Just as we were starting to discuss our joining of forces, we were presented a handful of samples from our reps at Wild Turkey – Russell’s Reserve Camp Nelson samples to be specific. Now WTRR enthusiasts know all about the famed Camp Nelson so having a handful to choose from was special. Barrel 25-1220 from the E house on the 4th floor was the standout. This exclusive single barrel non-chill filtered 8-year-old was distilled on 2/1/17 and bottled on 12/9/25. The nose is all brown sugar and baking spices, a bit of wood (of the polished variety) as well as cocoa/dark chocolate. Caramel and vanilla notes make you think of movie theater candy. On the palate, all of this gets elevated – adding black tea to the mix. This 110-proof bourbon is a smooth, delicate, gentle drink. The finish is clean and time in the glass adds to its appeal.
