The Distillers One of One® Auction unveils final 15 lots from its Associate Donors

The 39 ultra-rare lots will be heading to Hopetoun House for the Distillers One of One Charity Auction on Friday 10^th October.

From 19^th to 30^th September, the majority of The Distillers One of One lots will be on display in London – 

a unique opportunity to experience the exceptional craftsmanship and artistry behind the auction lots.

LONDON, 18^th September 2025 – Less than one month away from the Auction, The Distillers One of One® is unveiling the last set of ultra rare lots set to be auctioned on Friday, 10^th October 2025 at the historic Hopetoun House near Edinburgh, in collaboration with Sotheby’s. The final reveal of 15 further beautiful lots comes as online bidding is officially open now on the Sotheby’s website.

Since its inaugural event in 2021, The Distillers One of One has grown to become the world’s largest charity auction dedicated to rare Scotch whisky, with 100% of hammer proceeds donated to charitable causes. Through the remarkable generosity of its donors and collectors across the globe, the auctions have raised £4.3 million to date, with the majority directed to the Youth Action Fund. Established in early 2022 following the first auction, the Fund supports disadvantaged young people across Scotland to unlock their potential and contribute positively to their communities.  This funding has already helped engage 3,362 young people and deliver 2,271 employability outcomes. The Associate Donors

Among the 35 companies participating in the auction this year are 15 “Associate” donor brands, who are revealing their unique lots today. 

Adelphi Distillery Ltd proudly presents The Adelphi Archive: a singular 29-Year-Old Single Malt from the now-lost Imperial Distillery. Distilled on 24^th April 1996 and aged in a re-fill bourbon barrel for nearly three decades, this unrepeatable expression carries the rare elegance for which Imperial was revered. At 53.8% ABV, it delivers bright citrus and sweet patisserie on the nose, with a silken palate of warming depth and a long, lingering finish. Housed in a Glencairn crystal decanter, the whisky is presented upon a bespoke walnut pedestal, meticulously crafted over 35 hours by Mike Buckley, incorporating an authentic bolt from Imperial’s original barley dresser. With artwork by Nevis Design and Labeltec’s generous print support, this lot embodies history, craft, and provenance. A unique whisky treasure, preserving the legacy of a distillery that will never return.

Arbikie Distilling Ltd is donating an extraordinary cask of Highland Rye – a 100% Malted Barley Single Grain Scotch Whisky, distilled from the estate’s own Odyssey barley, grown in the Blue Bear field and filled on 14th November 2018. Cask 4-C, matured in a 200L ex-Bourbon cask, reflects Arbikie’s pioneering field-to-bottle ethos and commitment to sustainability. Though crafted entirely from malted barley, its classification as a single grain arises from distillation in a copper batch column still – a technicality that belies the spirit’s true nature. Here, the richness and complexity of malted barley meet the refined smoothness of column distillation, delivering a whisky both innovative and authentic. Rooted in the soils of Scotland’s east coast, this rare expression embodies terroir, heritage, and craftsmanship in equal measure. John Stirling, Director of Arbikie Highland Estate Distillery, says: “At Arbikie, we believe great spirits should do good. Donating to One of One allows us to support meaningful change while sharing our story of sustainability, provenance, and innovation.”

The Artisanal Spirits Company plc presents Artisan Casks Ancient Alba ‘AON’ 52-year-old: a remarkable Blended Grain Scotch Whisky, and the very first release from the new Artisan Casks programme. Distilled in 1972 and matured for over half a century in a refill American oak bourbon barrel, this rare expression is bottled in a magnum-sized 150cl vessel, proudly carrying the official livery of Artisan Casks and distinguished by its Gaelic name ‘AON’, meaning “one”. More than a whisky, this lot is an introduction to the future of Artisan Casks: combining history, artistry and innovation. The successful bidder, joined by three guests, will also be invited to The Vaults in Leith, Edinburgh – the spiritual home of Artisan Casks – for a private tasting and dining experience, with the opportunity to sample AON without opening the magnum itself. As James Mackay, Private Client & Commercial Director, observes: “The chance to acquire the first ever bottle from the first ever cask is truly a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the rare whisky collector.”

Coachbuilt Spirits Ltd, in collaboration with RESS Jewellery Ltd, has created Coachbuilt FW07: a 50-Year-Old Blended Scotch Whisky, distilled in 1973, matured exclusively in sherry casks, and bottled on 22nd August 2025 at 46.6% ABV. This extraordinary whisky is paired with a jaw-dropping sculpture forged entirely from the reclaimed metal of the legendary 1979 Williams FW07 Formula 1 car, anchored on polished black granite. Individually sand-cast and hand-sculpted by acclaimed artist Mike O’Connor, the piece captures the dramatic profile of the FW07’s high-downforce rear wing, transforming engineering into timeless art. Coachbuilt Whisky, conceived by Jenson Button and George Koutsakis, unites the precision, innovation, and heritage of Formula One with the craft of Scotch, producing spirits that transcend categories. Accompanied by a leather-bound book detailing the build and history, this lot is a whisky, sculpture, and testament to enduring craftsmanship -a singular creation for collectors and connoisseurs.

Glen Moray Distillery Ltd proudly presents Glen Moray 1995 Peated Cask Finish, a 30-year-old single malt that marries Speyside elegance with the smoky character of a cask previously holding Islay peated whisky. Luxuriously rich vintage oak spice notes on the nose are complemented by subtle campfire smoke and a honeyed sweetness, while the palate reveals earth and smoke interwoven with vanilla, honey, green tea, and hints of caramelised banana. The long, lingering finish develops late into the night with stem ginger, pineapple, and ethereal smoke. Accompanying this exceptional bottle is an overnight stay and dinner with the opportunity to taste the whisky alongside Glen Moray’s Head of Whisky Creation: Stephen Woodcock. As Stephen notes: “Our One of One selections are always from some of the finest casks we have stored at Glen Moray and this one is no different. Finishing in a cask which has previously held an Islay Peated Single Malt, allows the Glen Moray to pick up hints of smoke which sit wonderfully with the traditional Speyside style that Glen Moray typically imbues. This is an enigmatic and thoroughly enticing One of One selection.”

Hunter Laing & Company Limited presents Hunter Laing’s Old & Rare Teaninich 51-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky distilled in 1973 and bottled exclusively for the Distillers One of One auction in 2025. Bottled at its natural cask strength of 50.4% ABV, this rare expression is presented in a hand-cut Glencairn crystal decanter with a gold-embossed stopper, accompanied by a bespoke wooden display box from Abercorn Bespoke Packaging. Richly gold in colour, it opens with a sweet, inviting nose of tulips, orange zest, and gentle Christmas spices. The palate is full-bodied and layered, revealing apple crumble, honeycomb, and dark chocolate, before a long, lingering finish with dry oak and cracked black pepper. Drawn from decades of Hunter Laing’s careful cask selection, this one-of-a-kind whisky embodies the expertise of a third-generation family of Scottish distillers, blenders, and bottlers. A rare celebration of time, craft, and provenance, it is a collector’s treasure.

InchDairnie Whisky Ltd is offering a unique opportunity to own a KinGlassie Single Malt Single Cask, to be filled in December 2025. The successful bidder will hand-select the cask type (ex-Bourbon, ex-Rioja, ex-Port, or ex-Andalucian wine) creating a singular expression of KinGlassie whisky, maturing exclusively in a purpose-built Cask Club warehouse for 12 years. This filling will be unmatched, offering the owner the only cask of its kind in the world. InchDairnie Distillery, normally closed to the public, extends exclusive access to this cask, including a private tour of the distillery, a whisky tasting, and the chance to witness the cask filling in person. This lot represents a rare blend of craftsmanship, provenance, and personal involvement, allowing the collector to shape the maturation and destiny of a future single malt. J & G Grant has created a Glenfarclas Gallon of 58-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, presented in a bespoke oak presentation box. This remarkable 4.5-litre bottle contains whisky matured in a first-fill sherry butt, bottled at 45.4% ABV, and represents nearly six decades of Scottish craftsmanship. The hand-carved oak box was created by renowned Scottish sculptor Stuart Murdoch, whose workshop lies less than 1.5 miles from Glenfarclas Distillery. Inspired by the surrounding Scottish landscape, the design marries artistry and heritage in a tribute to the distillery’s legacy. As John Grant, Chairman of Glenfarclas, notes: “As a Liveryman of longstanding, I am delighted to once again be supporting the brilliant work of The Distillers’ Charity. It is amazing to see the difference that has already been made to the lives of so many young people and it is my hope that this piece of Glenfarclas history will contribute to the ongoing success of the charity.”

Lindores Abbey is delighted to donate a rare and exclusive opportunity for whisky enthusiasts: the chance to fill your own rare private cask of Lindores Single Malt Scotch Whisky, expertly chose by the head distiller,with Lindores’ award-winning new make spirit, distilled on site at the historic abbey. The cask will be filled on a date of the owner’s choosing, then carefully matured under bond until bottling at the owner’s request – all under the guidance of the experienced distillery team at Lindores Abbey. Each dram, carefully selected by Dr. Sam Simmons for One of One, represents an iconic moment in whisky history.. The collection sshowcases single casks, rare releases, and forgotten gems, each with its own story and character. The cabinet itself is a work of art, a one-of-a-kind home for a truly unparalleled tasting experience. Nestled within are 30ml drams of whiskies that can only be experienced together in this form, offering collectors and connoisseurs the ultimate exploration of whisky craftsmanship and provenance.

The Glenturret has created Lineage by The Glenturret, a unique whisky spanning two generations, combining liquid from two 1987 casks and two 2005 casks. The whisky is presented in a jet-black Lalique 100 Points crystal decanter. The decanter sits atop a hand-crafted plinth representing the River Turret, created by father-and-son carpenters David and Callum Robinson – marking their first collaborative public work. The liquid delivers pineapple and mango with youthful vibrancy, layered with ginger and wood spices, and rounded by mature oak. Tropical fruits and subtle sweet spice lead to a gentle, fruity finish, reflecting the distillery’s dedication to heritage and craft. Dornoch Distillery Company Ltd is offering Thompson Bros – Mystery Malt, a specially curated series of four bottles created exclusively for the Distillers One of One Auction. Each bottle conceals its contents until opened, with the distillery and age discreetly displayed under the capsule, offering an element of surprise and discovery. Drawn from Thompson Bros’ finest stocks, this series spans whiskies aged between 7 and 45 years, including expressions from both new wave and established distilleries. Thompson Bros, awarded Best Independent Bottler at the 2024 OSWAs, has bottled over 500 unique whiskies, rums, cognacs, bourbons, blends, and world spirits. Mystery Malt, launched in April 2025, saw its first two series sell out in just 24 hours, highlighting its rarity and demand. Highly collaborative, with contributions from across the whisky industry, this lot offers collectors a playful, interactive tasting experience and a chance to explore some of the most exceptional and enigmatic spirits curated by Thompson Bros.

The Tomatin Distillery Co Ltd presents a Cask of Tomatin Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, distilled on 4^th April 2014 and matured in a 1st-fill bourbon cask (Cask No. 2263). Selected personally by Master Distiller Graham Eunson who retired in May 2025, this cask represents an exceptionally rare opportunity: Tomatin does not sell casks directly to private individuals nor via the brokerage market, making this offering truly unique. With an original 124.2 litres of alcohol, this liquid reflects Tomatin’s signature Highland style – balanced, rich, and crafted with precision. Located south of Inverness, Tomatin has been producing whisky since 1897 and is renowned for blending tradition with innovation, sustainable practices, and community-focused values. This cask embodies both heritage and quality, offering the successful bidder a singular chance to own a distinctive expression from a historic distillery. Whisk-E unveils Arran to Japan –The Journey, a one-of-a-kind bottling from Cask #2/1995, the second cask ever filled at Lochranza Distillery on Arran. Laid down on 15^th August 1995 by David Croll, founder of Whisk-E Ltd Japan and one of Arran’s original investors, this exceptional whisky matured for 30 years in a Sherry Hogshead before being bottled on its 30th birthday, 15^th August 2025, at 51.0% ABV. Created to mark the 30th Anniversary of Whisk-E Ltd Japan, this unique release is presented in a bespoke engraved bottle designed by Scottish glass artist Giles Lawson Johnston, featuring Mount Fuji to symbolise the Japanese market’s reverence for Arran. The bottle is showcased in a handcrafted burr oak cabinet by Noble & Gilmour, complete with an Island of Arran–shaped window.

Young Spirits Company Ltd is offering Ferg & Harris – Wings Over Kintyre, a 31-year-old organic Springbank single malt, distilled in 1992 and finished in a 1.2-litre oak cask previously holding organic Grande Champagne cognac from 100% Folle Blanche grapes. Bottled at 47.6% ABV, this rare expression harmonises orchard fruits and spiced warmth with Springbank’s signature coastal profile. Encased in a bespoke illuminated presentation, the bottle is detailed with delicate barley motifs in soft gold, topped with an asymmetrical glass stopper, and displayed within a hand-crafted stained-glass frontage by Inverclyde artist Alec Galloway, framed in sustainable oak by Scottish woodworker Eoghan Menzies. The winning bidder will enjoy a private tasting with Alex Harrison at Young Spirits’ Edinburgh headquarters and receive the 1.2-litre cask personalised with their details, along with hand-waxed glass ampoules for sampling.

We have a small but interesting auction for you this month, with some old, limited and rare bottlings, including this 16 Year Old expression, distilled in 1981 and released in 1997 to mark the 100th anniversary of Aultmore Distillery. A rare commemorative offering, which lists the staff that worked at the distillery at the time of its centenary. Bottle number 109.

Released in 1982, this Lagavulin 12 Years Old was one of the Ascot Malt Cellar series, widely regarded as the precursor to the highly popular Classic Malts range, which replaced this 12 Years Old bottling with a 16 Years Old.

Another fascinating 12 Years Old, this bottling was discontinued from the incredibly popular Flora & Fauna series due to dwindling levels of stock. The Pittyvaich distillery began production in 1975, only be closed in 1993 and then demolished in 2002. This is one of three bottles in this month’s auction.

We love something a bit different. This bottling was distilled at the iconic Springbank Distillery in 1993. Matured in single Cask #9 then bottled at Cask strength in 2003 for a private individual. The distillation and bottling dates indicate that the whisky itself is 10 years old.

LONDON, September 2025 – The Distillers One of One® is revealing a further eight ultra rare lots set to be auctioned on Friday, 10th October 2025 at the historic Hopetoun House near Edinburgh, in collaboration with Sotheby’s. Since the inaugural auction in 2021, The Distillers One of One has firmly established itself as the largest global charity auction of rare Scotch whisky, uniquely donating 100% of the hammer price to charity. Thanks to the generosity of its donors, the auctions have so far raised £4.3 million, principally awarded to the Youth Action Fund, supporting disadvantaged young people in Scotland to reach their potential and make a positive contribution to their communities.

For the first time, The Distillers One of One is announcing an exhibition in partnership with Sotheby’s: from the 19^th to 30^th September, auction lots will be on display at Sotheby’s New Bond Street. This will be the only time the unique pieces will be exhibited in London – an opportunity for the public, collectors and whisky enthusiasts alike to experience and admire the exceptional craftsmanship and artistry behind The Distillers One of One Auction lots. 

The Member Donors

Among the 35 companies participating in the auction this year are eight “Member” donor brands, which are being revealed today.

Livingstone & Elixir Distillers, creators of The Macbeth Collection – a stunning series of 42 limited edition Scotch whiskies, each cast as a character from Shakespeare’s Scottish play, illustrated by Sir Quentin Blake – present “William Shakespeare”. This will be the only appearance from the playwright, as a remarkable Mortlach Single Malt Scotch Whisky Aged 63 Years, and singular opportunity to own the Bard as a companion piece to the entire Macbeth Collection. Sir Quentin Blake has signed and donated the specially commissioned illustration of Shakespeare, presented in the enclosed folio – a rare chance to own an original, published illustration (reproduced once only, on this bottle) by the world’s greatest living illustrator.

‘The Bard of Avon meets The Beast of Dufftown’ required an immense whisky to bring to life centuries of craft – literary and distilling – and reflect the remarkable longevity of Shakespeare’s work, still relevant, rich and rewarding after more than 400 years.  Famed for its bold and complex character and extraordinary capacity for maturation, Mortlach fitted the bill, and what could be better for this edition of The Macbeth Collection than for the spirit to hail from the home of the Wee Witchie, Mortlach’s most infamous still. “The be-all and the end-all”, Shakespeare, Act I. Bruichladdich are presenting a Biodynamic Barley 2013 Cask, the distillery’s third contribution to The Distillers One of One auction. As progressive Hebridean distillers, Bruichladdich is passionate about exploring growing techniques, championing soil health and distilling a range of barley varietals in pursuit of extraordinary flavour, with the Biodynamic Barley 2013 cask an exceptional spirit underpinned by sustainability.  Bruichladdich Distillery Master Blender, Adam Hannett, says: “At Bruichladdich Distillery we’re committed to reconnecting land and dram, and our work with Biodynamic barley is the epitome of this distilling philosophy. Using fully traceable barley from the carbon-positive Yatesbury House Farm, Wiltshire, this spirit is not only extraordinary in flavour – with the sweet malt working exceptionally well with Bruichladdich’s signature, fruity character – but supports sustainable farming, healthy soils and regenerative agriculture. Loch Lomond Group reveals “Glen Scotia Four Quarters”, a rare collection of four unique vintage

25-year-old single malt whiskies showcasing Campbeltown’s Victorian maritime trade heritage. Distilled in November 1999, all began maturation in refill bourbon barrels and through an array of considered cask finishes, offer a flavour journey of discovery. The first single malt (51.9% ABV) was fully matured in refill American Oak, while the second (56.6% ABV) rested in a first fill Caribbean Rum cask. The third expression (52.9% ABV) was refined in a first fill Oloroso cask and the fourth and final release (52.8% ABV) spent time in a first fill Pedro Ximénez cask. Created in partnership with luxury Scottish jeweller Hamilton & Inches, each Glencairn crystal decanter features gold-plated detailing, engraving and a gold-plated coin at its crown. The whiskies are presented in a bespoke oak display cabinet, depicting the four quarters of the world across which Glen Scotia’s award-winning whiskies have travelled, complete with a gold-plated coin handle.

Ballindalloch Distillery, who were part of the initial auction in 2021, have returned this year with Ballindalloch 2014 Cask no 3 – “Sunrise Over The Ben” – the oldest Ballindalloch in existence, from the 3^rd cask filled at the distillery, specially selected by Guy Macpherson-Grant. This unique lot was inspired by the sunrise over Ben Rinnes, where the bottle is set in a piece of antique crystal cullet, brought to life by glass artist Giles Lawson-Johnston, son of Andrew Lawson Johnston—who held the prestigious Royal Warrant for Artist in Glass. It was Andrew who acquired the precious crystal cullet in the 1960s, engraving pieces for Ballindalloch’s private collection. Today, his son continues this legacy, breathing life into the art with the same passion and precision. This Ballindalloch Single Malt, aged in first fill bourbon barrel and finished in a red wine barrique, is honeyed and abundantly fruity Single Malt in a classic Speyside style. Not only is this piece an investment in art, but also a tangible connection to the heritage of one of the finest whisky estates in Scotland. 

The Borders Distillery have created “Elementum”, a unique Single Malt Scotch Whisky entirely distilled, matured, and complied by The Borders team, specifically for The Distillers One of One. The brand’s distillers have selected the best spirit from American Bourbon and French Oak Ex-Douro Valley wine casks and created this singular expression of their work. Elementum is housed in a striking 21 litre repurposed ceramic vessel and marries perfectly with Scottish artist Vicky Paul’s contemporary art; a vibrant, youthful work capturing the Distillery’s fruit-forward-flavours, the skill and passion of its distillers and its relationships with the farmers and rivers of the Tweed Valley. Whyte & Mackay are donating “The Rare Tamnavulin Single Malt 50 Years Old”.  You’ll find Tamnavulin Distillery in the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains on the southern edge of the world’s most famous whisky-making region – Speyside. Ahead of the brand’s 60th anniversary in 2026, Tamnavulin’s whisky making team has evaluated their spectacular aged whisky stocks. The pinnacle of this assessment is the bottling of Tamnavulin’s oldest ever release: this unique 50 Years Old Tamnavulin Single Speyside Malt, created by legendary Master Distiller, Richard Paterson. Distilled 24th November 1972, initially filled into American white oak Bourbon barrels, then transferred into a Graham’s 1994 Vintage Port Pipe in 2018, where it remained until it was transferred into glass Bonbonnes in 2023. In view of the distillery’s exceptional Sherry & Wine seasoning wood programme – of which this release is exemplary – it is not surprising that Tamnavulin today is the world’s fastest growing Single Malt. The warmest of autumnal salutations to all, and welcome to our now live 171st auction!  We have a fabulous array of drams in this auction everything from far eastern rarities to homegrown heavyweights sourced from right here in Scotland.  With so many bottles being offered we thought it prudent to pick out a few lots to shine a spotlight on, so here we go.

First up we have a bottle which boasts exquisite design and is of tremendous rarity, this is the Karuizawa 1965 50 Year Old Single Cask #8636 for La Maison du Whisky.  As we all know Karuizawa is no more, having fallen silent in the year 2000, which makes expressions like this all the rarer.  It has spent a mammoth five decades ageing before finally being bottled for release while still somehow managing to maintain a hefty ABV of 62.6% in the process.  An increasingly sought-after bottling, and a genuine highlight in even the most salubrious of whisky collections.

Next we have a bottling which has attained near-legendary status in the world of American whiskey collecting, this is the A.H. Hirsch Reserve 1974 16 Year Old.  Distilled at the now defunct Schaefferstown Michter’s distillery in 1974 and aged for 16 years this special dram exhibits the famed ‘golden hue’ Hirsch was renowned for.  This bottling has been leaving reviewers astonished for years due to its richness and depth of flavour, so why not pick this one up and see what all the fuss is about?

It wouldn’t be a highlight reel without something special from Scotland and this beauty most definitely fits the bill, this is the Macallan 40 Year Old The Red Collection.  Taking inspiration from Macallan founder Alexander Reid, who’s surname means “the red one”, this show stopping range is also noteworthy for having been crafted by Macallan’s first female Master Whisky Maker, Kirsteen Campbell, who took the up the reins in 2019.  An absolutely fantastic and understated release from Macallan, solidifying their position as one of the most collectable distilleries out there.

Finally we return to Japan for our last highlight and a lot which includes not one but three of the most collectable Japanese whiskies on the planet, this is the Chichibu 2009, Hanyu 2000 and Karuizawa 35 Year Old SAFE Bubbles and Malt Premium Collection 3 x 70cl.  Produced for Hong Kong whisky merchants SAFE Bubbles and Malt this collection features a Chichibu, a Hanyu and a 35 Year Old Karuizawa; a fearsome lineup we trust you agree.  Each whisky is drawn from a single cask and they have been packaged together in a beautifully understated presentation box adorned with Asian imagery.As always we have an enormous selection of drams to suit every budget on offer this month, so now is the time to delve into this month’s offerings and start building that watchlist.

Unveiling Old Pulteney Polaris for 2025 Distillers One of One Auction

Masterpiece of Caithness craftsmanship features 47-year-old whisky, Old Pulteney’s oldest ever release  

International Beverage, unveiled Old Pulteney Polaris, its most extraordinary bottling of Old Pulteney single malt Scotch whisky to date, created exclusively for the 2025 Distillers One of One charity auction.  

This one-of-a-kind masterpiece of artisanal skill and artistry features a rare 47-year-old expression of the Maritime Malt, which is the Wick Distillery’s oldest ever release. 

It is encased in a stunning sculpture of Caithness slate and silver, which are both naturally found in the Distillery’s windswept coastal home in the far north of Scotland, with an additional enhancement of a secret copper disc at the base of the structure which has been carefully reclaimed from Pulteney Distillery’s stills.  

Polaris takes its name from the North Star, symbolising a bold, bright future for Old Pulteney as International Beverage plans a global celebration of the Distillery’s milestone 200th anniversary in 2026 – and the beginning of an exciting programme of new releases.  

For guests at this year’s Distillers One of One charity auction, Polaris offers the chance to own a unique and never-to-be-repeated piece of Old Pulteney’s history when they gather for the prestigious biennial auction, which takes place at Hopetoun House in Edinburgh on 10th October.  

Polaris follows on from Old Pulteney’s previous contribution to the 2023 auction – Bow Wave – which raised nearly £70,000 for the event’s main beneficiary: the Youth Action Fund, a charity dedicated to transforming the lives of young people in Scotland. 

The Whisky 

Distilled and aged at Old Pulteney’s windswept home in Wick on the far north Scottish coast, this whisky captures an authentic maritime character that is unparalleled. Old Pulteney Polaris has been carefully matured for four decades in American oak casks with a final seven years spent resting in a single first-fill Spanish oak butt.  

 Selected for its elegantly complex and perfectly balanced character, this exceptional whisky boasts complex aromas of sea spray that the Maritime Malt is renowned for. On the palate, delicate vanilla and sweet cinnamon pastry come to the fore with a smooth, fine-textured taste featuring Scottish tablet and dark chocolate, ending with a finish of clotted cream. Bottled in 1.5 litre with an ABV of 43.6%, the Lot will include a 100ml tasting sample. 

The Bottle 

Honouring the industrial craftsmanship behind each drop of Old Pulteney, the Polaris bottle has been expertly designed and crafted in partnership with local artisans including Tain-based glass merchant Glasstorm to symbolize and celebrate the whisky’s coastal Scottish home. A deep blue glass bottle, represents the crashing waves of the Caithness coast, with intricate inciso cuts creating a rippled effect around the glassware. Caithness slate encases the bottle, symbolising the enduring cliffs found on this part of Scotland’s northerly coastline, and the bottle’s smooth front allows the luxurious mahogany hues of the whisky to shine through. Threads of Caithness silver run along the bottom of the dramatic slate structure to mimic the motion of waves and are beautifully intertwined with cords of copper. 

Renowned whisky expert, Dave Broom, praises its remarkable taste: ‘This deep amber whisky opens with a captivating nose of luxurious stone fruits, citrus zest, and a complex evolution toward oxidative notes like medlar and cob nut, lifted by the sensation of a cool seashore breeze. The palate is thick and waxy, mingling soft, late-harvest fruit with cedar-spiced tannins and a hint of salinity, evoking a windswept clifftop. A splash of water reveals greater mineral depth and incense-like spice, while the finish sees the return of fruit after the saltiness fades – mature and balanced.’  

Award-winning whisky writer, Jonny McCormick, further compliments the whisky’s incredible flavour profile: ‘Old Pulteney Polaris glows rich amber with burnished gold highlights. The first wave of aromas opens with a bold coastal nose of sea spray, molasses cake, nutmeg, and deep oak, before revealing layers of vanilla, espresso foam, and hints of baked apple and peppermint. On the palate, it’s silky and vibrant, with Scottish tablet, citrus peel, and a rolling wave of grilled pineapple, cherry cake, and toasted spice, all carried by a mineral backbone. The finish is indulgent and lingering, merging dark chocolate and coffee with soft oak, clotted cream, and a final lift of white chocolate and nutmeg.’

Grandson Uncovers Treasure in Family Inheritance: Rare Macallan Lalique 50 Year Old Scotch Valued at $90,000

In a tale fit for the silver screen, a grandson, Liam Martin*, unearthed an extraordinary treasure amidst the bittersweet task of sorting their late grandfather’s belongings. Among a lifetime’s collection of keepsakes and heirlooms was something that initially seemed unremarkable—a dusty box with a bottle of Scotch tucked away in the back of the cellar. But little did they know, this humble bottle was a portal to history, luxury, and staggering value.

What the grandson discovered was no ordinary bottle of whisky. After a Google search and a meeting with experts at Iron Gate Auctions in Calgary, Liam along with his father learned their unassuming inheritance was a Macallan Lalique 50 Years Old —one of the most sought-after collector’s items in the world of fine spirits, valued at over $90,000 CAD.

The Macallan Lalique, renowned for its exquisite crystal decanter and the whisky it encases, is a rare edition cherished by connoisseurs and collectors alike. Often referred to as “liquid gold,” it represents a union of unparalleled craftsmanship between The Macallan distillery and French crystal masters Lalique. Each bottle is a time capsule of artistry, encapsulating decades of skill, passion, and heritage.

“This wasn’t just a bottle of Scotch—it was a masterpiece,” Liam shared. “We’re still in shock. To think that my grandfather quietly owned something so rare is surreal. He wasn’t the type to brag about his collection, so this feels like a final gift from him.”

In partnership with Iron Gate Auctions, the bottle will soon have its moment in the spotlight. On September 15th, 2025, collectors and whisky enthusiasts from around the globe will vie for the chance to own this one-of-a-kind treasure in a high-stakes online auction. Experts anticipate fierce competition, with bids likely to surpass its estimated value.

“This type of find is thrilling,” remarked Ajay Bhardwaj, Director of Spirits at Iron Gate Auctions. “The Macallan Lalique 50 is the first in the 6 pillars series released in 2005. It isn’t just a bottle of whisky—it’s a piece of history and a symbol of the pinnacle of craftsmanship. Only 470 decanters were made, and many of the initial Macallan in Lalique bottles were opened before the Six Pillars Collection was established as a series. The actual number of remaining 50-Year-Old Exceptional Oak Casks decanters is unknown, making it the rarest and hardest to find in the collection. This bottle will undoubtedly make headlines and create immense excitement in the collecting community.”

As Canada readies itself for this monumental auction, Liam is planning his next steps hinting at dreams of travel and paying tribute to his grandfather’s memory: “It’s like he’s sending us on one last adventure together.”

AUGUST 2025 AUCTION ENDS TONIGHT!

Fear not, there is still time to bid on your favourite bottles, including this stunning bottle of Macallan Time: Space Mastery. Released in September 2024 to mark the 200th anniversary of the Macallan Distillery. Beautifully presented in a curiously shaped circular bottle symbolising life’s enduring cycle, paying homage to the history and story of the distillery and Its age old whisky making processes.

Or how about this stunning bottling, which was distilled in 1983 at Dallas Dhu, aged for 23 years and then bottled at an unspecified date for the distillery caretakers Historic Scotland.

Released in 2012 to celebrate Burns night, this beautiful bottling of Cutty Sark with elaborate case depicts a scene from the legendary Burns poem Tam O’Shanter and comes with a hardback book which includes the poem itself, stunning artwork inspired by the poem and a brief history. This 25 year old Blend is one of only 5,000 produced.

Another little cracker, this 25 Years Old Bushmills bottling was released in 2023 to mark the 415th anniversary of obtaining a licence to distil Bushmills. matured in Bourbon barrels and Sherry butts for between four and six years before finishing in first-fill Ruby Port pipes for the final 21 years.

AUGUST 2025 AUCTION NOW LIVE!

We are delighted to offer some old, rare and limited bottlings in this month’s auction, including this iconic Macallan bottle, released in 2018 to mark the opening of the new Macallan distillery. Genesis also celebrates the design processes used to construct the state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly building. A highly prized and important bottling in the history of the Macallan Distillery, limited to a mere 2,500 bottles!

Released in 2024 to mark the 100th anniversary of Cutty Sark, this extraordinary blend has been aged for a minimum of 23 years and then (unusually) bottled at Cask strength. Presented in a beautiful Art Deco style bottle and striking canvas bag, which sports a nautical theme. Bottle number 926 of only 1,435 bottles produced.

The Macallan 30 Years Old was first introduced in the late 1990’s. In 2018, the 30 year old (along with all of the Macallan ranges) was rebranded in conjunction with the opening of the new distillery, which saw the 30 year old Sherry Oak become an annual release. This is the 2022 edition.

We have a selection of Wolfburn on offer in this month’s auction, including Kylver Fehu. Released in 2016, this is the first instalment of what has become an annual release from the Highland distillery. Kylver takes Its name from an ancient burial stone found in Gotland, Sweden. Thurso was once a Viking settlement, the Kylver stone is said to display one of the earliest examples of the Viking runic alphabet. Fehu, the name of this first expression from the highly popular Kylver series, means ‘Wealth’ in the ancient Nordic language. Matured in ex-Bourbon Barrels, aged for a minimum of 3 years then bottled as the first expression in the series. One of only 1,200 bottles produced.
