What is a Silent Distillery?

Distilleries that are no longer in operation are known as silent or ghost distilleries. While some have been mothballed for an indefinite period, others have been permanently closed or completely demolished. Once production has ceased, any remaining Whisky from these distilleries becomes highly sought after.
