Whisky Galore July 2023 Auction LIVE! – Whisky Auction News

THE ICONIC BOWMORE 1964 TRILOGY GOES TO AUCTION IN NEW ZEALAND

Available at auction for the first time in New Zealand, the team at Whisky Galore Auctions are proud to present the Bowmore 1964 Trilogy for sale.

Comprised of three bottles, the Bowmore White, Gold, and Black, this Trilogy represents some of the rarest whiskies ever released by the Bowmore distillery.

Filled into a small handful of cask types on the 5th of November in 1964 at the Bowmore distillery on Islay, the start of this series was first released in 2007 with the Black, following the White and Gold in 2008. This Trilogy has remained one of the most sought-after and iconic releases from any distillery on Islay, and given the small number of each bottle produced, their availability has dwindled over the years.

The reputation that these 3 whiskies have is not exclusively due to their rarity; they are regarded as among some of the best whisky that Scotland has ever produced. This lot contains three 700ml bottles including their presentation boxes:

Bowmore ‘Black’ Sherry Cask 1964 / 42 years old 40.5% 700ml
Bottled from five ex-Oloroso sherry casks for 42 years, only 827 bottles were produced of the Bowmore Black.

Bowmore ‘White’ Bourbon Cask 1964 / 43 years old 42.8% 700ml
Bottled from six ex-bourbon that matured for 43 years, only 732 bottles were produced of the Bowmore White.

Bowmore ‘Gold’ Fine Oak Cask 1964 / 44 years old 42.4% 700ml
Bottled from a selection of three ex-bourbon casks and one ex-Oloroso sherry cask that matured for 44 years, only 701 bottles were produced of the Bowmore Gold

This rare opportunity to own the trilogy of these iconic releases begins with bidding opening from the 12th of July at https://whiskygaloreauctions.co.nz, with the sale ending on the 18th of July.

We welcome bidders and interested parties from around the world – you can register to bid at https://whiskygaloreauctions.co.nz, and enquiries for further information can be made at info@whiskygaloreauctions.co.nz or by phoning Whisky Galore on +64 3 3776824.

Overseas bidders are encouraged to please contact WGA to confirm shipping and insurance arrangements.

The 145th Auction is well underway (& ENDS SOON!) ~ Scotch Whisky Auctions News

Our 145th auction is progressing well with bids coming in thick and fast, but with the auction close on Sunday night now fast approaching we thought we’d highlight a few special bottles you might have missed.

Glen Grant 1952 60 Year Old The Queen’s Jubilee Gordon & MacPhail

An expression replete with historical import this is the Glen Grant 1952 60 Year Old for The Queen’s Jubilee Gordon & MacPhail.  Distilled in 1952, the year her reign began, this gorgeous amber liquid spent six decades ageing in a sherry cask before being bottled in 2012 to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee year.  Both the decanter and Swarovski crystal stopper have been designed by Glencairn Crystal with its unique number engraved upon it’s sterling silver collar. The box is made from Scottish Elm, felled a short distance from Holyrood House, and lined with purple Harris Tweed.  One of only 85 bottles released this is your chance to own a genuine piece of British history.

Karuizawa 1965 50 Year Old Single Cask #3037 Elixir Distillers 50cl

As Japanese whisky goes the silent distillery of Karuizawa is about as rare as it gets, and this Karuizawa 1965 50 Year Old Single Cask #3037 50cl from Elixir Distillers is as rare as Karuizawa gets.  Distilled during the swinging sixties this marvelous liquid spent five whole decades in sherry oak before finally being bottled in 2017.  Contained in an understated and elegant bottle this fantastic dram still packs a punch at 58.3% ABV.  Only 318 bottles of this nectar were produced and it would be the jewel in the crown of any Japanese whisky collection.

Linkwood 1956 60 Year Old Cask #20 Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection

Now this a bottle with a long history, the Linkwood 1956 60 Year Old Cask #20 Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection.  Distilled almost seven decades ago this marvelous 1st fill sherry bottling has been specially selected by Gordon & MacPhail and released as part of their hugely respected Private Collection.  One of only 56 vanishingly rare bottles produced this a bottle of supreme pedigree which would enhance even the most exclusive of collections. Some mighty fine expressions there we think you’ll all agree, though with over 7500 bottles in this month’s auction there really is something for everyone.  With the auction closing on Sunday night now is the time to start making your bids if you haven’t already; there is still time to bag that bottle you’ve been coveting so best of luck to everyone.

The 145th Auction is now live! – Scotch Whisky Auctions News

If the dismal weather outside is getting you down, fret not for here is our now live 145th auction to brighten your day!  We have a fabulous cornucopia of spirits on offer this month so you’re sure to find something special to sip while watching the unwelcome summer rain batter down.  We’ve picked out a few special drams from this month’s offerings to get the ball rolling.

Macallan Sir Peter Blake 8 Decades

This amazing work of art was created by Sir Peter Blake and Macallan to celebrate the godfather of pop art’s 80th birthday.  Housed in an oak box that is deceptively simple from the outside the interior is an explosion of colour and ideas, not to mention a miniature of Macallan representing each decade from the 1930s through to the Noughties. The labels on the bottles have been designed by Sir Peter and the oldest comes from 1937 and the youngest hails from 2002.

Dalmore 1926 50 Year Old

This incredible whisky was distilled way back in 1926, and bottled five whole decades later. 1926 was the year when John Logie Baird publicly showcased his new fangled invention the ‘Television’, prohibition was in full-swing in the United States, and it was also the year that the great Houdini passed away.  Considering it’s age this expression is in remarkable condition.  Dalmore as a distillery has been gaining popularity recently in the auction market so you can expect an example as fine as this to be highly coveted.

Bowmore 1955 Ceramic Decanter

Another blast from the past, this elegant and understated decanter was produced to commemorate the opening of Bowmore Distillery’s Visitor Centre on the 12th of September 1974.  The whisky within was distilled in 1955 and again this lot is in remarkably good condition given its advanced years.  This is a rare bottling which has only been through our auctions twice before in over ten years, so don’t miss this chance to own this unique piece of Scottish distilling history.

Karuizawa 1981 31 Year Old Single Cask #78

Another tremendous bottling from the most coveted of distilleries in Japan, Karuizawa.  This 1981 vintage has been aged for over three decades in a sherry butt and somehow managed to retain a hefty 60.5% ABV.  Bottled for legendary French retailer La Maison du Whisky, this fine example of Japanese distilling is one of only 375 bottles released.  This expression is named ‘Prendre le Rythme’, which translates to ‘pick up the pace’, and that’s certainly what you’ll have to do if you want to add this beauty to your collection.

Macallan Masters of Photography Annie Leibovitz “The Library” Label

We started with a Macallan, so why not end with one too.  From the excellent Masters of Photography series this is one of four bottlings made in collaboration with Leibovitz, one of the world’s most celebrated photographers.  The label features Scotia’s own Kevin McKidd moodily reclining in a library, and this particular bottling is the most limited of the collection with only 145 bottles being produced. We have over seven and a half thousand fantastic bottles just waiting to be discovered in this month’s auction, so now is the time to get scrolling through them and start picking your favourites.  Best of luck to all and remember…………don’t lose your bottle.

“Own a piece of history” from Bimber Distillery – Auction Whisky News

A golden opportunity to bid for a rare blend from Bimber distillery is coming your way, made especially for mountain climber Philip Pinchin to raise money for Cobalt, the medical charity that his late mother supported. In April, Philip set off on an expedition to summit Lhotse at 8,516m, the fourth highest mountain in the world. The outcome was that whilst Philip didn’t summit due to health issues, the whisky did! A generous climber from Philip’s expedition took the miniature on their climb and summited Lhotse.  You can own this bottle by bidding in the upcoming auction.

One of the three 75cl bottles and the miniature that summited Lhotse will be auctioned on June 30th until 8th July by Scotch Whisky Auctions. This is an amazing opportunity to own a whisky with a fascinating story. This incredibly special Bimber is an entirely unique marriage of three different cask types, including some of their oldest and finest stock. Be part of this story and own a piece of history!

All proceeds from the auction will be presented to Cobalt.

Dallas Dhu
33 Years Old 1974

The Dallas Dhu distillery was one of the unfortunate distilleries to close in 1983 and has been a highly sought after commodity since. This single malt was first distilled in 1974 and was aged for 33 years before being bottled in 2007 by Historic Scotland, the current caretakers of the distillery. Being one of only 100 bottles, this whisky is unlikely to show up often, so get online and bid while you can!
