March Whisky Madness at Park Ave – Scotch Whisky News

March (Just in time) Whisky Madness at Park Ave
From Jonathan & Eric;
We’re as tired of hearing about “brackets” as the next guy but that doesn’t mean we haven’t created a little Madness of our own here at the Park Avenue Liquor Shop.
For a limited time, we have reduced the price on select Single Malts. There are great deals on bottles from Lagavulin, Tomintoul and more.
To take advantage of these new low prices we ask that you please contact the store and mention the March Whisky Madness promotion.

Lagavulin, 16 Year Old
The Islay representative in the ‘Classic Malts’ series is a deep, dry and exceptionally peaty bruiser. Arguably one of the most pungent of all Islay malts, Lagavulin is not for the faint-palated. In our experience, Lagavulin devotees are perhaps the most loyal peat freaks. Recently awarded a Silver Medal from the Malt Maniacs. Did you know that Laphroaig is said to be founded by the son of Lagavulin’s founder? (They got it right, finally!)

Tomintoul, 27 Year Old
This ‘Gentle Dram’ is a remarkable value for its age, as well as being an excellent example of a vintage Speyside single malt. It has a deep amber color with notes of tangerines, spice, honey and orange blossom on the nose. The palate is very smooth, rich, fruity and full. You may experience creamy malt and milk chocolate, orange spice, plus a hint of Sherry (even though it has been aged exclusively in a Bourbon/Oak cask). This expression is excellently balanced and has a finish that is medium in
length, with oranges and cream persisting, along with vanilla fudge and a touch of drying peat.

Singleton of Glendullan, 12 Year Old
This 12 year old is round, elegant, beautifully balanced and comes from the heart of Speyside. It is made slowly, traditionally, with selected barley and pure water from the high hills above the glen. Long aging in a unique balance of European Sherry Oak and American Bourbon Oak casks allows The Singleton of Glendullan to develop its rich, smooth character.

The Last Drop, 1960 Vintage, 48 Year old
Notes from John Hansell of Malt Advocate:
Last Drop: A 12 year old blended scotch whisky was created in 1972 consisting of 70 different malt whiskies and 12 grain whiskies. The blend was then placed in three sherry casks, where it was matured for the past 36 years (highly irregular, to say the least.) The quality of the sherry casks is quite evident, as is the whisky’s age. There’s substantial malt content here too. These three factors, along with the wide range of malt and grain whiskies, combine to create one of the finest blended Scotch whiskies I have ever tasted. It’s dark, mysterious and enormously complex, with notes of molasses, fig cake, dried fruit, tobacco, dark chocolate, old pot still rum, and polished leather, finishing with lingering cinnamon and mint. There’s
no sign of this whisky getting tired at all. I am pleased they bottled it at natural cask strength and didn’t water it down to 40% or 43% abv, which could have ruined it. Rating = 95
