Scotch Whisky Auctions ‘138 Ends Tonight’ – Scotch Whisky News

The 138th Auction ENDS TONIGHT with over 9000 bottles to choose from.  With an auction this large we thought we’d save you some scrolling time, so we’ve highlighted a few special expressions!.

Macallan Red Collection 71, 74 & 78 Year Old 3 x 70cl

The Macallan Red Collection is one of the finest series of bottlings released in recent years.  This lot contains 3 of the oldest bottlings in the series, the 71 Year Old, 74 Year Old and the oldest bottling in the collection the 78 Year Old.  It’s rare to see even one of these come to the secondary market, so the chance to purchase all three in one fell swoop really doesn’t come around that often.  If this is something you’re collecting then this is an opportunity to purchase almost half the entire collection in one go.

Bowmore 1969 50 Year Old Vaults Series

This outstanding release is the final whisky in the acclaimed Vaults Series, the Bowmore 1969 50 Year Old. Matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads, Bowmore themselves describe the flavour profile as ‘undefinable’ and boasting of an equally cryptic ‘enigma of flavours’.  This is the first time through one of our auctions for this grand old dram, and we expect there to be high demand for this vanishingly rare and exceedingly exquisite expression.

Springbank 1966 Local Barley Cask #441 75cl

The Campbeltown region, once known as ‘the whisky capital of the world’, produces some of the finest single malts in Scotland.  This Springbank 1966 Local Barley Cask #441 75cl is yet another spectacular dram from the Campbeltown distilling heavyweight.  Distilled way back in January 1966 this rare whisky was then held in a single sherry cask before finally being bottled in June 1990.  The 1966 vintages from the Springbank Local Barley Series have steadily grown in legend and stature in the whisky collecting world, using only local malted barley and bottled at a mighty 61.2% this dram is not for the fainthearted.

Macallan 1950 Tales of the Macallan Volume 1 Lalique Decanter

Finally, we’ll finish up with another remarkable expression from Speyside’s most famous distillery, the Macallan 1950 Tales of the Macallan Volume 1 Lalique Decanter.  We’ve had this through the auction a few times now and whenever we do it never fails to elicit a gasp or two from our staff.  As if the 1950 vintage malt wasn’t enough this breathtaking whisky is presented in a bespoke Lalique decanter which is itself housed in a weighty leatherbound almanac of the highest quality.

As well as these top-shelf drams we also have over 9000 other bottles to choose from.  With this many bottles in the auction there really is something for everyone so dive in to this month’s auction, start building your watchlist, and happy bidding to one and all!

BOWMORE TRIO LEAD BONHAMS FINE WHISKY SALE IN PARIS – Whisky Sale News

BOWMORE TRIO LEAD BONHAMS FINE WHISKY AND SPIRITS SALE IN PARIS

View Catalogue

Paris –Three exceptional bottles of Bowmore lead Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr’s Fine Whisky et Spiritueux d’Exception sale in Paris on Tuesday 6 December 2022. They include a bottle of Bowmore-35 year old-1964 estimated at €16,000-20,000.

Bowmore-35 year old-1964 was released for the UK wine and spirit merchant Oddbins in the year 2000. It is one of only 99 bottles of the legendary sherried vintage 1964 from Bowmore distillery and comes from the same batch of casks as the iconic Black Bowmore series. The trio is completed by a bottle of Bowmore-1956 estimated at €8,000-10,000 and a bottle of Bowmore-1964 estimated at €7,000-9,000. Both bottles were imported by P. Soffiantino & C. S.p.A. and come in their original presentation cases.

The sale, which consists of 227 lots, also offers:

  • A bottle of Aberfeldy the Gold of Pitilie-28 year old-1985. One of the oldest and rarest malts to be released by Aberfeldy, it is named after the stream from which the distillery draws its water. The Pitilie Burn is also known for its alluvial deposits of Scottish gold. Encased in an ornately cast 22-carat gold collar, this extraordinary bottle is just one of 10 ever released (two of which have been retained by the distillery), and even contains flakes of Scottish gold in the stopper. Estimate: €15,000-20,000.
  • A bottle of Hanyu Ichiro’s Malt-2 of Spades. Distilled at Hanyu Distillery in 1991 and bottled in 2011 it was imported to the UK by The Number One Drinks Company Ltd. One of the legendary Malt Cards Series, it is estimated at €13,000-20,000.
  • A bottled of Karuizawa Single Cask-1975.  Distilled by Karuizawa Distillery and bottled on 14 June 2010, it was imported to France by La Maison Du Whisky. Estimate: €16,000-20,000.

Diego Lanza, Bonhams Senior Whisky Specialist, said: “We are fortunate to be offering some very special and sought-after bottles in this sale. The 35 year old 1964 is an extremely rare Bowmore – undoubtedly one of their very best. The Aberfeldy the Gold of Pitilie-28 year old-1985 is very scarce and hardly ever comes onto the open market. Only eight bottles of the ten produced were released for sale and we are offering number 1.”

HIGH COAST SWEDISH SINGLE MALT CASKS LEAD BONHAMS ONLINE WHISKY SALE

View Catalogue

Yamazaki 1984.  Estimate: £13,000-18,000 (left). Macallan-Glenlivet 22 year old. Estimate: £6,000-9,000 (right).

London – The small High Coast distillery (formerly known as Box), located in the village of Bjärtrå in the Ångermanland region of northern Sweden, has been producing its unique whiskies since 2010. The distillery produces two styles of single malt; a fruity and fresh unpeated spirit, and a smokier and peaty type. It uses an array of different wood types such as Refill Sherry Hogshead, Virgin Charred America Oak and Bourbon Barrel.

Bonhams’ online Fine Whisky and Spirits sale from Friday 2 December – Tuesday 13 December 2022 offers both these great styles in a curated selection of four casks as follows:

Diego Lanza, Bonhams Senior Whisky Specialist, said: “High Coast puts the spotlight on quality single malts produced outside Scotland. Their visionary Distillery Manager and Master Brewer Roger Melander set out to create the best Swedish whisky with the precision of the Japanese whisky craft and the strong character of Scotch single malts. The eclectic casks selection in the sale demonstrate how he succeeded in creating a versatile and well-rounded single malt, and we are delighted to be featuring four of High Coast’s distinctive casks of single malt in the sale.”

Other highlights of the sale, which consists of 82 lots, include:

  • Macallan-Glenlivet 22 year old. This very rare malt was distilled during the Roaring Twenties and bottled in the early 1940s making it a true Macallan time capsule. Estimate: £6,000-9,000.
  • Yamazaki 1984. Bottled in 2009 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the launch of Yamazaki as a single malt whisky by the house of Suntory, this particular expression is regarded by many collectors and connoisseurs as the best Yamazaki ever produced, and one of the essential single malts ever made in Japan – the quintessential Japanese single malt. Estimate: £13,000-18,000.

The sale also offers a selection of desirable independent bottlings:

  • Ardbeg-1973. One of the rarest Ardbeg independent bottlings made by the Wine Society, it is estimated at £2,000-3,000.
  • Longmorn-39 year old-1969. This is one of the most coveted Longmorn single malts ever to be bottled by Gordon & MacPhail. Estimate: £3,000-3,800.
  • Glen Mhor-11 year old.  An ancient bottling of the lost distillery of Glen Mhor from Harvey’s of Bristol. Estimate: £1,300-2,500.>
