Two of Sazerac’s Global Brands – Southern Comfort and Paddy’s Irish Whiskey Earn High Praise from 2021 Ultimate Spirits Challenge – Whiskey News

Two of Sazerac’s Global Brands – Southern Comfort and Paddy’s Irish Whiskey Earn High Praise from 2021 Ultimate Spirits Challenge

NEW ORLEANS, lA.  (Aug. 12, 2021) – The Sazerac Company is pleased to announce that its Southern Comfort and Paddy’s Irish Whiskey brands have received stellar rankings from the 2021 Ultimate Spirits Challenge.

Paddy’s Irish Whiskey earned an award rating of 90 signifying a “Excellent, Highly Recommended” standard. Judges cited the blend’s aromas of malt and cereal grains with touch of creamy and toasty finish in their decision. Southern Comfort also received high praise with a “Very Good, Strong Recommendation” award rating for its Black and Original whiskeys, each receiving an 89 and 86 respectively. Black was commended for its medium-bodied and rich taste while Original was recognized for its sweet spice and refreshing flavor.

“We look forward to participating in the Ultimate Spirits Challenge year after year because of their accurate and reliable results. We hope that their high regards for our Southern Comfort Original, Southern Comfort Black and Paddy’s Irish Whiskey products will excite new and existing consumers to try the liquids anyway and anywhere they like – from their next outdoor adventure to their at-home bar,” said Tiffany Wilburn, brand director at Sazerac Company, Inc.

The Ultimate Spirits Challenge seeks to identify the highest rated products across the spirits industry through a rigorous judging process where each product is reviewed under ideal tasting conditions. The process allows for each product to express its best characteristics in a realistic setting. Products are evaluated by the most respected and experienced authorities in the industry through blind panels in multi-stage assessments to remove any inherent or individual bias.

About Southern Comfort

Southern Comfort was created in 1874 by M.W. Heron, a man born to do things his own way. His innovative recipe, blending stone fruit and spices with the harsh whiskeys of his time, created an iconic American taste. Nearly 150 years later, Southern Comfort is as one-of-a-kind as ever and enjoyed around the world. Satisfying on its own. Ideal in any mix. This is whiskey on its own terms. Made to be enjoyed on yours. For more information, visit southerncomfort.com, or follow via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

About Paddy’s Irish Whiskey

Paddy’s Irish Whiskey is an approachable, triple-distilled blend of grain, malt and pot-still, Paddy’s is mild and yet crisp, with a hint of honey. Paddy’s is the perfect session spirit for gathering ‘round for good times with friends. Triple-distilled from the finest barley and water from County Cork’s Irish countryside, Paddy’s matures for years in three types of oaken casks, acquiring its distinctively rich and golden color in dark, aromatic warehouses before being shipped directly from Ireland. SIX WHISKIES FROM SAZERAC COMPANY RECOGNIZED AT 2021 ULTIMATE SPIRITS CHALLENGE – Canadian Whisky News

SIX WHISKIES FROM SAZERAC COMPANY RECOGNIZED AT 2021 ULTIMATE SPIRITS CHALLENGE

Collingwood and Mister Sam Tribute Whiskey Finalists for Chairman’s Trophy

Montreal (Aug. 11, 2021) – Judges at the 2021 Ultimate Spirits Challenge (USC) named Collingwood Blended Canadian Whisky and Mister Sam Tribute Whiskey as finalists for the Chairman’s Trophy, an award bestowed to the highest scoring entry in each category. Both products were listed as “Excellent, Highly Recommended” during judging, which was held throughout May and June. Collingwood Whisky also received the Great Value Award, which highlights a favorable relationship between a product’s suggested retail price and its final score. Four other Canadian whiskies also received accolades in this year’s competition with a record-breaking number of entries.

Excellent, Highly Recommended

  • Caribou Crossing Single Barrel Canadian Whisky
  • Collingwood Blended Canadian Whisky
  • Mister Sam Tribute Whiskey

Very Good, Strong Recommendation

  • Royal Canadian Small Batch Blended Whisky

Good, Recommended

  • Canadian Mist Blended Canadian Whisky
  • High River Canadian Whisky

The highly rated Mister Sam Tribute Whiskey is a blend of Sazerac’s top-quality Canadian and American Whiskeys and was introduced as a limited-edition blended whiskey in 2019. The “Mister Sam” name was chosen to honor the legendary Sam Bronfman who is widely known as the founder of the modern-day distilled spirits industry. Collingwood Whisky is uniquely crafted at the Collingwood Distillery in Ontario. Collingwood is the only Canadian whisky to take the extra step of resting its mature blends with toasted maplewood staves before bottling to bring a new dimension of flavor to the product.

Each USC entry was rated after review by multiple panels comprised of the spirits industry’s most renowned judges. This year’s judges included buyers, journalists, educators, and bar owners. Malt Messenger Bulletin – Now Taking Orders for the KWM 2021 Whisky Calendar! – Whisky News

Kensington Wine Market’s

Whisk(e)y E-Newsletter

Happy September. I hope you had a wonderful summer, and that this finds you and yours well!

The last few months have been a very busy time here at KWM. We have been hard at work getting our new website ready to launch, which finally went live last week. In addition to a new, modern look, it is also more streamlined and even more secure. We also now have the ability to add content for Distilleries, Independent Bottlers, and Wineries to product descriptions. We are really excited about it and hope you love it as much as we do.

Though it is up and running, it is still far from complete. Who would have thought it would take so long to re-photograph more than 4000 products and update all their descriptions… We are also still finding and working out bugs as we go. Thank you for your continued patience while we continue to polish it up!

While the weather is still fine, at least in this part of the woods, there is that unmistakable chill in the air which is a reminder that there are cooler months ahead. Whether you like it or not, winter is coming…

Truth be told, I love winter in Calgary. Sure it can get cold, but if you accept and embrace it there is much to love. Skiing, skating, snowshoeing, fat biking, and sitting by the fire enjoying a good book or sharing drams with friends. December may be the darkest and one of the coldest months of the year, but it also gives us Christmas, Hanukah, Festivus, New Year’s, and Whisky Advent to look forward to… which brings me to the reason I’m writing you today.

We are now taking pre-orders for the KWM 2021 Whisky Calendar.

This is our 8th year producing a Whisky Calendar, and as with last year, we are offering you two different options for securing one. The full price of the 2021 Calendar is $435+gst, which is a reflection of some of the whiskies we are offering in this year’s edition, but also the reality of increasing costs and global supply constraints. The good news is, we are balancing this with our most generous early bird offer ever.

If you select the Pre-Pay Early Bird offer, you can purchase the KWM 2021 Whisky Calendar for $375+gst, a savings of $60! Or if you’d rather pay later, you can select the Pre-Order Pay Later (full price) option. More details on the KWM 2021 Whisky Calendar can be found below.

One other thing to look forward to in the cooler months ahead… Whisky Tastings! We still have room in some of our September and October virtual Whisk(e)y Tastings, which you can browse below or on our online tasting schedule. We will be adding some November tastings to the schedule in the weeks ahead.

We will have a full Malt Messenger out with news on some exciting new releases next week. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this Malt Messenger Bulletin.

As always, in the event of a discrepancy in price, the point of sale at KWM will be taken as correct. Please don’t hesitate to email me with any questions, comments, or requests.

Sincerely,

Andrew Ferguson

NOW TAKING ORDERS

for the

KWM 2021 Whisky Calendar

The design of the KWM 2021 Whisky Calendar will be revealed in late September!

The KWM Whisky Calendar, aka “25 Days of Dram Fine Whisky”, is back for the 8th straight year. Once again the calendar will have a fresh new look, which we will reveal in late September. This year’s calendar includes 24 50ml premium whiskies, a custom logo Glencairn glass, and a 100ml Scotch Malt Whisky Society whisky for Christmas Day. You can follow along on the KWM Blog starting December 1, or one of our various social media channels as we introduce and discuss each day’s whisky. And there is more…

Last year, inspired by Covid and the rise of Zoom events, we held 5 Whisky Calendar Recap Tastings throughout the month of December. They were such a big hit, that we knew we’d have to bring them back again this year. Accordingly, we will hold tastings for participants on December 5, 10, 15, 20, and after Christmas on 29th. Each of them will cover the 5 prior day’s whiskies in the Calendar.

The whiskies this year include 3 KWM exclusive casks, a number of whiskies in their 20s, and more than a dozen distilleries and producers never before featured in any of our prior Whisky Calendars. We also worked hard to keep the pricing as reasonable as we possibly could this year, which wasn’t easy. Prices have been rising across the board, and supply chain issues have affected everything from the availability of glass and cardboard to delays in shipping and bottling. Never the less we are confident that we have put together another amazing product this year, and we know you are going to love it!

Best of all, if you select the pre-pay preorder option, you will save $60. This option was very popular last year, and completely sold out 2020’s original production in just 2 weeks!

We anticipate the KWM 2021 Whisky Advent Calendars should be ready for pick up in early November. That is, as long as everything goes as planned… which in the Covid Era you can never be 100% sure of. But we’ve planned accordingly and ordered early from all of our suppliers!

Two Options to Order the KWM 2021 Whisky Calendar

1. Pre-Pay Early Bird Special Offer – Select this option if you wish to save $60 on the regular price of $435, by prepaying now in full (please note this cannot be combined with other offers or discounts). You will be charged $375+gst when we receive your order.

2. Pay Later Pre-OrderIf you want to reserve a KWM 2021 Whisky Calendar and pay the full price of $435+gst later, please select this option to submit your order, and you will not be charged until a few days before it is ready for pick-up.

For this tasting, Evan will select and talk about samples of wine while Abi will take charge on the whisky side, choosing three samples as well. Worlds will collide on this wine and whisky tasting. Which choices will come on top?

Included in the tasting kit:

– 3x 1.7 oz / 50 ml samples of wine

– 3x 0.5 oz / 15 ml samples of whisky

– A few small Halloween-themed snacks for pairing.

This offers enough of a sample size for all the singles out there. Those of you making a date night out of it might want to purchase two kits.

*Because the wine is a bit more perishable than the whisky, we will not be pouring it into sample bottles until the day of the tasting. Samples will not be ready for pickup until the day of the tasting*

Empire Rye Batch 1, 2 Year Old , 50%

A world premiere with our first batch of Blended Empire Rye! This is a 2 Year Old, a release of just 623 bottles at 50% abv.  In 2015, six leading New York State distilleries banded together to create a consortium dedicated to establishing a whiskey style for the Empire State. This whiskey was to be as distinctive, precisely crafted, and held to as high a standard as any of the illustrious whiskey styles in the world. Empire Rye was born–an homage to New York State’s pre-Prohibition rye whiskey-making heritage and a testament to the ingenuity and industriousness of its contemporary distillers. Each distiller’s bottling of Empire Rye is crafted in accordance with the same exacting specifications and yet each is given ample space to express their creativity. It’s aim is to make the category of Empire Rye known throughout the world. This blend consists of 9 distilleries. All of them from New York State, and all of them specifically Empire Rye. Nobody has ever blended a selection of Empire Rye before, so what an opportunity to herd nine distilleries, arguably competitors, to unite and promote their Standard of Identity! We’re very proud that we were able to get these nine distilleries to work with us, allowing us to bring you this first ever Blended Empire Rye. This flight includes a a 15ml measure of all 9 Ryes + a 30ml dram of the Empire Rye Batch 1.

Sullivans Cove *UPCOMING RELEASE* Two American Oak Second Fill Single Cask Whiskies – Tasmanian Whisky News

Two American Oak Second Fill
Single Cask Whiskies
TD0059 & TD0198

Our next release will be a pair of American oak second fill single cask whiskies, TD0059 & TD0198. Admired for their softer cask presence, second fill casks allow more of the spirit and character of the distillery to shine. For Sullivans Cove, it’s the tropical fruits and biscuity malt flavours that come to the fore, creating balanced, complex and moreish whiskies.

Both whiskies will be available to purchase via ballot on Tuesday 7th of September.  A further note will be sent on Tuesday 11:00am Hobart time with a link to enter the ballot (Visit our website to be added to our email list!).

American Oak Second Fill TD0059

“This is an absolute CRACKER. Just delightful. It glides through the nose and across the palate effortlessly (channeling some strong Tao Te Ching vibes in its effortless living). It’s full, present in itself (doesn’t come and go), delicious and good for the soul.”
– Heather Tillott, Distillery Manager

TD0059 was matured for 15 years and 5 months in a single, 300L American oak cask previously used to mature one of our American Oak whisky releases. It yielded just 414 bottles.

American Oak Second Fill TD0198

“Excellent complexity and narrative. Transitions are spot on. A lovely chocolaty expression of malt!”
– Heather Tillott, Distillery Manager

TD0198 was matured for 13 years and 8 months in a single, 300L American oak cask, yielding only 424 bottles. The cask had previously been used to mature one of our American Oak ex-Tawny releases.
