NOVEMBER 2025 AUCTION NOW LIVE!

We have a small but mighty auction for you this month, with some old, limited and rare bottlings, including this Caol Ila, aged for 15 years before being bottled at Cask Strength in 1990. This is widely considered to be the pinnacle of the popular Manager’s Dram series.

Released in 2015, the sherry cask matured Macallan Folio 1 was the first instalment of the Archival Series, with only 2,000 bottles released, making this a much sought after bottling.

Released in 2024 exclusively to members of the Dalmore Guild, this Dalmore 2009 15 Years Old is the youngest of a limited edition trio, matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and finished in the exceptionally rare Sherry Casks of legendary Spanish bodega González Byass. One of only 2,736 bottles produced!

Released as limited edition expressions, the highly popular Cask Strength versions of the 25 Years Old Laphroaig are only released periodically rather than annually. Although previous editions were matured using a combination of Bourbon and Sherry Casks, this 2023 edition was matured entirely in ex-Bourbon barrels.

Chivas Brothers unveils The Glenlivet Eternal Collection, Second Edition, 56 Year Old, 1 of 1 — a one-of-a-kind auction release in partnership with Sotheby’s

London, November 2025 – Chivas Brothers, the Pernod Ricard business dedicated to Scotch whisky and makers of The Glenlivet and Aberlour, today reveals the second release in its landmark partnership with Sotheby’s to bring never-before-released whiskies to discerning collectors.

The Glenlivet Eternal Collection, Second Edition, 56 Year Old, 1 of 1 represents the pinnacle of more than five decades of craftsmanship, innovation and maturation expertise. Master Blender Kevin Balmforth collaborated with sherry suppliers in Spain to craft a bespoke seasoning blend — combining Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez and Palo Cortado — which seasoned a new Spanish Oak cask before the whisky was laid down over four years ago. The ageing journey was a combination of this bespoke sherry butt and American oak barrel, adding layers of vanilla and toffee to complement The Glenlivet’s hallmark orchard fruit and honeyed richness. The combined result of these two casks is a singular, exceptionally aged single malt offering extraordinary depth, shaped by a finishing process unlike anything in the brand’s history, one that exemplifies Chivas Brothers’ craft of truly one-of-a-kind whiskies defined by rarity, provenance and masterful artistry.

This exclusive single malt lot is presented in a 24 carat gold-plated spherical glass decanter, adorned with  gold engravings of heather branches. Its bespoke bar top features an exceptional 137.73 carat lab-grown Paraiba Tourmaline simulant.   The whisky is accompanied by a bespoke sculptural plinth crafted by acclaimed artists Fredrikson Stallard, featuring  3D-printed heather branches plated in 24 carat gold that rise from a base of Guatemalan green marble. Inspired by Speyside’s dramatic terrain, the design echoes the whisky’s complexity and the rugged beauty of its Scottish homeland.

The Glenlivet Eternal Collection, Second Edition, 56 Year Old, 1 of 1 will be offered solely through Sotheby’s Finest & Rarest Whisky auction, running from 6–20 November 2025. Proceeds will support the National Trust for Scotland’s excavation work within the Cairngorms, where erosion threatens archaeological remains that could unlock new understanding of prehistoric life in the region. The initiative builds upon a five-year partnership between The Glenlivet and the Trust.

This announcement follows the recent record-breaking Distillers One of One® Charity Auction, held with Sotheby’s on 10 October 2025, where The Glenlivet SPIRA 60 Year Old 1965 achieved a record selling price of £650,000 — the highest bid ever recorded for the brand at auction and highest ever single bottle lot record at The Distillers One of One auctions to date. As Scotch cements its position as the world’s leading status spirit, Chivas Brothers’ diverse portfolio of high-end and exceptionally rare whiskies is perfectly positioned to meet the demand for rare, investment-grade and prestigious Scotch.

The Glenlivet Eternal Collection, Second Edition, 56 Year Old, 1 of 1 carries an estimate of £35,000-£70,000. Bottled at 42.7%, this expression offers notes of poached plums, sticky dates and luscious dark chocolate ganache on the nose, with a taste of fresh blackberries, ripe banana and cherry compote and a velvety sweet, complex finish with enduring notes of dark chocolate.

Our currently live 173rd auction closes on Sunday night, leaving loads of time to get your bids in.  We’ve selected a few lots we feel are worth highlighting that you might have missed this month.  Best of luck in the auction everyone.

First we up we have a rather unusual bottling. Kingsbury (also known as the Kingsbury Wine & Spirits Company) was founded in Aberdeen in 1989 by the president of Japan Import System Co. Ltd, Katsuhiko Tanaka, and this little gem is the Speyside 1989 30 Year Old Kingsbury Special Anniversary.  Bottled to celebrate three decades of successful trading under the Kingsbury name, this Speyside single malt has spent 30 years ageing in a sherry butt and given Kingsbury’s reputation for selecting casks it is more than likely delicious too.

Whenever this one crosses my path I just have to highlight it, most definitley a bucket list dram, this is the Laphroaig 1980 27 Year Old Friends of Laphroaig Edition.  Distilled in 1980 and aged for twenty seven years in 5 Oloroso casks before being married together into this tremendous concoction, this bottle really is a beaut.  One of only 94 bottles released for the ‘Friends of Laphroaig’ community, this is also a marvelously rare release for any serious collectors out there.

Another absolute cracker from Islay now, this is the Bowmore 1957 38 Year Old.  Distilled way back in 1957 this extraordinary dram then spent almost four decades quietly slumbering in select oak casks in the now legendary Number 1 Vaults.  Rich and smooth Bowmore doesn’t traditionally pack the high peated punch of other Islay distilleries but the quality of the spirit they produce remains second to none on Islay, or anywhere else for that matter.

And finally, we have something special from the famed sixteen men of Tain, this is the Glenmorangie 1974 Pride 1L.  This bottling is one of only 503 bottles released, and boasts its contents being the oldest of all official Glenmorangie releases worldwide at 41 years of maturation. As if this wasn’t impressive enough, this piece is a collaborative effort with piano craftsmen, Steinway & Sons.  Their influence and contribution can be seen on the immaculate finishing and stature of the display case.  Truly a thing of beauty and a worthwhile addition to even the most exclusive of collections.As always, we have a wide range of drams with something to suit everyone, so now is the time to get moving picking out your own personal favourites for your watchlist.  Best of luck to everyone in the auction, and as always………..don’t lose your bottle.

Lots can be split over the next three auctions.   Unfortunately this service is not available in London. Although we do have four collection points in London. Collections are limited and offered on a first come first served basis. It is essential that a submission sheet is completed, you can find the link to do so under the selling section on your ‘My SWA’ page. It would be appreciated if bottles could be packed for uplift with your name clearly marked on the front of the box. A winner in our auction? We are now offering a delivery service to customers who are dropping bottles off for a future auction. This service is charged at £12 (inc. VAT), optional loss and breakage cover is available.

KANDOBLANC’S ‘DRAGON IN CLOUDS’ REACHES

A LANDMARK US $142,433 AT DISTILLERS ONE OF ONE AUCTION

-Highest lot price achieved by an independent company in this year’s auction-

KANDOBLANC – the visionary Maison at the intersection of art, culture and rare whisky – has achieved a landmark moment as its one-of-a-kind creation, Dragon in Clouds, sold for US $142,433 at the Distillers One of One auction in partnership with Sotheby’s – the highest lot price achieved by an independent boutique company and sixth highest all the 39 lots – more than doubling KANDOBLANC’s previous auction record.

The auction furthered KANDOBLANC’s commitment to cultural contribution, with 100% of proceeds from Dragon in Clouds donated to The Distillers’ Charity in support of the Youth Action Fund, which supports transformative opportunities for disadvantaged young people across Scotland. All 39 one-of-a-kind lots were presented at the event, collectively raising US $3,882,102 for charitable causes.

Beyond its aesthetic achievements, Dragon in Clouds represents KANDOBLANC’s commitment to artistic sustainability and the preservation of artisanal knowledge and heritage techniques. By creating economically viable projects for master craftsmen, the maison ensures these ancient skills continue to evolve rather than merely survive.

Dragon in Clouds arrives at a moment when collectors and patrons are seeking objects with authentic cultural narrative and emotional depth. The Maison plans to unveil further details about its upcoming singular piece inspired by Mount Fuji.

The Distillers One of One auction took place at Hopetoun House, Edinburgh, on Friday 10^th October with auction partner Sotheby’s. All proceeds support The Distillers’ Charity and its vital mission.

The Distillers One of One Auction is a biennial series of ultra-rare whisky auctions, which launched in 2021. To date, the Auctions have raised £4.3 million, principally awarded to the Youth Action Fund with the aim of supporting young people in Scotland, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to reach their potential and make a positive contribution to their communities. The Youth Action Fund’s portfolio charities are Aberdeen Foyer, Action for Children, Enable Works, Fare, Street League and The Talk About Trust. They are collectively managed by Inspiring Scotland.

More than 3,300 young people have been engaged through the Youth Action Fund since its inception in early 2022, benefiting from the work the fund’s dedicated charity partners have undertaken, and dramatically increasing their opportunities to enter the workforce. These young people have significantly improved their long-term prospects, either securing employment (33%), progressing to further/higher education (28%), pursuing other vocational training and apprenticeships (19%), or re-engaging with school (15%). The cumulative employability outcome (to June 2025) currently stands at 2,271.

A total of eighty-one unique lots have been donated across the 2021 and 2023 auctions, 37 of which broke world sales records for the distilleries who created and donated them. The Distillers One of One has earned its reputation as a once-in-a-lifetime experience for collectors: no two bottles are ever the same, and no lot will ever be recreated. The warmest of welcomes everyone to our now live 173rd auction!  We have an absolutely stupendous array of drams on offer this month, and with the festive period right around the corner this is the perfect chance to start stocking up that drinks cabinet in preparation for the impending yuletide onslaught.

With that in mind we would like to encourage all our customers, but in particular in the US and Worldwide shipping zones, that if you wish to buy bottles for Christmas that you attempt to win them in this auction.

Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee any bottles won in the December Auction (174th) will be delivered on time for Christmas.

Time to start building that watchlist.

Our first bottle to shine a light on is a particularly enticing one, this beauty is the Glenfiddich 1964 37 Year Old Single Cask #10791.  Distilled right in the middle of the swinging sixties this delicious looking dram has spent an incredible 37 years in a sherry hogshead, and boy can you tell!  Bottled by Ian MacLeod this is a truly special dram from one of Scotland’s premier distilleries.

Next we have another bottle which has been receiving covetous glances here at SWA towers, this is the Springbank 1970 36 Year Old Signatory.  There are few things better in this life than a well-aged Springbank, and this little cracker certainly fits the bill.  Distilled at the dawn of the seventies and aged for the best part of four decades in a single Sherry Butt, this will be a dram to savour, no doubt.

Following on our theme of ‘drams I would like to drink’, this belter is the Glenfarclas 1961 Premium Casks.  A marriage of three 1st Fill Oloroso casks, all distilled in 1961, this darkly inviting dram was bottled for the German market in 2008.  Despite being the product of three casks only 458 bottles were produced, lending this dram an air of exclusivity to go with its obvious deliciousness.

And finally, we have a rather distinguished older Speyside gentleman this is the Macallan 1945 Speymalt Gordon & MacPhail.  To put the age of this dram into context World War II had yet to finish when it was distilled.  It would have to spend an inordinately long amount of time ageing in 1st Fill Sherry Hogsheads before it was finally bottled in 2013.  A chance to taste the Macallan of old, now who wouldn’t want that?As always we have an enormous selection of drams to suit every budget on offer this month, so now is the time to delve into this month’s offerings and start building that watchlist.

The Joker: The Crown of Ichiro’s Famous Playing Cards Series

Only at Iron Gate Auctions in Canada.  November 3-10, 2025.

The Joker whisky, crafted by the now silent Hanyu Distillery, is celebrated as the pinnacle of the legendary Ichiro’s Malt Playing Cards Series. This limited collection, conceived by Ichiro Akuto—the grandson of the distillery’s founder—has become a cult favourite among whisky enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Hanyu Distillery, located in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, was established in the 1940s, blending traditional Scottish whisky-making techniques with Japanese innovation. Though the distillery closed its doors in 2000, Ichiro Akuto salvaged remaining casks, ensuring Hanyu’s legacy would endure through exceptional bottlings like those found in the Playing Cards Series.

Ichiro’s Playing Cards Series is a collector’s dream.  Beginning in 2005, Ichiro Akuto released a series of single malt whiskies, each representing a playing card in a standard deck. The playing card theme chosen for its universal visual appeal and ease to order a dram at the bar.  Bottled from rare Hanyu casks, the series features various ages, cask types, and flavour profiles from the Ace to King in four suits, plus two Jokers.

The Joker: The Final Card

The Joker whisky, released in 2014, marks the grand finale of the series. Two versions were produced: a coloured label and a monochrome label. The coloured Joker is a vatting of multiple casks, offering a complex nose of dark fruits, spice, and oak, while the monochrome Joker is a single cask bottling, noted for its intensity and depth.

Iron Gate’s November Spirits auction will feature the coloured label of the Joker release.  Bottle #2947 or 3690.  57.7% ABV. Distillations between the 1985 and 2000, the last year the distillery operated.

HOUSE OF HAZELWOOD AND HUNTSMAN OF SAVILE ROW WHISKY SET NEW RECORD WITH BESPOKE TAILORING EXPERIENCE AT DISTILLERS ONE OF ONE AUCTION

In a world-first collaboration, two icons of British craftmanship – House of Hazelwood and Huntsman of Savile Row came together to offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity experience at this year’s Distillers One of One auction. Their joint lot – the opportunity to create both a bespoke whisky blend and a custom cashmere tweed jacket, went under the hammer securing a top bid of £46,250/$61,761.09, exceeding its pre-sale low estimate by three times. 

The Lot offers the successful bidder the chance to spend a day immersed in heritage and craftsmanship, choosing between two exceptional settings: the secluded elegance of Hazelwood House in Speyside – the private home of the Gordon family – or the refined intimacy of Huntsman’s Clubroom on Savile Row.

Guided by Campbell Carey, Huntsman’s Head Cutter and Creative Director, the winning bidder will design a bespoke jacket cut from cashmere tweed, developed exclusively for this occasion to mark Huntsman’s 175-year legacy – a landmark moment for the legendary tailor. 

Side-by-side with the House of Hazelwood’s blending team, the guest will delve into the Gordon family’s private whisky stocks – featuring a collection of rare malt and grain whiskies, aged up to 60 years old and including spirits from closed distilleries – to create a signature whisky blend. Additional bottles of the unique blend will be available for private order by negotiation.

The final blend will be presented in a custom-built one-of-a-kind display cabinet, hand-crafted by Paul Hodgkiss (as pictured above and below). Crafted from wind-felled elm from the gardens at Hazelwood House and featuring a rare piece of burr elm from Hodgkiss’s personal collection, the cabinet beautifully fuses nature, artistry, and heritage. Every element has been meticulously considered — from liquid form copper detailing that accentuates the wood’s natural grain to handmade gold handles, miniature replicas of the House of Hazelwood bottle topper. The tambour doors glide open to reveal bespoke whisky bottles, each nestled into a leather-lined circular base each embossed with the House of Hazelwood mark.

With over 40 years of experience in bespoke design and furniture craftsmanship, Paul Hodgkiss brings his passion for blending traditional techniques with modern innovation to every detail of this creation. “It’s been a true privilege to envisage this design and work with our head craftsman, Anthony Blacker and the team to create this one-of-a-kind piece, said Paul Hodgkiss. Bringing together design, craftsmanship and purpose for such an inspiring cause has been an honour.”

The Distillers One of One auction is a biennial charitable event that raises vital funds to support disadvantaged young people across Scotland. To date, the auction has raised an impressive £6.6 million. At the previous auction, House of Hazelwood’s one-of-a-kind whisky advent calendar raised £47,500 for the cause.

About House of Hazelwood

For almost one hundred years, generations of the Gordon family have carefully laid down stocks of whisky for special occasions and personal consumption. This rare collection has become known as House of Hazelwood, after the family’s Dufftown home – Hazelwood House.

Today, the House of Hazelwood collection has grown to become one of the greatest inventories of aged Scotch whisky held anywhere in the world. Spanning seven decades and every corner of Scotland, the diverse whiskies held in cask tell stories of remarkable places, lost ways of working, first casks, last casks, the ambitions and achievements of several lifetimes – none of which will be repeated.

The House of Hazelwood inventory is held in several carefully selected warehouses across Scotland, with fresh stocks laid down each year. Prior to bottling, a small proportion of the stocks are held in traditional dunnage warehousing near Dufftown in Speyside, from where they are carefully monitored and sampled ahead of release.

About The Distillers One of One® Auction and The Distillers’ Charity 

The Distillers One of One Auction is a biennial series of ultra-rare whisky auctions, which launched in 2021. To date, the Auctions have raised £6.6 million, principally awarded to the Youth Action Fund with the aim of supporting young people in Scotland, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to reach their potential and make a positive contribution to their communities. The Youth Action Fund’s portfolio charities are Aberdeen Foyer, Action for Children, Enable Works, Fare, Street League and The Talk About Trust (formerly Alcohol Education Trust). They are collectively managed by Inspiring Scotland.

More than 3,780 young people have been engaged through the Youth Action Fund since its inception in early 2022, benefiting from the work the fund’s dedicated charity partners have undertaken, and dramatically increasing their opportunities to enter the workforce. These young people have significantly improved their long-term prospects, either securing employment (33%), progressing to further/higher education (28%), pursuing other vocational training and apprenticeships (19%), or re-engaging with school (15%). The cumulative employability outcome (to September 2025) currently stands at 2,619

A total of 120 unique lots have been donated across the 2021 2023 and 2025 auctions, 67 of which broke world sales records for the distilleries who created and donated them. The Distillers One of One has earned its reputation as a once-in-a-lifetime experience for collectors: no two bottles are ever the same, and no lot will ever be recreated. Each lot is imbued with the spirit of craftsmanship and exclusivity, representing the pinnacle of Scotch whisky.
