Burns Night at Milroy’s

Burns Night is usually one of the most raucous nights of the year at Milroy’s, but sadly this year, owing to unprecedented circumstances, will have to be a little different.

Burns Night is a celebration of the Scottish poet, with the first Burns supper being held in 1801. Traditionally the evening is a heady mix of bagpipes, haggis with neeps and tatties and of course whisky.

Unfortunately we will be unable to provide the full works (bagpipes don’t ship well), however if there is one thing we have mastered this year, it is getting good whisky into your homes.

Join us as we move our celebration of Robert Burns online with a virtual tasting, hosted by our very own Simo and the wonderful Andrea Montague from Bacardi. We will also joined by a real life Scotsman, our regular Haggis blesser and friend of Milroy’s – Charlie Graham.

It’s the new year and we’re back with a whole new program of virtual tastings and more. We’re kicking things off with a pair of events you won’t want to miss…

We’re not stopping at just our tastings program – our shows are all going virtual. We’ll still be having a physical show where we can, but they’ll all have at least some virtual element for you to join in with if you can’t make it in person.

GET FIRED UP FOR A JOYOUS CELEBRATION

It’s Burns Night on the 25th January – an unmissable date in the whisky calendar. And while it’s tempting to think of it as an antiquated affair, that’s not how we see it. In his day, Robert Burns was a radical poet, so we want to honour him by doing things differently.

We’ve teamed up with British chef, restaurateur and food writer Stevie Parle from JOY in London to inspire you to mark the event with something a little more experimental. He’s designed a special ‘Not a Burns Night Burns Night’ menu of langoustines, pot-roast venison and a whisky-infused walnut cake, all designed to pair wonderfully with Hedonism, The Story of the Spaniard and The Spice Tree.

If you’re London-based, you can order the meal to enjoy at home here. But if you’re further afield, why not take some inspiration from Stevie and get creative in your own kitchen to mark the celebrations on the 25th? And if you’re looking for a cocktail to kick off proceedings, we recommend The Unholy Alliance. Of course, wherever you are, you can always shop for our whiskies here.

Whatever you choose, let’s celebrate Burns Night the Compass Box way. And above all, share and enjoy!

PS: Tradition calls for a reading of poetry by Robert himself on the night. If that’s part of your plans, we’d also recommend adding something from Brian Bilston to your list as well. His words are a genuinely delightful reflection on life in the current times.

The Whisky Exchange plans to keep whisky lovers entertained this Burn’s Night with an interactive virtual whisky quiz using Speed Quizzing software held on Zoom at 6 30pm 25 January.

Hosted by resident whisky whiz and Whisky Exchange ambassador, Billy Abbott, and all round-spirits buff and head buyer at The Whisky Exchange, Dawn Davies MW. Prizes include Whisky Show tickets (worth over £200), special bottlings and a Robert Burns Gift Pack donated by Arran.
