An impossibly dark and rich single cask dram from one of Islay’s unpeated outliers, independently bottled by our friends at The Loch Fyne.

Bunnahabhain is both one of Islay’s largest distilleries and one of its most remote. Its generous stills, filled low and run at an unhurried pace, produce a soft but sumptuous spirit, known for aging well and particularly well-suited to sherry cask maturation.

A superb example here from The Loch Fyne’s Fynest range, its full two decades spent in powerful ex-oloroso sherry European oak. Deep chestnut in colour and with deep flavour to match, it’s in keeping with Bunnahabhain’s established style yet takes it to a profound level of intensity. Bottled at an extremely potent 65.3% abv, water softens it, draws out many-layered nuance, but takes nothing away from its fundamentally decadent and rather grown-up character.

One of 504 bottles from a single cask, distilled in September 2005 and bottled in April 2026. Presented at 65.3% abv, free from artificial colour or chill filtration.

Raisins, sherry, the darkest of dark chocolate and a waft of ozone on the nose; water brings out stewed black cherries, blackcurrant leaf and hints of menthol oil and cinnamon. Intense on the palate – old fashioned rich fruit cake, burnt caramels, spiced dark chocolate torte, and liquorice coins, with oily oak and a surprising, potent punch of eucalyptus. Tawny orange and lime marmalade and tingling sweet spice meld with punchy tannins on the finish.
