Scotch Whisky Auctions The 144th Auction is now live! – Whisky Auction News

The sun is finally shining here in Glasgow and our glorious (if brief) summer is upon us, and to celebrate why not buy a bottle of something special from our now live 144th auction!  It’s a very healthy auction this month with well over 7000 lots of fantastic drams to choose from, whether that be a top-shelf beauty or a summer drinker we’ve got the lot.  Here are a few special bottles from this month’s offerings to check out.

W & A Gilbey from the Wreck of the SS Politician

We often say bottles are ‘historic’ or ‘legendary’ but in the case of the W & A Gilbey from the Wreck of the SS Politician we really mean it.  The inspiration for the famed Ealing comedy Whisky Galore from 1949, The SS Politician was a cargo ship bound for Jamaica which ran aground off the coast of Eriskay in 1941.  This bottle was salvaged by a diver from the slumbering wreck and is accompanied by a letter, magazine article and USB stick full of research documenting the bottle’s journey from the seabed back into circulation.  A truly one-of-a-kind lot.

Macallan 1950 Exceptional Cask #13 2018 Release

Next up is a bottle of unmistakable quality, the Macallan 1950 Exceptional Cask #13 2018 Release.  Distilled over seven decades ago by the Speyside giant, Macallan, this tremendous liquid was then aged for a jaw-dropping 67 years in an American Oak 1st Fill Sherry Butt.  One of only 336 bottles released this dram comes in at hugely respectable ABV of 53.4%, impressive given its long slumber in oak.  This is your chance to own by far the most sought-after bottle in the Exceptional Cask series.

Yamazaki 1990 ‘The Cask’ Sherry Butt

Japanese whisky has long been growing in popularity amongst consumers and investors impressed by its impeccable production, smooth flavours and robust value.  And this Yamazaki 1990 ‘The Cask’ Sherry Butt certainly ticks all the boxes.  Distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2008, this delicious looking dram is one of only 471 bottles released and weighs in at a rather hefty cask strength of 60% ABV.  If you haven’t experienced Japanese whisky at its finest this would be a great place to start.

Laphroaig 1960 Vintage Reserve

Finally, we have an absolute corker from Islay (the undisputed heartland of peaty whisky) the Laphroaig 1960 Vintage Reserve.  Distilled at the start of the swinging sixties and bottled in 2001 at the birth of the new millennium, this is a rare example of a very old Laphroaig.  After spending four decades ageing in wood this dram is described by Laphroaig as being “surprisingly smooth and gentle” while still packing that peaty punch so admired by their legions of aficionados worldwide. There are literally thousands more fantastic bottles just waiting to be discovered in this month’s auction, so now is the time to get scrolling through them and picking your favourites.  Best of luck to all and remember…………don’t lose your bottle.

Still Spirit Strengthens Whisky Business with £1 million Cask Warehouse Investment – Scotch Whisky News

Still Spirit strengthens whisky business with £1 million cask warehouse investment

— The state-of-the-art warehouse will allow buyers across the globe to own and monitor whisky casks with confidence –

Whisky fans across the globe can now enjoy the ultimate whisky cask ownership experience thanks to the launch of Still Spirit’s new state-of-the-art cask warehouse.

Investing over £1 million, the warehouse is equipped with industry leading technology, including a bespoke racking storage system and management software which displays the cask’s history at a glance.

With capacity of over 2,000 casks, the warehouse has been carefully developed to allow Still Spirit to offer a full suite of cask services to private customers around the world – from purchasing whisky casks, storage, tasting samples, regauging, and re-racking, all the way to assistance with selling casks or bottling.

Still Spirit owns and verifies all casks available for sale, storing them in its own secure private warehouse, where strict HRMC guidelines are followed to ensure the proper ownership paperwork is delivered to the owner.

The catalogue includes over 1,000 casks from over 80 distilleries, covering single malt, single grain, and blends from a variety of vintages. All casks are owned by the group, have been verified for quality and authenticity, and are monitored daily by the warehouse team. Clients can manage their cask requests seamlessly through Still Spirit’s new cask e-commerce website for any additional services needed.

Those who purchase a cask will also have the chance to monitor its progress, including visiting the warehouse and sampling the whisky as it matures. Bottling or reselling the cask can also be assisted via Still Spirit’s sister whisky auction business, Whisky Hammer.

Daniel Milne, co-founder and managing director of Whisky Hammer and Still Spirit, said: “Craig and I are extremely proud to be able to open our cask warehouse in Aberdeenshire. This is a milestone achievement for us as it showcases our drive for further establishment in the whisky industry with a notable focus on ‘doing it right’.

“With Still Spirit, we can offer whisky enthusiasts worldwide the chance to own and monitor their own casks with confidence.”

Founded by brothers Daniel and Craig Milne in 2016, Whisky Hammer is a family-run whisky auction service that has achieved worldwide acclaim for hosting monthly auctions dedicated to whisky and other fine spirits. It has achieved the world record for the highest value cask ever sold at auction.

Four years later, they opened their Still Spirit premises in Ellon – a whisky shop, e-commerce site and dram bar offering over 100 rare whiskies.
