Impex Beverages “Whisky Lovers Unite as Awards Results Come Out” – Rewarding Whisky News

Look at what your good taste has gotten us! We hope this note finds you in good health and with good spirits, pun intended. While this year is off to a strange start, we wanted to share some good news with you about the bottles you have come to love. Recently, our brands outperformed in the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

PEAT PROVED ITS PALATE-PLEASING POWER

KILCHOMAN KILLED IT

Everyone who got a taste of the extremely limited edition U.S. Exclusive Small Batch #1 knew it was a winner.  Whisky Advocate rated it a 92 points very quickly, and the demand for it skyrocketed.  Now that it has won a
Double Gold medal from this prestigious competition, whatever’s left on the shelves is going to fly off of them soon, we anticipate.  Luckily Small Batch #2 will be here by the end of the month, and we hope it will please peat-seeking palates just like the previous one!

PORT ASKAIG PROVES AGAIN

There are a lot of Independent Bottlers out there, and many bring in excellent expressions representing some of the best that distilleries have to offer, like Single Cask Nation and Single Malts of Scotland.  However, there is one one that just represents the best of Islay – Port Askaig.  And this Port Askaig expression not only won the coveted Double Gold, but won the title of “Best Independent Merchant Single Malt“.  Quite impressive for an ongoing expression with a high proof.  But if you’ve tried it, you can understand why.

The other ongoing Port Askaig expression – the 8 year old, won yet another Gold medal.  Recognized for it’s balance and smoothness, it continues to please.

WHISKIES FROM JAPAN ASTOUNDED

Ohishi has made quite the impact in the competition this year.  Weighing in at 750ml each, this duo proved themselves to be quite the heavyweight Japanese whiskies.  Not only did they Both Win DOUBLE GOLD medals, but the 10-year Brandy cask was deemed the Best Single Grain Whisky! In The World!!

That’s quite the feat, considering that there are many excellent single-grain whiskies out there.  But that’s why we went with those casks –  we knew there was something special about this carefully crafted gem from a small Japanese distillery.

WALES WOWED THE WORLD

The Penderyn expressions from the gold series showed what Welsh gold is all about.  The Peated won DOUBLE GOLD, proving that is the flavor du jour.  The Rich Oak and Portwood were also huge hits, each earning their Gold medals. We are confident that it has been the continued support of whisky lovers like you that enables us to keep bringing in tremendous brands and new expressions for these discerning judges to taste.

NOTEWORTHY MENTIONS

Penderyn Portwood 12 yr Single Cask U.S. Exclusive (PT113) 60.4% abv just received 93 points from Whisky Advocate Magazine in their Spring Edition! The Penderyn Madeira 10 yr Single Cask U.S. Exclusive has begun to hit store shelves near you.

The 2019 Edition of Kilchoman 100% Islay received 91 points, replicating its success with the 2018 Edition.  You can expect to look for the 2020 edition in October.

Also to be noted, Ruben Luyten of Whisky Notes just gave the 1996 23 yo Ben Nevis (52.7% abv) from our Single Malts of Scotland Collection a very respectable 90 points (the US Exclusive is the second one at this link).  This mirrors Serge Valentin’s rating on Whisky Fun.

Thank you all so much!  We will be in touch as the year drinks on 🥃
