and milk chocolate combining with notes of dried fruit and marmalade.

This non-age-statement expression has been matured in a combination of Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks. The result is a rich, woody, and sherried single malt. This whisky is the eleventh release in the distillery’s Cask Strength series. Bottled at 59.8% abv, the dram boasts a natural deep bronze colour.

This whisky has notes of black treacle, mulled wine, and honey-drizzled nuts on the nose, with some hints of toasted oak coming through. Flavours of maple syrup, cinnamon, and milk chocolate combine with notes of dried fruit on the palate. These flavours move into a long finish full of black cherry, marmalade, and butterscotch.

Scapa Distillery was established by John Townsend in 1885 close by the shore of Scapa Bay in Scapa Flow near Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands. Scapa Distillery is one of only a very few Scottish distilleries to have retained some Corten steel washbacks and is equipped with just two stills including a novel wash still which incorporates the shell of an old Lomond still. In contrast to the other Kirkwall distillery Scapa Distillery produces only unpeated single malt whisky. Official and independent bottlings are quite limited in number due in part to low production levels during the past decades.

2003 Longmorn 15 Year Old “Advance Sample by Old Malt Cask” K&L Exclusive Single Refill Hogshead Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (200ml) $34.99 View

The Old Malt Cask Advance Sample label is a wonderful way to try an array of malts in an affordable and fun 200ml package. Longmorn, a cult favorite, is usually destined for blends. Owned by Chivas, you can guess where that famous blend gets a huge portion of its fruity top notes as well as body. Sadly the official bottlings of Longmorn tend to be prohibitively expensive. The 16 year is $150 bucks, and while that might not seem crazy in today’s inflation laden market, it’s been $150 for a long time. Built by John Duff in the late 1800s, Longmorn shares many charactistics with its neighbor and sister distillery Benriach which Duff also built 5 years after Longmorn. Marked by long ferments and a weight spirit due to very squat, wide necked stills, the unusually fruity whisky produced here is a favorite of many. Even Masataka Taketsuru of Nikka fame went so far as to model his stills on the Longmorn design when he returned to Japan. This 2003 distilled 15 year old was bottled in January of 2019 at 50% ABV without chill filtration or added color.

Double Cask 2022

Renowned for their sensational casks, The Macallan 18 Year Old Double Cask 2022 is the perfect addition to any whisky lover’s collection. This limited edition malt has spent 18 years slumbering at the famous Speyside distillery in American and European sherry seasoned oak casks. The American oak adds sweet vanilla alongside the European oak which invokes rich spice, resulting in a decadent naturally amber coloured whisky. This single malt is free from artificial colouring and is bottled at 43% abv.

Discover aromas of dried fruits, ginger, and toffee in the opening, moving to sultanas, caramel, vanilla and zesty citrus with wood spice. The ending features warming oak and sweet orange oil.
