Confusingly for a regional category, Island is not officially recognised as such (Islay is its own category) and these distilleries are technically grouped in with Highland whiskies. Informal it may be, but Island is a commonly understood term and a fitting acknowledgement of some of Scotch’s most fêted whiskies.
