KANOSUKE 2022 LIMITED EDITION
JAPANESE SINGLE MALT

Since 2017, Kanosuke has been producing spirit at the southern tip of Japan’s main islands and we are very pleased to finally welcome them to the UK with the release of the Kanosuke 2022 Limited Edition. Kanosuke, located near the city of Kagoshima, is part of the new wave of distilleries in Japan and at the forefront of the country’s whisky revolution.

This third official release from Kanosuke was produced using all three of the distillery’s pot stills and matured for three years in a variety of oak casks, with a focus on ex-sherry wood. The result is a fresh and vibrant whisky with layers of sherry-cask character and a long, mellow finish. As the distillery says, “…like the sun setting slowly over the East China Sea.”

Loch Lomond Open Special Edition and Loch Lomond Open Course Edition convey exceptional flavours crafted from remarkable stills

Loch Lomond Whiskies, The Spirit of The Open, has introduced two new limited-edition expressions to its portfolio of award-winning whiskies.

Loch Lomond Open Special Edition and Loch Lomond Open Course Collection have been released to mark The 151st Open at Royal Liverpool. Billed as golf’s most prestigious event,

The Open is the sport’s original championship, bringing together the best players in the world, who will tee off in July.

Michael Henry has the creative freedom to explore flavour in a more inventive way, carefully shaping the character of the whisky at the point of distillation. The final result is an elegant spirit with a distinctive fruit flavour.

Loch Lomond Open Course Edition (£240) is an Organic 22 Years Old single malt whisky distilled in 2000 on the banks of Loch Lomond. A highly exclusive whisky, with only 4,500 bottles available globally, it is finely crafted in tribute to the people, players and courses at the heart of The Open.

Certified Organic and distilled in a combination of the remarkable Straight Neck Stills and more traditional Swan Neck Stills, it is a complex whisky which perfectly showcases Loch Lomond Whiskies’ adeptness and ingenuity in whisky making. Over the course of 22 years’ maturation the orchard fruit intensify, creating a whisky characterised by flavours of tropical fruit, pineapple, mango, grapefruit and vanilla with a hint of toasted oak, ginger and cinnamon on the finish.

Adding to this year’s golf range is Loch Lomond Open Special Edition (£45). This exceptional single malt whisky was created in partnership with Loch Lomond Whiskies’ long term golf ambassador, Colin Montgomerie – one of Scotland’s most legendary golfing figures. The whisky was aged in American Oak casks before finishing its maturation journey in the rich red wine Rioja Alta Reserva cask which brings out the whisky’s unique notes of red berry, orchard fruit and creamy vanilla with dark chocolate which complement the soft smoke on the finish.

Both Loch Lomond Open Course Collection and Loch Lomond Open Special Edition are non-chill filtered to keep things as nature intended.

In a first for Loch Lomond Whiskies, each pack is designed with a QR code that will take consumers to an Augmented Reality digital experience. In addition to seeing the Claret Jug appear in 3D, consumers will be able to access exclusive golf content celebrating some of the most historic championship moments as well as immersive video content, inspired by The Spirit of The Open.

“We have been distilling whisky on the banks of Loch Lomond since 1814, crafting fine single malts which are every bit as delicious as the landscape is stunning. Pushing the boundaries of distillation, we explore new and inventive ways to bring flavour to life.

K&L Exclusive: Rare First-Fill Sherry Cask from Dalmore – Scotch Whisky News

A Rarity and a Steal: A First-Ever, First-Fill Dalmore Cask

Dalmore 10 Year Old “Hart Brothers Finest Collection” K&L Exclusive Cask Strength First Fill Sherry Butt

Unchillfiltered Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) (Pre-Arrival) ($69.99)

Among a bevy of recent pre-arrival spirits acquisitions from the inimitable Hart Brothers, this Dalmore 10 Year Old is a stupendous bargain from a brand that usually commands high prices for less expressive sherry casks on the independent market. Here we have a first-fill, K&L exclusive cask for a steal, and what’s more, it takes the beloved Dalmore character and ramps it up to eleven. We were doubly pleased to secure this cask at such an excellent price, which will certainly rise once it hits our inventory this summer. Fans of this outstanding Highlands malt should go big, so they can enjoy this incredible dram time and time again.

Dalmore 10 Year Old “Hart Brothers Finest Collection” K&L Exclusive Cask Strength First Fill Sherry Butt Unchillfiltered Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) (Pre-Arrival) ($69.99)

*Pre-arrival item expected to be available for shipment or pickup in June 2023.

K&L Notes: Dalmore is one of those malts that will forever be controversial. They’ve made a name for themselves selling old sherry barrels at astronomical prices, but we rarely see the malt bottled as single barrel or at cask strength. When we do come across the odd independent bottling, it’s almost always in second- or third-fill barrels destined otherwise for some big-name blend, and while those can be lovely whiskies, they simply don’t capture the essence of The Dalmore like you might expect. That is, of course, because the brand has become synonymous with sherry aging. Now, for the very first time, we can offer a proper single cask of Dalmore aged entirely in sherry! It’s bottled at full cask strength and is fully non-chillfiltered, nor is there any added coloring. The resulting whisky is exactly what all the whisky geeks hoped for: amazing. When you’re tasting those distillery bottlings, loving the flavors, but ultimately crying out for more character, intensity, and power —this is the barrel for you. If you’re a classic Dalmore lover, you’ll probably want to take one home, even if it falls out of the distillery’s typical soft and round character. That said, with a nice splash of water this gorgeous thing relents easily, reminding us that the Dalmore is really a gentle dram, given the right environment. There’s no question that sherry-aged Scotch lovers of all stripes will appreciate this excellent and well-priced cask.

KNOB CREEK® ADDS SEVEN-YEAR AGE STATEMENT TO ITS KENTUCKY STRAIGHT RYE WHISKEY – Kentucky Rye Whiskey News

KNOB CREEK® ADDS SEVEN-YEAR AGE STATEMENT TO ITS KENTUCKY STRAIGHT RYE WHISKEY

The addition furthers the brand’s legacy of craftsmanship and its ongoing commitment to producing high-quality rye whiskey

CLERMONT, KY – March 31, 2023 – Knob Creek®, a pioneer in the Small Batch Bourbon category, is excited to announce the addition of an age statement to its well-loved Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey. This seven-year age statement is a testament to the craftsmanship, patience and care behind its super-premium whiskey and reinforces the brand’s dedication to producing world-class whiskies for its fans.

“My dad Booker Noe created Knob Creek with the intention of crafting a full-flavored whiskey without shortcuts, and Knob Creek has continued to set that standard for more than 30 years,” said Fred Noe, Booker’s son and Seventh Generation Master Distiller. “We are excited to continue his legacy with the addition of an age statement on our Knob Creek Rye Whiskey. I’m excited for whiskey fans to taste it, and I know Dad would be proud.”

This update to the brand’s core rye expression offers fans the same Knob Creek Rye taste profile they know and love, but with the whiskey now guaranteed to be aged for a minimum of seven years. This strengthens the whiskey’s depth of character due to the extra time in the barrel and enhances notes of the American Rye spice, sweet vanilla and oak that is characteristic of Knob Creek Rye.

Knob Creek 7 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey is bottled with the following characteristics:

  • Proof: 100
  • Color: Amber brown
  • Aroma: Sweet caramel and vanilla mixed with deep round rye spice accompanied by apple and floral notes with a hint of leather
  • Taste: Full body with balanced black pepper, sweet vanilla, and caramel finished with lingering oak and rich spice
  • Finish: Warm and smooth with spice throughout

Knob Creek 7 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey is now available nationwide with a suggested retail price of $36.99 for a 750mL bottle. For more information about Knob Creek 7 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey and Knob Creek’s award-winning* bourbon and rye portfolios, please visit www.KnobCreek.com or visit us on Instagram @KnobCreek.

Happy hunting and Happy Easter!

OH BEHAVE!

CASK NO. 63.91

REGION:  Speyside

CASK TYPE:  1st fill ex-bourbon barrel

AGE:  19 years

FLAVOUR PROFILE:  Sweet, fruity & mellow

BOTTLE NOTE:  “Luscious, direct and unashamedly delicious malt whisky captured at a perfect age. One for large measures, fun times and gay abandon.”

FRAZZLE DAZZLE

SMALL BATCH SINGLE MALT

REGION:  Speyside

CASK TYPE:  1st fill smoked barley wine hogsheads

AGE:  13 years

For this experimental batch, we teamed up with Tempest Brewery in the Scottish Borders. We commissioned Speyside Cooperage to create some new American oak hogsheads with a heavy toast and a medium char. These hogsheads were then sent to Tempest, where they were filled with an off-the-wall smoked barley wine (think 12.5% ABV smoked stout!). After five months, the beer was bottled and the casks were filled with selected un-peated Speyside malts. These whiskies underwent a period of additional maturation for just under 3 years, before being blended together to create this unique whisky.

A REWARD FOR PATIENCE

DISTILLERY 36 RARE RELEASE

REGION:  Speyside

CASK TYPES:  1st fill oloroso quarter casks & 2nd fill bourbon barrels

AGE:  10 years

FLAVOUR PROFILE:  Deep, rich & dried fruits

From Euan Campbell, SMWS spirits manager: There’s a beautiful balance to this, which was first matured in bourbon hogsheads before we transferred it to 125-litre Oloroso quarter casks that were supplied to us by our partners in Jerez, José y Miguel Martin. After that, we put it back into 2nd fill bourbon barrels that we’d recently emptied, giving it time to relax and marry before bottling. The result is a superb dram with the big, dark and intense flavours you would associate with Oloroso sherry maturation, but with the lush tropical notes from the bourbon casks as well.

SPEYSIDE BALSAMIC*

CASK NO. 46.131

REGION:  Speyside

CASK TYPE:  1st fill ex-bourbon barrel

FLAVOUR PROFILE:  Spicy & sweet

BOTTLE NOTE:  “Playfully sweet, but with enough nourishing earthy spices to provide backbone. This is a wonderfully balanced and eminently sippable dram.”

*GIVING SPIRIT BOTTLE:  100% of SMWS Canada’s profits from the sales of this bottle will be donated to charity

LITTLE DRAM ON THE PRAIRIE

CASK NO. 140.12

BEWARE OF THE REAPER CHILLI

CASK NO. 16.72

REGION:  Highland

CASK TYPE:  Refill re-charred hogshead

AGE:  8 years

FLAVOUR PROFILE:  Heavily peated

BOTTLE NOTE:  “Aromas of malt extract, oily mechanic’s rag and peat singed pineapple pieces all could not prepare us for the taste, Carolina reaper chili pepper.”

*UPCOMING RELEASE* Special Cask French oak ex-Muscat TD0314 – Tasmanian Whisky News

Special Cask
French Oak ex-Muscat
TD0314

Tomorrow we release Special Cask TD0314. With notes of orange blossom, tangerine, mango and lychee, it is easy to think we’re talking about our spirit, but we’re actually referring to flavours found in Muscat wine.

While the shared bright and fruity components of Sullivans Cove spirit and Muscat wine compliment and elevate one another, French oak brings the necessary structure, depth and intricate spice to complete the picture perfectly.

TD0314 is the ultimate example of parts coming together to create something extraordinary. Balance and bliss.

French oak ex-Muscat TD0314

An incredibly expressive and delicious example of the far-reaches of French oak, Muscat and Sullivans Cove spirit. It has it all; intricate spice, incredible alluring depth that perseveres until the very end of the finish, sweet citrus to provide a bright edge, and fully developed, decadent texture and body. Each component serving as an agent to highlight the other. TD0314 was decanted at 14 years old from a 225L French oak ex-Muscat barrel, yielding just 287 bottles of Sullivans Cove Special Cask.

2012 Dailuaine 10 Year Old “Firkin Whisky K&L Exclusive” Oloroso & Amontillado Single Cask Speyside Single Malt ~ Scotch Whisky News

2012 Dailuaine 10 Year Old “Firkin Whisky K&L Exclusive” Oloroso & Amontillado Single Cask Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

(700ml) (Pre-Arrival) $79.99 View

DAILUAINE DISTILLERY SPEYSIDE SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

*This cask is currently being offered on a pre-arrival basis. We are expecting orders to be fulfilled by the end of May 2023.* The Firkin Whisky Company is offering some of the most exceptional casks in all of Scotland. Founded by Mike and Deborah Collings, the magic they impart is in the careful build and preparation of their finishing casks. The casks are custom built and prepared by Firkin, and are a unique combination of ex-bourbon barrel and charred French oak staves. They are built into “zebra” casks of alternating stave types, then the cask is seasoned with a custom sherry blend made specifically for the whisky that will be going into the cask. In the case of this spectacular 2012 Dailuaine, the custom cask was filled with a 50/50 blend of Oloroso and Amontillado for its seasoning period. It is the perfect match for the Dailuaine, which spent years finishing in this amazing barrel. The full spectrum of flavor imparted here is unlike any other single cask of whisky we have ever bottled. Dailuaine is one of the more interesting workhorse distilleries in the Diageo stable and beloved by “K&L Exclusive” cask fans for over a decade. We bottle at least one or two casks a year from this distillery, but none have seen a finishing like this. The heavy spirit style married the sweet candied fruit of the Oloroso with the savory oxidative and nutty characteristics of the Amontillado in perfect harmony. While Firkin typically bottles at 48.9%, we kept this one at proof: 57%.
