Glengoyne Distillery “Enjoy music? Time to press play” – Scotch Whisky News

Time for Music

If you are in the mood for some music this World Music Day (June 21st ~ apologies for the late publication ~ WI), take inspiration from our Glengoyne colleagues. Together, we have compiled a playlist consisting of our go to songs to accompany a dram of Glengoyne.

From the psychedelic sounds of Pink Floyd to the mellow tones of Billie Holiday, we think there’s something for everyone – just like our whisky.

Maltstock is on! – Maltstock News

We have some very relaxed news for you: Maltstock 2021 is on!

Last year we obviously could not do Maltstock. You have very relaxed kept your ticket for this year. Safe and relaxed!

And we still have some tickets available in our webshop: https://www.maltstock.com/shop

The safety of our crew and our guests is our number one priority. We will only host Maltstock if we can do it in a safe and relaxed way. And of course, it’s also important we can have a normal Maltstock. So no social distancing rules and a very relaxed program. We have a green light for both now! We are really looking forward to seeing you all again in September!

How will this be safe and relaxed?

With the current regulations in place regarding covid-19 in the Netherlands we can make sure we can provide a safe and relaxed Maltstock. We can create a safe, relaxed bubble. This means EVERYBODY on the Maltstock premisses will have to be either vaccinated or have had a recent negative covid test. Nobody will be allowed on the premisses if they can’t show either one of these. And with nobody we mean absolutely nobody. No exceptions. The safety of our crew and guests is our number one priority.

How does it work?

If you have been vaccinated, you can simply register it in the Corona check app. When you arrive at Maltstock you will have to to show the Corona check app.

If you not have had your vaccination yet you can get tested before you arrive at Maltstock. If you get negative result you can enter it in the corona app.

More information, in Dutch and English, look here: https://www.testenvoortoegang.org

Please note this is how the current regulations work. Of course we will keep you updated if anything changes.

We are so looking forward to share a few drams and stories with you all. That’s what Maltstock is all about. Meeting old and new friends, in a very relaxed way. Over the next few weeks we will be working on a very relaxed program. We will keep you updated through our newsletters and of course our Facebook page (you’ll probably will see a slight increase in our postings over the next few weeks…).

Maltstock 2021 tickets

Almost everyone who had already bought a ticket for last year’s edition has kept it for this year. But fear not, we still have a few more tickets available. You can get yours and be relaxed again now in our webshop: https://www.maltstock.com/shop

In a very unlikely worst case scenario where we would have to postpone Maltstock once again, your ticket will remain valid for a future edition. Because of the corona app, which helps to make sure everyone is safe, events are not likely to be cancelled anytime soon though.

I know I’m repeating myself, but we will only host Maltstock is we can do it in a safe and relaxed way!

Maltstock 20201 is 10 – 12 September

If you have any questions, please just contact us. See you all in September!

Stay healthy stay relaxed!

The Whisky Show “First Releases Masterclass Now On Sale” – Scotch Whisky News

On sale now

First Releases: Torabhaig, Dornoch Distillery and Ardnamurchan

Scotland is seeing a boom in new distilleries and the first of the new wave have recently come of age and started to bottle whisky. In this session we’ll be chatting with the people behind three of the most anticipated distilleries in Scotland, and tasting not only their sold-out first releases, but also something special they’ve found just for us.

First Releases Masterclass
Host: Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange ambassador
Sunday 3 October
12:30pm-1.30pm
£55

In this masterclass we’ll be tasting whiskies from these three distilleries:

Torabhaig: the second-ever legal distillery to be built on the Isle of Skye, its first release flew off the shelves when it finally landed in early 2021. This is a rare chance to try not only that first sold-out release, but also a specially selected cask sample to see what’s coming next.

Dornoch Distillery: the Thompson brothers are well known in the whisky world for their curation of the excellent Dornoch Castle Hotel whisky bar, and their distillery is hidden at the back of the hotel in an old fire station. They’re focused on old-fashioned whisky made slowly and with the finest ingredients. We’ll be trying their first release – from the first cask they ever filled – as well as something special from the warehouse.

Ardnamurchan: Adelphi have been known for independently bottling some of Scotland’s finest whiskies for decades, but after years of planning and waiting they have now started bottling their own. Hiding on the remote Ardnamurchan peninsula, the eponymous distillery is already turning heads with its early releases, and we’ll be trying the inaugural bottling. Along with that, they’ll also be bringing something special to show us what’s in store.

Malt Messenger Bulletin – July 3, 2021 – A New Tasting, A New KWM Cask & Canada Day Deals! – Whisky News!

 Kensington Wine Market’s Whisk(e)y Newsletter

Happy Belated Canada Day!

It’s about this time of year that when we all let ourselves feel a little more patriotic. At KWM we stand a little taller and wave our pride a little higher, and of course increase the spotlight on Canadian-made Wines, Whiskies, Beers, and other spirits.

We have been reminded over the last few weeks that our nation’s history has its share of blemishes. There is much still to be learned, and work done redressing past wrongs, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still be proud to live in a country willing to confront these challenges and learn from its mistakes.

Now through the end of the weekend (midnight July 4), all Canadian Wines and most Canadian Whiskies are on sale. There are some very good deals to be had, on products we can all feel proud of!

Browse the sale page showing everything on sale!

Or… download a PDF with all the deals by clicking on this text! I’ve included the Canadian wines on Sale through July 4 and the current Whisky Bin End Deals.

Turning our eyes to the new and noteworthy, our 2nd Teeling Cask, a 15-year-old single malt finished in an ex-Armagnac cask, has at long last arrived… We have only been talking about this beauty since February, but as I’ve said before, shipping is not exactly predictable at present!

But it’s here, and it is another tropical fruit bomb, this time with a kick of spice!

We have also just added a new tasting to the schedule:

Stumbling Blindly into Some Exciting New Whiskies, on July 29. We wanted to add one more tasting to the July schedule before we take our August break from tastings. It boils down to two things. Firstly, we’ve had a lot of requests for a blind tasting. And secondly, I saw some things I want to try, and I didn’t want to push them off until the Fall… they might not be here that long.

We are also expecting a new release from our friends at Yukon Brewing & Distilling next week: the Two Brewers Yukon Single Malt Release 26. And at long last, we’ve had a top-up from Tamdhu & Glengoyne Distilleries.

Everything in this newsletter can be ordered/purchased online, so please try to do that if you can. If you email me rather than order online, you might miss out on something. It may not often seem like it, but I do have a life outside of work (refer to above photo)… your order might come in while I’m on my mountain bike or out SUPing!

As always, in the event of a price discrepancy, the point of sale at KWM will be taken as correct. Please don’t hesitate to email me with any questions or comments. But be patient, even if I am at the shop, I may be head down, working on our new website, which will be launching next month.

Sincerely,

Andrew Ferguson

IN THIS EDITION

1. Introducing: The Teeling 15 Year KWM Armagnac Cask

2. New Tasting: Stumbly Blindly into Some Exciting New Whiskies

3. New From Two Brewers: Single Malt Release #26 – Classic

4. The Glengoynes & Tamdhus Are Back!

INTRODUCING:

THE TEELING 15 YEAR KWM ARMAGNAC CASK

Our second exclusive single cask from Teeling is a 15-year-old, finished in an Armagnac cask (#16570), and it has just arrived! We’re huge fans of Teeling, and feel they are one of the most compelling whiskey makers in Ireland. The juice from this beauty won’t have been distilled at Jack and Stephen Teeling’s distillery in Dublin’s Liberties, but rather at their father John’s old Cooley Distillery. Cooley was sold to Beam Suntory in 2011, but as part of the sale, the Teelings walked away with a good chunk of the maturing inventory… including the juice in this bottle!

Teeling 15 Year KWM Armagnac Cask 16570 – 58.4% – Finished in an Armagnac Cask – My Tasting Note: “Nose: thick, decadent and fruity with a backbone of oak spices; doughy with dried apricots, honeydew melon, and bright citrus; marzipan and buttery toasted oak make way for cinnamon, fennel, and clove. Palate: Bright, fruity, and decadent with a firm but yielding backbone of spice; licorice root and cinnamon sticks; still doughy, almond paste croissants and chocolate-orange marzipan; very fruity, green mangoes, dried apricot and melons galore; some jammy strawberry and quince paste; warming, coating and rich. Finish: long and coating with decadent buttery oak tones, exotic fruits, and crisp spices. Comment: this is another fine example of why we love Teeling Whiskey; the Armagnac cask finish has kicked up the spice when compared with our last cask, but the fruits… oh the fruits… they are still there, and in abundance!” – $150

NEW TASTING

Stumbling Blindly Into Some Exciting New Whiskies

·     Date: Thursday, July 29

·     Time: 8 PM

·     Cost: $40

·     Pick-Up Date: Available Now

Andrew couldn’t help himself… he saw a few new arrivals and, wanting to taste them himself, threw together a wee lineup. Also, and this is an important point, he wanted the tasting to be blind. Our range is, as usual, 7 whiskies deep, all of them single malts, stretching up to 27 years of age! They range in style from light and floral, to big and spicy, to almost over-the-top peated. We’d really like to tell you what the whiskies are – as we know it would whet your appetite even more! – but then it wouldn’t be a blind tasting, would it? 8 PM Thursday, July 29. 7x50ml samples

NEW FROM TWO BREWERS:

RELEASE #26 CLASSIC

Is it a coincidence that we are hosting a Two Brewers tasting with owner Bob Baxter tonight? Absolutely, yes!

Release #26, a classic expression, was made from a blend of malts, three different mashes, and was aged in first and second fill ex-Bourbon as well as ex-Brandy casks. 71% of the whisky was matured 6 years and the balance 7 years, before blending and bottling.

Two Brewers Yukon Single Malt Release 26 – 46% – ex-Bourbon & Brandy Casks – Producer Tasting Note: “Bright meadow tones are braced with fresh cedar, oak, and hints of treacle. An elegant malt profile swells from entry, pinches of oak and spices dusting the edges are whisked in, shrouding the palate in a gently satisfying linger of sweet malted milk.” – $105

*UPCOMING RELEASE* Sullivans Cove Double Cask Whisky DC110 – Tasmanian Whisky News

Double Cask DC110 Single Malt Whisky

We are pleased to announce that our latest edition of Double Cask Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky will be released on Monday 5th of July, 2021.

Our Double Cask series offers our team the opportunity to draw on a breathtaking array of casks to create whiskies of great character and complexity. Double Cask batch DC110 is a marriage of selections from ten casks, including whisky from American and French oak casks which have previously been used to mature Tawny, Bourbon, white wine and red wine, with ages ranging from 7 to 20 years old.

DC110 is the first Double Cask release to be bottled at a variable alcohol by volume percentage (ABV%). This brings the Double Cask series into line with how we bottle our single cask releases and allows us to choose the ABV% that brings out the best in the whisky. For DC110, that was 46.9%.

“The higher ABV% has really brought out the deeper chocolately vibes so quintessentially Sullivans, while retaining the malt-fruit-brine fundamentals of the distillery. Great depth of aroma and a very enticing flavour profile.”

Heather Tillott, Head Distiller

Tasting Notes

Great body and rolling texture. Loads of biscuitty malt, a jammy wave (dark berries!) swirls with a herbal wave, like vine leaves. Incredibly fudgy, chocolate flavoured. Part way through there’s a change toward the fruit: peaches, mango, apricot, and then ruby grapefruit juice.

Full tasting notes and cask details can be found on the product page via this link.

These whiskies will be released via ballot.
The ballot will open for 24 hours from 11am Hobart time on Monday 5th of July, 2021. Further details will be sent prior to the ballot opening.

A note on our ballot system.
Our policy is one bottle, per person, per household. Our fraud detection algorithm detects multiple entries and removes them to ensure our whisky lands in the hands of our genuine supporters, so to ensure your entry counts, please enter once only. If you have any questions around our ballot process, you can email us at info@sullivanscove.com
Successful entries will be notified shortly after the ballot closes.
