CASC Tasting Aberdeen Monday July 7th, 2014

I know, I know, you just got an note from us last week, but you can never get enough of a good thing! Besides this latest series definitely demands and deserves your attention…

We love all kinds of whisky here at TWL HQ. Be it from Scotland, Ireland, India, Japan, England, Taiwan, and so on. 

However, from time to time, we yearn for the fatherland of whisky!

What we are looking at in this series are some incredible quality single-cask, single malts from the fabulous ‘Single Malts of Scotland’ label from Speciality Drinks.

These are brand new bottlings, never before seen, and you will be among the first to taste them. Added to this a new venue in Brighton and our ‘tasting at home‘ pack, there’s plenty to get excited about!

Macallan 1948 Select Reserve

Firstly we have many legendary Macallans to showcase this month, including a magnificent bottle of Macallan distilled in 1948 and matured for over half a century until bottling on 26th November 1999.  Macallan decided to fill each bottle on a different day of the year; of the 366 bottles released, not one bottle carries the same bottling date as any other. Other notable legendary Macallans include the 1957 25 Year Old and numerous 30 year old and 25 year olds! 

It’s never all about Macallan, and to match their age there are a number of  very well aged Islay malts for your interest.  Ardbeg 30 Year Old, Lagavulin 25 Year Old and Laphroaig 30 Year Old.    

It’s all about age this month and we are also lucky to be auctioning a number of incredible old whiskies from Mortlach; a 1936 45 Year Old and Glenlivet; 1940 46 Year Old  

Lastly, we have some more recent bottlings including the Octomore 1965 Discovery limited to only 1,965 bottles, Ardbeg Kildalton 2014 and a rare 1987 Single Cask Glenfiddich 125^th Anniversary.

On Thursday 26th June we are joined by Sam Macdonald who will be presenting (and we will be tasting) the fantastic whiskies from the Teeling Whiskey Company. After successfully managing the popular Cooley Distillery, the Teeling Family sold-up to Jim Beam and struck out to found their own distillery in Dublin – once the distilling capital of Ireland.

Whilst Teeling have yet to produce their own whiskey that has been distilled on-site, they have been bottling a selection of grain, blended and single malt whiskies from stock they retained from Cooley.

On the 26th we will be sampling their delicious rum-finished Irish blend, their stunning grain whiskey, plus some other treats, and maybe even a Poitin (essentially Irish moonshine)!

The event is scheduled to be in the Maple Room, above the Sticky Wicket Pub, entrance on Courtenay Street. But please check in the Store on the day.

Price: $35 each for Members & Partners, $45 for Non-Members/Guests

1. Space is strictly limited, so you must register in advance. Guests are welcome, but we now have to restrict it to one guest per member. Members will always have priority.

In a totally un-cynical attempt to cash-in on another annual non-event (I can say this as I’m a father too!), we have a number of things that might tickle your father’s fancy, or tastebuds. Forget the usual aftershave, CDs and power tools – give him something that he will actually like and thank you for!

So here are our ideas for you and dad…

WHISKY SCHOOLS

The perfect day out for dad!
For a whole day (from 10am to 4pm) your dad (or you!) can learn all the basics of whisky production and what it all means.

There are ‘modules’ on world whiskies, styles and regions of Scotland, wood maturation and even a chance to blend your own whisky and take a miniature home with you. Plus the small matter of over 25 whiskies to sample…

We have schools happening in Newcastle, Manchester, York, Harrogate and London – click here or on the banner for more info on dates and prices. Ticket price also includes a lovely 2-course lunch at the venue.

Our summer tasting series is an extremely exciting one, with a fantastic line-up of 6 single cask, cask-strength single malts from this fabulous bottler. If you (and dad, obviously) like your whiskies pure and profound, then this is the one for you. You will be tasting a range of styles and with the minimum age of whiskies being 18 years old – this is a real rare treat indeed.
