Tomatin is located in the Scottish Highlands, 16 miles south of Inverness, and is famous for its refined and elegant whiskies. The distillery has a proud heritage stretching back to the 15th century when illicit production was likely to be taking place, but it wasn’t until 1897 that the first formal distillery was established by John MacDougall as the Tomatin Spey Distillery Company.

In 2022, Tomatin was awarded ‘Scotch Whisky Producer of the Year’ and ‘Outstanding Spirits Producer of the Year’ at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). Later that year, it was recognised as ‘Sustainable Distillery of the Year’ at Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky 2023, in recognition of its continued contribution to sustainability at the distillery.

In 2023, Tomatin took home seven awards at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, while Cù Bòcan, took home three. Tomatin’s 36 Year Old was crowned the ultimate winner at SFWSC for malts, being named ‘Best in Show’, officially making it one of the best whiskies in the world.

2024 saw Tomatin’s 18 Year Old secure Double Gold for the third consecutive year at the SFWSC, elevating it to Platinum status.

Tomatin has a first-class wood policy and a commitment to knowing the history of each cask that passes through its warehouses. It is one of only a handful of Scotch whisky distilleries to have its own cooperage on-site, with cooper Allan Bartlett being named ‘Cooper of the Year’ at the 2025 Icons of Whisky Awards.

‘To What Matters’ lies at the heart of the brand’s ethos and is a belief in savouring what is truly important.

Luss Distillery earns five-star visitor attraction marking a strong start for the new spirits destination – Scotch Whisky News

Luss Distillery earns five-star visitor attraction marking a strong start for the new spirits destination

Luss Distillery has been awarded a five-star quality grading by the Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions (ASVA), just months after opening its doors on the banks of Loch Lomond.

The new multi-million-pound distillery and visitor centre, developed by Loch Lomond Group, received the top rating through ASVA’s independent Quality Scheme, which provides consistent, industry-wide standards across Scottish visitor attractions through expert grading.

The grading follows an anonymous visit that evaluates the entire customer journey from website and booking experience to arrival, staff interaction, accessibility, facilities and overall visitor experience.

Luss Distillery was officially opened by First Minister John Swinney in January 2026. It brings together four distinctive buildings, including a working gin distillery, immersive whisky and gin discovery areas, a dedicated tasting room, retail space, and a café overlooking the village of Luss and surrounding hills of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Together, they form a vibrant brand home for Loch Lomond Group’s multi-award-winning whiskies and spirits, including Loch Lomond Whiskies, Glen Scotia and Littlemill, as well as Ben Lomond Gin which is distilled on site.

Assessors highlighted the distillery’s strong kerb appeal, high-quality design, accessibility and engaging discovery experience. Staff hospitality was also praised for the warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere created.

Luss Distillery is expected to welcome up to one million visitors during 2026, capitalising on Luss’ status as one of Scotland’s most visited locations and a popular destination for both domestic and international travellers.

The distillery has created new jobs in the area, with a core team of seven, 10 café staff and additional seasonal guides joining ahead of the busy summer season. Loch Lomond Group has also bolstered its support and resource for Luss Distillery in wider business teams including marketing, customer service and procurement.

The visitor experience is led by Brand Home Manager Tony MacLean, who previously helped transform the visitor offering at Oban Distillery.

He said: “We’ve worked hard to put visitors at the centre of everything we do and it’s rewarding to see this recognised in our five-star grading. People are increasingly selective about how they spend their time and money, so we’re incredibly grateful that so many have already chosen to visit us.

“The new destination has been designed as an immersive discovery experience for whisky and gin connoisseurs, as well as those newly curious about Scotch whisky and premium spirits – there really is something for everyone.

“Helping to build the visitor experience from the ground up and seeing the team deliver a five-star experience so soon after opening, means a great deal.”

Luss Distillery is now preparing for the peak summer season, working with travel trade partners and local tourism operators to handle increased international demand. Partnerships are in development with tour operators such as Cruise Loch Lomond and nearby destinations, including Cameron House Hotel and Loch Lomond Golf Club.

Michael Golding, chief executive officer of ASVA, said: “With their ambition to deliver a new high-quality distillery and experience in beautiful Luss, it is fantastic to see it come to life and achieve a remarkable five stars in their very first grading visit.

“ASVA’s scheme is informed by international visitor research, so we know exactly what quality experiences are for visitors today, Luss Distillery has absolutely delivered on this right from day one.

“Benchmarking amongst the very best attractions in Scotland is a significant achievement that the team can be very proud of, and through the Quality Scheme, we look forward to supporting their continual improvement in the years to come.”

The five-star award reflects the growing demand for high-quality, experience-led attractions across Scotland, with ASVA’s Quality Scheme providing independent assessment of visitor experiences across the country. With strong early footfall, new jobs and international interest Luss Distillery is quickly establishing itself as a key stop for visitors to Loch Lomond.

Glencadam Visitor Centre Goes Seven days a Week Following Surge in Demand – Scotch Whisky News

Glencadam Visitor Centre goes seven days a week following surge in demand

Glencadam Distillery has extended its visitor centre opening hours, responding to rising visitor demand and strengthening its offering ahead of Scotland’s peak summer tourism season.

The Brechin-based distillery and visitor centre will now operate full tour, tasting, café and retail services seven days a week, increasing capacity and accessibility for guests.

Since opening in November, the multi-million-pound visitor experience has quickly established itself as a key destination on Scotland’s whisky tourism map, offering immersive distillery tours, tutored tastings, exclusive bottlings and hospitality experiences. The transition to seven-day operations reflects increased demand and follows a successful recruitment drive that has strengthened the team ahead of the busy summer season, enabling the distillery to welcome increasing numbers of domestic and international visitors while maintaining a premium experience.

The move also underscores the continued investment by owners Angus Dundee Distillers in both the distillery and the surrounding Angus region, reinforcing Glencadam’s growing role in supporting tourism, employment and local economic activity.

Iain Lochhead, Director at Angus Dundee Distillers, owners of Glencadam Distillery, said: “Opening our doors seven days a week is another proud milestone for everyone at Glencadam – and for the wider Brechin community. Since launching the visitor centre in November, we’ve seen strong and sustained demand from domestic and international visitors excited to experience the history, craftsmanship and character behind one of Scotland’s oldest working distilleries.

“This next chapter reflects the continued growth of the Glencadam brand. Every element of the visitor experience has been designed to celebrate more than 200 years of tradition, people and place, while creating lasting investment for the local area. It’s about honouring Glencadam’s heritage while continuing to invest confidently in the future of the distillery and the community around it.”

The announcement follows strong recognition at the 2026 International Spirits Challenge (ISC), where Glencadam secured multiple gold medals across its range. Glencadam 10 Year Old was awarded Gold, while the Glencadam 18 Year Old and Glencadam Reserva PX both retained Gold for the third consecutive year, underlining the global acclaim of Glencadam’s portfolio.

The awards also saw Glencadam’s newest release, the Glencadam 17 Year Old Réserve de Calvados, earn its first ISC medal. Crafted from hand-selected single malt, initially matured in ex-bourbon American oak before being expertly married and finished in the finest Calvados barrels sourced from Normandy, France, the limited-release expression delivers layers of orchard fruit and sweet spice balanced with Glencadam’s signature house style.

Limited to 6,360 individually numbered bottles, the expression’s launch marked a significant moment for the distillery earlier this year, coinciding with the rollout of Glencadam’s refreshed premium packaging.

Introduced following the distillery’s bicentenary celebrations, the new brand identity brings a more refined, contemporary and elevated look across the range, highlighting cask maturation, natural colour and non-chill filtration while reinforcing the distillery’s heritage storytelling and premium positioning.

Founded in 1825, Glencadam is one of Scotland’s oldest working distilleries, known for its traditional production methods that have remained largely unchanged for two centuries.

To find out more about Glencadam Distillery and to book tours and tasting experiences at the visitor centre, visit www.GlencadamWhisky.com or follow on social @GlencadamWhisky.

The café will also now operate seven days a week, opening daily from 9am, with a new breakfast menu launching on 1 June. Bookings can be made by calling (0)1356 622217.

Glencadam Distillery

Established in 1825, Glencadam Distillery is steeped in history, heritage and tradition, handcrafting single malt Scotch whisky in a process that’s remained unchanged for over 200 years. In 2021, Glencadam Distillery re-installed a working internal waterwheel, modelled on the original which was used to power the distillery back in in 1825.

One of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, Glencadam was mothballed for several years before it was purchased and re-opened by Angus Dundee Distillers in 2003.

Today, Glencadam’s multi-award-winning range includes American Oak Reserve, Reserva Andalucía, the 10-Year-Old, 13-Year-Old, 15-Year-Old, 18-Year-Old and 25-Year-Old expressions, as well as a series of special cask finishes.

Visit www.glencadamwhisky.com to find out more.

Glencadam Distillery Visitor Centre

Glencadam’s state-of-the-art visitor centre opened its doors in November, inviting visitors to explore two centuries of craftsmanship with an intimate look behind the scenes of this storied distillery.

Guests can enjoy guided tours, tutored tastings and an interactive exhibition, tracing Glencadam’s journey from its 1825 origins to its place among Scotland’s most celebrated single malts today. The new brand home also features a whisky lounge, café, retail shop and function suite, blending tradition with modern hospitality to attract more visitors to Brechin and the surrounding area.

The café is now open 7 days a week, opening daily from 9am. Bookings for the café can be taken by phone: (0)1356 622217. Breakfast menu available from 1 June.

ARBIKIE BRINGS SCOTLAND’S TOP DISTILLERIES TOGETHER FOR WHISKY FESTIVAL – Scotch Whisky News

ARBIKIE BRINGS SCOTLAND’S TOP DISTILLERIES TOGETHER FOR WHISKY FESTIVAL

Angus, Scotland; May 2026; Scotland’s leading distilleries will gather on the Angus coast this June as Arbikie Highland Estate Distillery hosts ‘A Dram Good Whisky Festival’, bringing together more than 10 distilleries for a day of tastings, masterclasses and distillery experiences.

Taking place on Saturday 6th June 2026, the festival will welcome whisky enthusiasts, trade professionals and visitors to the Arbikie Estate for two ticketed sessions featuring drams from participating exhibitors, guided tours, talks from whisky makers and curated masterclasses throughout the day.

Distilleries already confirmed for the festival include Bladnoch Distillery, Glencadam Distillery, InchDairnie Distillery, Kingsbarns Distillery and Nc’nean Distillery, alongside international names including Bivrost — the world’s northernmost distillery based in Arctic Norway – as well as a mix of emerging producers and independent whisky makers from across the industry.

Hosted at the award-winning Arbikie Distillery, the event follows the estate being named Sustainable Distillery of the Year at the 2026 Icons of Whisky Scotland Awards, further cementing Arbikie’s reputation as one of Scotland’s most progressive and sustainable independent distilleries.

Set against the backdrop of the Arbikie Highland Estate on Scotland’s east coast, the festival will celebrate both the heritage and future of Scotch whisky, bringing together established producers alongside emerging and internationally recognised distilleries for what is expected to be one of the region’s standout whisky events of the summer.

“This is about bringing people together through whisky,” said Iain Stirling, Co-Founder of Arbikie Distillery. “We wanted to create something that reflects the character of Arbikie – rooted in history, but always looking forward. The festival is an opportunity for people to discover new distilleries, meet the makers and experience the estate in a completely different way.

“Whisky tourism continues to play an increasingly important role in Scotland’s food and drink story, and we’re proud to be hosting an event that brings people to Angus while showcasing the diversity and creativity happening across the industry today.”

Founded on a fourth-generation family farm overlooking the North Sea, Arbikie has become internationally recognised for its field-to-bottle approach to distilling, producing whisky, gin and vodka entirely on the estate using crops grown on the farm.

Alongside tastings from every exhibitor, visitors will have access to talks and masterclasses led by distillers and industry figures, as well as guided tours through the Arbikie Distillery Experience.

The festival will run across two sessions from 11:00-15:00 and 16:00-20:00, with a dedicated shuttle service operating from Montrose Train Station for ticket holders.

Tickets are priced from £40 and include drams from participating distilleries, access to talks and masterclasses, a guided distillery tour and a complimentary tasting glass.

Edinburgh Whisky Academy Announces International Autumn 2026 Diploma Roadshow Across New York, Kentucky & London

Early Bird booking now open with a guaranteed £200 saving until 19 June 2026

Edinburgh Whisky Academy has announced an ambitious international series of in-person Diploma in Single Malt Whisky classes for Autumn 2026, with back-to-back courses taking place in New York, Kentucky and London.

The roadshow represents a major step forward for the Academy’s flagship QS-Certified qualification and reflects Edinburgh Whisky Academy’s growing international network of respected educational and industry partnerships.

The three-course series will take place at:

  • 26 & 27 October 2026
7 World Trade Center, New York, hosted in partnership with Moët Hennessy USA
  • 29 & 30 October 2026
    Moonshine University, Kentucky, USA
  • 3 & 4 November 2026
    WSET School, London, UK

Early Bird places are available until 19 June 2026, offering candidates a guaranteed £200 saving on the standard course price of £1,015.

Designed for enthusiasts and trade professionals alike, the Diploma in Single Malt Whisky is Edinburgh Whisky Academy’s globally recognised flagship qualification.

The course combines essential online pre-study with an intensive two-day classroom experience led by EWA teacher and whisky expert Vic Cameron. Candidates complete two online modules before joining immersive in-person sessions featuring advanced whisky education, discussion and guided tastings.  Rigorous yet engaging, the curriculum gives candidates a deep understanding of the single malt whisky production process, building the knowledge and confidence to better appreciate, evaluate and enjoy Scotch whisky in both professional and everyday settings.

The New York course builds on Edinburgh Whisky Academy’s long-standing relationship with Moët Hennessy USA. Together, the organisations previously developed “MH Whisky School”, a bespoke educational platform featuring a brand-focused version of the Certificate in Scotch Whisky, used internally for staff, trade partners and distributors.

Edinburgh Whisky Academy is also proud to announce that Dan Crowell, Glenmorangie Ambassador, US, has recently been approved by Qualifications Scotland to teach the Diploma in Single Malt Whisky. Crowell completed the EWA Advanced Diploma in 2025 and will support Vic Cameron during the New York delivery.

The Kentucky course marks the continuation of a relationship years in the making between Edinburgh Whisky Academy and Moonshine University. Located in the heart of Bourbon country, Moonshine University has become one of America’s most respected centres for distilling education and community-building.

Meanwhile, the London class at WSET School represents a significant milestone for the Academy. Long regarded as global leaders in wine and spirits education, WSET’s invitation to host the Diploma at its flagship London school reflects the growing recognition of Edinburgh Whisky Academy’s specialist approach to whisky education over the past decade.

The announcement follows a series of recent international partnerships and developments for the Academy, including collaboration with Napa Valley Wine Academy to offer the Certificate in Scotch Whisky, and a partnership with The Scotch Malt Whisky Society America, which now provides EWA candidates with a complimentary year’s membership to SMWS USA.

Edinburgh Whisky Academy has also continued to evolve the Diploma programme itself, most recently with the addition of whisky writer and expert Dave Broom’s new World Whiskies module, launched earlier this year within the Online Diploma in Single Malt Whisky.

The Academy has previously delivered successful Diploma programmes across the United States, including online courses in partnership with Lush Life Productions and Moët Hennessy USA for bartenders and hospitality professionals, alongside in-person classes at Kings County Distillery, the New Hampshire Highland Games, and Wizard Academy.

Kirsty McKerrow, Founder & Managing Director of Edinburgh Whisky Academy, said: “Over the last ten years, we’ve worked incredibly hard to build meaningful relationships across the whisky world and wider drinks industry, so announcing these three courses feels genuinely special for us.

“To teach at Moët Hennessy USA, Moonshine University and WSET School London in such quick succession is not only exciting, but also a real reflection of the trust, respect and shared passion that exists within the global whisky community.

“What matters most to us is creating whisky education that is engaging, credible and accessible, whether you’re discovering Scotch for the first time or working in the industry every day. Whisky is constantly changing and we believe whisky education should evolve alongside it.”

Places for all three Diploma in Single Malt Whisky dates are now available to book online.

Ever Dreamed of Owning a Distillery? – Witchburn News

After years of planning, dreaming, and building, the moment is nearly here. Construction at Witchburn Distillery is entering its final phase — the stills have arrived, the building work is underway, and distillation is set to begin within the next few months.

We’re proud to share that Witchburn is the first new distillery to be built in Campbeltown for many decades — a region with a whisky heritage that runs deep. Situated on the former NATO & US Navy SEALs base at RAF Machrihanish, Witchburn is designed to honour that heritage while looking firmly to the future.

One of our proudest achievements is what Witchburn won’t rely on: fossil fuels. We’ve installed an innovative electric-steam boiler that makes Witchburn one of the most sustainable distilleries in the world — and the first of its kind in the UK. With an annual production capacity of 2.7 million litres of pure alcohol, this isn’t a boutique experiment. It’s a serious, forward-thinking operation.

We’ve also designed Witchburn to give our whisky-makers real creative freedom. The distillery supports multiple distilling styles — including the recreation of traditional high-temperature distillation associated with direct-fire stills — and will produce unpeated, lightly peated, and heavily peated spirit from day one.

As we enter this final stretch before production begins, we’re inviting up to 20 individuals to join us as Founding Partners — people who don’t just want to invest in whisky, but want to be woven into the fabric of this distillery from the very start.

In return for a £300,000 commitment, each partner will receive:

  • A 1% equity stake in Witchburn Distillery, officially registered in the UK
  • An annual allocation of casks
  • Multiple cases of exclusive Founders bottlings — available only to shareholders
  • Invitations to private distillery events throughout the year
  • A permanent place on the Founders’ Wall at Witchburn

The option to sell your stake back to the distillery after five years for £400,000 — or remain a partner for the long term

“This is not simply an investment opportunity. It is a unique chance to become part of a distillery at the very moment it comes to life — to help shape its future, to share in its success, and to carry a piece of Campbeltown’s legacy forward.”

 Alex Springensguth, Co-Founder, Witchburn Distillery
