Dailuaine Distillery Founded 1852 by William Mackenzie
Located in the stunning speyside region, the founder was a part owner of a much more remote distillery you might know called Talisker, William had a partner in his new venture in the form of a banker James Fleming who was also setting up Aberlour distillery around the same time.
Dailuaine is one of those malts that so many mistake for another distillery when they see it on our shop board they think it’s Dalwhinnie? (Perfect example of seeing what you want rather than what is)
The distillery was seen as a modern state of the art distillery back in 1852 it was also the first distillery in Scotland to have a pagoda roof built in 188/9 during a rebuilding period between 1884 and 1889 making it the largest in the region at that time. Sadly the original pagoda roof was totally destroyed by a fire in 1917, after rebuilding the distillery opens again in 1920.
If you like rich smooth yet complex drams then this is a malt for you.
Over the last few decades I recall anyway, we have bottled several amazing vintages from this fantastic distillery. This season sees a rather stunning wine cask matured hitting our taste buds. (Stephen at Cadenhead’s)
Creations Grey Stripe Smokey Robust 23 years old 54.3 Vol. 1991
This is a great Blended scotch from our creations range. Made with 1 Cask of Caal ila and 1 Cask of Invergordon
Grey stripe (Robust smoky embers) (Composition: Cao Ila, Invergordon)
This dram is a deep dark colour with more taste than most blends on the market if I could give it 5 stars I would. Worth mentioning this is a cask strength blend and its quite unique.
Nose: Smoke is present , fairly mellow and not attacking. Invergordon provides lots of vanilla and custard cream notes. This nose makes you want to dive in.
