Hard To Find Whisky Distillery Focus: Bowmore – Scotch Whisky News

Bowmore is the oldest distillery on Islay, and one of the oldest in all of Scotland. Founded in 1779, the Bowmore distillery produces the second best selling Islay single malt, and is home to the oldest whisky maturation warehouse in the world, the famous No. 1 Vaults. The cool, damp microclimate of this historic site is said to impart a unique character to Bowmore’s oldest and finest whiskies.
Unlike most distilleries, Bowmore has retained its traditional floor maltings, and continues to malt much of its own barley. The whiskies are rich, sweet, and moderately peated, with flavours and aromas of sea salt, citrus, tropical fruits, and bonfire smoke. Sherry cask matured Bowmore displays darker fruits, chocolate, coffee, and spice.
