Macallan – 71 Years Old 1950 – Tales of The Macallan Vol.1

This landmark release from The Macallan is the first volume in their ‘Tales of The Macallan’ series. This bottle celebrates the life and legacy of Captain John Grant, Laird of the Easter Elchies Estate. A uniquely old vintage, this expression was distilled in 1950 and was selected for bottling in 2021 after an extended maturation of 71 years! Featuring a bespoke crystal decanter handcrafted by French glassmaker Lalique, as well as being contained within a beautiful 800-page almanac created by Shepherds Bookbinders, this bottle is one of only 300 and is not to be missed!

Our auction is almost at a close, finishing on Sunday the 20^th August from 8pm BST. Don’t miss out on your last chance to bid on some interesting bottles, including these wonderful Old Malt Cask classics.

Laid down in 1964, then bottled in 2004 by Elgin bottling giants Gordon & MacPhail using their house style labels, this Strathisla is a lovely example of a range that is becoming ever scarcer to source.

The Macallan Folio series is inspired by original, past adverts that were run between the 1970’s – 1990’s. Each Folio release is presented with an illustrated hardback book that depicts the history of those adverts, which were originally designed by David Holmes and advert copywriter Nick Salaman. The Folio series was first released in 2015, this extraordinarily popular and highly collectable series has been added to with new releases almost annually ever since. Released in late 2020, this is The sixth release of the Folio series.

After releases of the 17 years old it was decided that 18 years was the preferred age for what would become an iconic age stated annual release for the distillery. This 18 year old expression was distilled in 1982 then bottled eighteen years later in 2000.

Regular auction users by now will know the drill, but for those of you that don’t here’s how it works.

From 7pm UK time our anti-sniping software will start monitoring activity on the site, as soon as the bidding begins to slow down significantly the auction will close at an unspecified time.

In our experience it is some time after 9.00pm before the auction ends. 

Don’t worry, there is still time left to make your bids but the window of opportunity is closing.

We’ll send another reminder this evening but if there are any bottles you have your eye on now would be a good time to start placing bids.

We have an interesting lineup of bottles for you this month, including this travel retail exclusive Highland Park 1978 Vintage Collection with a stunning box, designed to replicate a Viking Longship.

Next up, we have not one but two Rare Malts for you this month! A 1974 22 Year Old Inchgower and a 1973 23 Year Old Glen Ord.

We love a limited bottle, so we are over the moon to offer several in our August auction, including this wonderfully limited edition expression form Strathisla Distillery to mark the restoration of the distillery in 1995. This scarce bottling was limited to a mere 600 bottles.

Home collections are available for those customers sending 10+ bottles or bottles to the value of £1000. Unfortunately this service is not available in London or to those customer who live within 10 miles of a collection point.

Collections are limited and offered on a first come first served basis.

It is essential that a submission sheet is completed, you can do so under the selling section on your ‘My SWA’ page.

It would be appreciated if bottles could be packed for uplift with your name clearly marked on the front of the box.

A winner in our auction? We are now offering a delivery service to customers who are dropping bottles off for a future auction. This service is charged at £12 (inc VAT), optional loss and breakage cover is available.
