Well it’s a few days early but never mind – the rain is pouring and we are definitely moving into more whisky-drinking weather!

I just wanted to remind you of the next few events happening around the UK, the first of which is the conclusion to the Springbank series that started last month. We still have Leeds, London and York to go…

Springbank Tastings

It has taken me a while, but I have finally talked the most staunchly independent of distilleries into doing a series tastings with us – a big seal of approval! For those of you who have never experienced Springbank, you are in for a treat. The only distillery in Scotland to malt all of its own barley also produces three different variations from the same site – Hazelburn, Springbank and Longrow. These are produced using differing barley peat levels and distillation styles. They have also opened another distillery, Glengyle, and will be sampling with us some of the newly matured Kilkerran from this! We will be welcoming Iain Scott, a very humorous and friendly character, to spill the beans on Springbank…

This is a great and truly iconic distillery and the whiskies are of the highest quality, so make sure you are at one of the tastings below to enjoy!

Newcastle – Berry Brothers Tasting

As seems tradition at this time of year, we welcome back to ‘Toon’ the ever-popular Edward Bates of Berry Brothers and Rudd. For those of you that don’t know these guys, you really need to check them out. They consistently boast some of the finest independently bottled single malts (and grains) available in the UK. Most are single cask bottlings and I personally can’t remember the last time I was disappointed by any of them! We will be tasting the latest releases from all over Scotland and these will vary massively in age, style and price – truly something for everyone! Ladies and Gentlemen,

This month we have for you something rather special lined up for you.

What with The Whisky Show 2010, London Cocktail Week, Rum Fest and other fun things happening this month in the world of fine drinks, we felt that we had to pull out the stops in the shop too!

As we are sure a lot of you are aware, 2010 brings us to the end of our 10th year of trading online, and to celebrate this we have done some commemorative bottlings. 10 of them in fact. To celebrate 10 years, you see. So for our tasting this month, we will be going through all 10 of these magnificent expressions.

Now some of these bottlings have long since sold out and entered into the realm of legend (although we have been able to find enough for you lovely people), so this tasting is going to be a chance for you to try some whiskies that you may well never see the likes of again! Of the 10 whiskies we will be sampling on this fine evening, however, only 3 are under £100 a bottle. As a consequence, this does mean that the ticket price is a touch on the premium side at £50.00. Of course, this veritable cornucopia of marvellous malts includes a certain Japanese whisky from 1967 that now seems to exchange hands for around £800.00 a bottle, an ancient Longmorn 1969, the very highly rated Linkwood 1973 and Clynelish 37yo, and a beautiful Hakushu 1989 Sherry Cask. So we hope you agree that this is not an unreasonable ticket price.

To host this evening of many delights we have decided that to make it a true TWE tasting, our very selves will be doing the honours. This means you get the joy of us scruffy tykes regaling you with stories and anecdotes (or just waxing lyrical about how good it tastes) for the 2 hours or so that it will take to get through them all.

We would have loved to host this on the 10/10/10, but as it’s a Sunday we can’t even put the tickets on sale on that date. The tickets will therefore go on sale at the usual time of 3:00pm on Monday 4th October, and as always are sold on a first come, first served basis and limited to 2 places per booking. Tickets will be available by calling +44 (0) 207 403 8688 after the above time and date, although despite all the other things going on in October, we are expecting this to sell out quickly so please be very persistent and patient with the redial button!

Boy time flies! Already three weeks have passed since Maltstock 2010. What a fantastic Maltstock weekend it was again. Everybody had a very relaxing and enjoyable time.

We would like to thank everybody who helped making this weekend such a terrific event. A big thank you to all our volunteers, to the industry people, to our sponsors and of course to all of you who were present this year: thank you all!!

For the third edition we have decided to make Maltstock an all inclusive weekend. With the exception of the whiskies from the whisky collectors and the raffle, everything during the Maltstock weekend is included!
