Invergordon 40 year old, 1977 Sovereign Scotch Whisky

Invergordon Distillery is a bit of a ‘cat among the pigeons’ in the whisky world. Based towards northern Scotland it is somewhat out of place, due to being located among among the malt whiskey counterparts and so far from the belt of Scotland’s grain distilleries across central and southern Scotland. But being the grain outlier distillery has done no harm. In fact, Invergordon grain whiskey is highly regarded. And among the Independent whiskey bottling companies of Scotland, Invergordon single grain scotch whiskey is a reliable friend. Hunter Laing & Co. are one of a number of the ‘indies’ who cottoned on to this a long while ago and a handful of heavy vintage, single cask whiskies from Invergordon under their The Sovereign range. This latest release bottled in February 2017 is no different.
