Perth-based Whisky Auctioneer offer up a never before seen collection of incredible vintage whiskies – Scotch Whisky News

WA 1

WA IMAGE 2

Perth-based Whisky Auctioneer offer up a never before seen collection of incredible vintage whiskies.

The rarest and oldest vintages from Scotland’s most sought after distilleries will go under the hammer in an exclusive online auction held by Whisky Auctioneer. (www.whiskyauctioneer.com)

The private collection, brought together over many years of devoted searching, consists of 104 iconic ‘dumpy’ bottlings released by Cadenhead’s. As Scotland’s oldest independent bottler, Cadenhead’s have long been known for releasing stunning whiskies but none more so than those from this range.

The entire collection has an estimated worth of over £100,000, with many of the individual bottles expected to fetch in excess of £2000.

Scotland’s most collectible distilleries, both open and closed, will feature in the auction. Amongst the lots on offer will be some incredible 1950s vintages, including examples from Talisker, Highland Park, Springbank and Mortlach. Accompanying these will be no less than six 1960s Bowmore and an extremely rare Ardbeg from 1965, which is one of only 20 released.

With the growing scarcity of vintage whisky many of these bottles have not appeared at auction in recent years. Examples such as a Rosebank 1966 and Glenlivet 1954, that not so long ago were making in the region of £200 at auction, are expected to make ten times this amount in today’s market, highlighting the current demand for bottles of this nature.

Commenting on the auction, Managing Director of Whisky Auctioneer Iain McClune said, ‘This is a truly stunning group of bottles, the like of which we have never seen together in one auction before. Examples from this bygone era of whisky production have become increasingly elusive in recent years, making them exceptionally desirable both to whisky enthusiasts and those looking to invest.’

Whisky Auctioneer specialises in auctioning fine, old, rare and collectible whisky. This exclusive one off auction will go live on Friday 6th October and run until Monday 16th October.

SEPTEMBER AUCTION LIVE; TAKE A PEAK

Our September auction is live and packed full of incredible bottles we know you’ll want to get your hands on!

Summer may be over but the team here at Whisky Auctioneer are committed in making sure that our impressive auctions never end.

Here are just a few of the bottles on offer this month…

Johnnie Walker The Directors Blend Set 2011

IMAGE 2

Only given to very important Diageo types, these sets were never available at retail. With very few bottles making it to the secondary market, collectors have fought to get hold of this essential part of Walker history. There were six bottles in the complete Director’s blend range, this is the full set.

Macallan 1945 Fine and Rare

IMAGE 3

A fantastic example of old Macallan. The Fine and Rare series was designed to represent the very best the distillery had to offer, dating back as far as 1926.

Highland Park 1941 25 Year Old / St Magnus Label

IMAGE 4

Distilled during WW2 and bottled by James Grant & Co. Carrying the famous yellow ‘St Magnus’ label this is a true gem from Highland Park.

Sestante Imported for Carato 8 x 70cl / Van Gough Collection

IMAGE 5

In 1993 Sestante paired up with Carato to release a set of eight stunning vintages from some of Scotland’s greatest distilleries. These vintages are becoming increasingly hard to find, to have them all in one place is extremely special. Each bottle’s label depicts a piece from Van Gogh’s famous collection.

John Begg Blue Cap Circa 1940s/50s

IMAGE 6

An absolutely spectacular bottling of Blue Cap by John Begg. This blend was from Royal Lochnagar and named after the distillery’s founder John Begg.

Clynelish 14 Year Old / Royal Marine Hotel Circa 1960s

An extremely rare 14 year old Clynelish bottled exclusively for the customers of the Royal Marine Hotel in Brora from a cask kept in the cellar of the hotel.

RARE PORT ELLEN ANNUAL RELEASES LEAD BONHAMS WHISKY SALE IN EDINBURGH

Port Ellen

Port Ellen annual releases 2001-2016. Estimate: £23,000-25,000

A rare and highly desirable complete set of Port Ellen annual releases from 2001-2016 inclusive, leads Bonhams Whisky Sale in Edinburgh on Wednesday 4 October.  The 16 bottles, all in their original cartons, are estimated at £23,000-25,000.

The whiskies were distilled either in 1978 or 1979 and released in limited numbers every year from 2001.

Bonhams Whisky specialist Martin Green said, “The Port Ellen distillery on Islay ceased production in 1983, and bottles from the programme of annual releases rarely come to auction. Being able to offer all 16 releases is very unusual, and I anticipate a great deal of interest from collectors.”

The sale also features a crystal bottle of Port Ellen-36 year old-1981 bottled in 2017. Drawn from a single cask as part of Diageo’s Casks of Distinction programme it is estimated at £4,500-5,000.

Other highlights of the sale include:

  • Glenfarclas-60 year old: one of only 360 bottles produced this unique 60 year old comes in a crystal decanter and is estimated at £10,000-15,000.
  • The Macallan-1961: in its own wooden presentation case this is one of 379 bottles and is estimated at £8,000-10,000.
  • Glenfiddich-47 year old-1964: bottled in July 2011 under bond in Scotland for J & J Hunter Ltd., Balmoral Road, Belfast.  In a presentation case, this is bottle 005 of 24 and is estimated at £4,000-6,000
