Kilchoman 3yo Spring 2010 Release 46%abv

The ‘Spring 2010 Release’ has been matured in fresh bourbon barrels from Buffalo Trace for up to 3 years and finished in very active oloroso sherry butts for 3.5 months.

These 3yo whiskies from Islay’s juvenile distillery are truly remarkable, they’re as good as any single malt Scotch – nailing the long dead misconception that under (say) eight years is too young. It’s great.
Distinctively full Islay peaty style, not many more peaty. Hold it on the tongue for as long as you can, the chocolate sits with the peat like (metaphor invited)… A long peaty finish with a cleansing surgical spirit aspect. Water is worthwhile, it retains the great roundness with a seaspary from Machir Bay.

On the flavour map it’s G10, on the smoky side of rich and smoky.

Ahh, is what I said last night after enjoying a tumbler of the wonderful whiskey..I ordered two bottles (the limit) from Royal Mile Whiskey in Edinburgh, along with 3 Jura 10yr Olds (my favorite) and was very impressed with the aroma and taste of this one..Great coloring too! I drink the Jura Superstition ( very smokey-peaty) and this has just the right touch, not too strong..My wife liked it…Nice finish on the tongue and the back of the throat…This one will go with me on an upcoming 4 day fly fishing trip to the Linville River in NC, where we will toasting the trout caught that day, and good times with my mates…Also, it will be in my flask…Aye..
