The Glenlivet “A Day at The Distillery” – Spirit of Speyside – Scotch Whisky News

AA Glenlivet 1

A Day at The Distillery

Visiting The Glenlivet distillery during Speyside whisky festival is quite an experience. Tasting the spirit and seeing photographs of the landscape beforehand, you build up your own picture: remote warehouses nestling into the surrounding hillside, the unmistakable smell of malt, the hum of the mash tun. All of which is true, but in reality there’s so much more – the welcoming hospitality, the sense of history, slick modern industry.

The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival has been drawing whisky fans from around the world to the distilleries of the Scottish highlands since 1999. Over six days, whisky-themed events take place across the region encouraging visitors to celebrate Scotland’s national drink in a variety of fun and informative ways.

The Glenlivet has been involved with the Spirit of Speyside Festival since its inception, and the sense of celebration at the distillery is palpable. The place is buzzing as visitors enjoy live music, whisky tastings, demonstrations and tours laid on specially. Key members of the distillery team mingle with visitors, happily sharing stories and whisky wisdom. The festival is a wonderful opportunity to get to the heart of the single malt that started it all.

Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky Munro Challenge – Calling all budding Munro Baggers! – Scotch Whisky News

AA IOS1

Calling all budding Munro Baggers!

This year, we’re once again running the Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky Munro Challenge in partnership with outdoor specialist, Tiso. We’re aiming to raise as much money as possible through sponsorship for Scottish Mountain Rescue by encouraging Scots to climb one or more of Scotland’s Munros throughout the month of September 2015.

Last year, the Munro Challenge raised over £21,000 for the critically deserving charity and these funds are currently helping with the provision of SARDA search and rescue dogs, avalanche training and specialised rescue equipment.

We’re inviting you to fly the flag for Scottish Mountain Rescue this September! Sign up here and we’ll send you a registration pack, including an Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky flag for you to fly at the summit of your Munro. Share you ‘summit selfies’ to our Facebook or Twitter pages in September for your chance to win a bottle of our award-winning 8yo blend.

Keep watching our Facebook and Twitter pages for outdoor safety tips, kit advice and Munro recommendations from Scottish Mountain Rescue and Tiso between now and challenge month in September.

We can’t wait to hear about all your Munro experiences on the way!

Nikka Japanese Whisky Tasting at Arkwrights – Japanese Whisky News

arkwrights_still

Our next whisky tasting will be on Wednesday 24th June and this time round you will have the opportunity to sample six excellent and diverse Japanese whiskies from the Nikka range, presented by Phil Nickson of Speciality Brands.

Set up by Masataka Taketsuru, the founding father of Japanese whisky, Nikka own both the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries and these provide two different styles of whisky that are bottled not only as single malts but also in combination as vatted malts and in blends.  Miyagikyo distillery was designed to produce light, elegant, fruity and floral whiskies whereas Yoichi (which continues to operates traditional coal fired stills) produces a distinct rich, smoky, spicy and oily whisky.  We will taste both of these on the night along with two pure malts (i.e. vatted) which, because they contain varying proportions of the two single malts, have very different characteristics.  There will also be the fruity, zesty Coffey Grain to sample and the rich and robust Nikka from the Barrel blend.

The rapidly growing popularity of Japanese whiskies means that tickets for this event will go very quickly so make sure you don’t delay in booking yours!  If you do miss out on getting tickets then please contact us to register your interest as there is a possibility that we may be able to run a second night of this tasting.

Please note Tickets for the Nikka whisky tasting will be available to buy from 12 noon on Thursday 21st May and no bookings will be taken before this time.  The maximum number of people per booking is 6.

See below for all the details and if you have any queries just contact us.

Cheers from World Whisky Day! – World Whisky News

WWD logo

Hello there!

Now that World Whisky Day 2015 is behind us I’d like to thank you on behalf of the whole team for your effort. This year we had a record number of events take place in more countries than ever before, and on, for the first time ever, all seven continents. The success of the day is all down to people like you running events big and small, so here’s to you for making such a good one.

Head over to http://worldwhiskyday.com/blog where you can read our report from the day. More importantly, though, I’d love to hear from you and learn about your own experiences on the day, so please do get back in touch with any comments, reports, pictures, reviews etc.

World Whisky Day 2016 is being held on Saturday 21 May, so be sure to keep the date in your diary. It’d be incredible to think that you could join us again for some more of the good stuff. What’s more, you don’t even have to wait another 365 days to get involve; our vision for World Whisky Day is to create an entire culture surrounding it throughout the year, and as part of this we have recently starting producing a weekly mail-out called Whisky Wednesday. If you’ve not done so already, visit http://worldwhiskyday.com/email where you can read the previous issues and sign-up for free.

Cant wait to welcome you on-board for some more adventures in the world of whisky.

All the best,

Malcolm Triggs
