Whisky Lounge News and Events For April & May 2011 – Scotch Whisky News

Hi all,
Ah the signs of Spring are finally upon us and I feel like a mole emerging from hibernation!
Plenty of things happening in the world of whisky and especially the Whisky Lounge! There are plenty of Whisky Festivals to look forward to, several in new locations – so look out for more news on these to come.
Our ‘Independent’s Day?’ tastings finished a couple of weeks ago and proved very popular. If you were there (or even if you weren’t) you can read a review of the tastings and the whiskies on our Facebook page – click here. If you don’t do Facebook and ask me nicely, I can email you a copy…
No sooner does that series finish that a new one starts, and what better way to follow that up than with an enviable selection of whiskies from the Chivas Brother’s portfolio of distilleries and brands. For each of these tastings we will be welcoming Phil Huckle, the Chivas UK Brand Ambassador and long-time friend of The Whisky Lounge, and he will be good enough to show us SEVEN of their finest plus maybe a surprise…
For those who don’t know, Pernod Ricard (the owners of Chivas Brothers) are now responsible for a bewildering number of distilleries, including The Glenlivet, Scapa, Aberlour, Longmorn and Strathisla as well as the Chivas Regal and Ballantines blends – we will be tasting a fair few…
Pernod Ricard – Glenlivet et all…
Manchester, The Britons Protection – Friday 8th April
London, The Red Lion, Crown Passage – Tuesday 12th April
Newcastle, Blackfriars – Friday 15th April
York, Cedar Court Grand – Saturday 16th April
Leeds, Mint Hotel, Granary Wharf – Friday 13th May
Tickets are £22 and are available now from the website – click here to be taken straight to the events section…

3rd Newcastle Whisky Festival – ‘Early Bird’ Ticket Price finishes soon
For most of you our festival events need no introduction to this. A full afternoon of talking to those who make it, whilst sampling more whiskies in one location than you can shake a stick at! On entry you are given a Glencairn tasting glass, bottle of water and a festival guide – all for only £20! There will be masterclasses a-plenty and details of these will be released very soon. What is even better is that until Monday 4th April tickets remain at the ‘early bird’ price of £18 if booked through the website. After this date, tickets will be reverting to their new regular price of £20, so be quick!

As a reminder, the date is…

The Civic Centre
Barras Bridge
Newcastle Upon Tyne

Exhibitors are also on the relevant web-page and are also updated with reasonable regularity on our Facebook page – click here to get to it. Keep an eye on it for masterclass news too…
Anyway, that’ll do for now – keep well and I hope to see you at a WL event soon!
Slainte!
