1991 Jefferson’s Presidential Select 18 Year Old “K&L Exclusive” Unfiltered Bourbon 750ml ($74.99) The absolute final stocks of Jefferson Presidential Select 18 Year Unfiltered. Bottled specially for K&L, this incredible and rare bottling is the last unfiltered 100% Stitzel-Weller bourbon to bottled by the McLain & Kyne Co. While typically K&L commissions single barrels for our Presidential, we were shocked to hear that the two barrels we had selected had gone MISSING from inventory! We were especially upset when we were told that Jefferson’s stocks of 18 year had all been diverted for a blending project they were working on. If you don’t know the Presidential Select, it’s one of the last bottlings of the legendary Stitzel-Weller distillery which closed in 1992. Lucky for us they took the last few barrels and made a tiny batch of unfiltered whiskey with the few acceptable casks. When we heard we weren’t getting our single barrels, our hearts sank, but to make up for it these guys agreed to ship the last palate of the unfiltered for a K&L Exclusive. Honestly, I was worried because many of the single barrel samples were not showing well and the two we selected seemed to be the last good ones around. My fears were alleviated when my sample bottle arrived and I cracked it open. I have to say, sometimes a small batch whiskey has its advantages. This shows even more depth and intensity than our single barrels. This is the best I’ve tasted from Jefferson’s. Talk about going out on a high note. Plus we wrangled an even better price on this stuff. Very limited.
