Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 401: Eddu Brocéliande
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a French whisky. Eddu is produced by the French Distillerie des Menhirs in Brittany. Founded in 1986, but whisky distilling only started in 1998. As Eddu is actually the Britton word for buckwheat, you’ll realize we’re tasting a grain whisky. Brocéliande is the name of the enchanted forest from the Arthur legends, about an hour’s drive from the distillery. Merlin is rumored to be buried there. Anyway… the whisky first matured five years on casks from the Limousin region before being finished on Breton oak made from trees from the enchanted forest.
