Dailuaine 25 Years Old NEW SHOP EXCLUSIVE! – Aberdeen Whisky Shop News

Dailuaine 25 Years Old

This unique malt was bottled exclusively for our shop. Distilled in 1997 at Dailuaine Distillery, known for its oily, orchard fruit-filled spirit and aged in a bourbon hogshead for two decades before finishing in a compact bourbon cask from Koval Distillery.

This is an unprecedented example of Koval cask maturation. Never before has an older single malt rested for so long in those small casks. Nearly six years in the bourbon cask resulted in a wonderful balance between elegant old spirit and vibrant American oak.

Bottled by Murray McDavid at natural cask strength without chill-filtration or artificial colouring.

NOSE Poached pears, grilled apple and baking spice.

PALATE Green orchard fruit, fresh nuts and mellow oak.

FINISH Warming malt, herbal, gentle sweet spice. Only 137 bottles were produced.

FÈIS ÌLE BOTTLING – Mac-Talla Scotch Whisky News

FÈIS ÌLE BOTTLING

01.06.23

This is the date our Fèis Ìle bottling will be available to purchase. Bottled specifically for our debut at Fèis Ìle this year and our second limited edition release in our Mac-Talla range. 26 hogsheads and butts were hand-selected with a combination of first-fill and re-fill PX, adding structure and depth to this expression.

As Mac-Talla takes you on a journey of taste throughout the flavours of Islay, this is no exception. Bold, complex and peaty, this is unmistakably Islay, reminiscent of roasting marshmallows over a bonfire. A jammy sweetness is perfectly balanced with classic Islay peat smoke.

Bardstown Bourbon Company “Discovery Series #9” Blended Whiskey – American Whiskey News

Bardstown Bourbon Company “Discovery Series #9” Blended Whiskey (750ml)

Disco #9 is here and K&L has exclusive first rights to sell it in California. Rumored to be the final installment of the Discovery Series we’re proud to make sure Californians are able to complete their journey of discovery. Aptly named, the series has always been about unique combinations of whiskies that are impeccably blended to maximize deliciousness. They often include rare ingredients in unusal combinations, but they always taste amazing. The 9th edition features a backbone built on a mysterious 8 year old Georgia produced Bourbon with an unusual Four Grain mashbill: Corn 80% / Wheat 10% / Rye 5% / Malted Barley 5%. This makes up 35% of the blend. The next largest component is 12 year old KY Bourbon weighing in at 31% of the blend. The mashbill for this gives a few clues, but of course, nothing about the source ingredients is confirmed. Corn 75% / Rye 13% / Malted Barley 12% happens to be the same as Beam’s Booker’s mashbill and Wild Turkey’s mashbill, so either of those are a likely contributor. 19% of the blend is 17 year old TN distillate with a mashbill of Corn 84% / Rye 8% / Malted Barley 8% – surely this is George Dickel. And the final 15%? 100% corn whiskey from Ontario offering a big pop of oak and sweetness. Bardstown’s Notes: A decadent bouquet of cocoa nib, plum, and cedar box is highlighted by lively orange peel. Vanilla cream with cinnamon spice takes the lead on the palate, building to an indulgent, sublime finish.

Ardbeg Day 2023 – Heavy Vapours Limited Release – Scotch Whisky News

HEAVY VAPOURS

ARDBEG DAY 2023

70cl | 46% ABV

This limited edition Islay single malt was launched to celebrate Ardbeg Day 2023. This experimental whisky was distilled without using Ardbeg’s copper purifier, ensuring that bolder, heavier compounds passed through the distillation process. This distorts the usual balance between fruit, sweetness and smoke, whilst accentuating the smoky and oily character of Ardbeg.

 NOSE

Smoke rises with a cloying sweetness. Intense, pungent and aromatic, a distinctive farmyard scent drifts, along with a crunchy aroma, like creosote or tarry rope. A splash of water disturbs the vapours and dark chocolate cream billows, laced with a ribbon of smoked artichoke.

PALATE

A burst of bitter-sweetness surges, disturbing ashy coal dust and casting a haze of cardamom, peppermint and coffee grits. Clouds of dark chocolate and mentholic eucalyptus roll in, obscuring the fruit and floral notes usually found at the heart of Ardbeg. Wisps of aniseed twists, cinnamon balls and antiseptic lozenges float on the palate.

FINISH

The aftertaste lingers long and bold, with an almost anaesthetising sensation.

Beautiful Bourbon Casks – Aberdeen Whisky Shop News

The Bourbon origin

This classic American whiskey originates from Bourbon County, Kentucky, United States of America and has been distilled since the 18th century. Its distinct smoothness and rich flavour comes from the mixture of the grain spirit and the American white oak, a very mellow wood containing only a few tannins. This results in a smoother and milder taste.

Bourbon barrels

Bourbon Barrels are made with premium American oak and feature a unique charring method. The result is a fragrant, complex wood that dramatically enhances the fondness and aromas of the whiskey. After ageing the original spirit, these barrels are re-used by whisky distillers in Scotland and beyond to bring out deep caramel and orchard fruit notes in single malts and single grains.

Cask of Lindores Bourbon II

Lindores Abbey Distillery is back with its second Casks of Lindores series. The first instalment in the new series is made with local barley, aged in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at a limited-edition strength of 49.4% ABV.

PALATE

Fruity green apples, citrus lemon, banana, oaky woody notes, coffee beans and spicy peppery touches. Pleasant silky texture.

So, over the coming weeks we’ll be asking you to “Say The Hearach” with us and share your efforts with the world. Meantime, we’ve made a wee film to help things along.

If you like it, please share with your friends and ask them to say The Hearach with us too…
