Whisky Shouldn’t Cost the Earth…
A new whisky sample subscription has launched in partnership with Prevented Ocean Plastic, with the aim of removing plastic waste from environments where it is likely to be washed out to sea, whilst sharing great whisky.
Whisky Pioneer will send out a minimum of 5cl per month to subscribers, focussing mainly on single malts, with information included in the delivery and additional found on the website, WhiskyPioneer.co.uk. Whenever possible 6cl will be shared, and a number of new releases and exclusives have already been lined up for whisky fans to enjoy.

Importantly, by joining Whisky Pioneer whisky fans will be removing waste plastic from the world, as Whisky Pioneer bottles are made from 100% recycled plastic that has been collected from coastal communities. Instead of it being washed out into the ocean, where salt and sun degradation make the plastic largely unusable for recycling, it is turned into a useful product. “We can take action as an industry, and as consumers, by preferring recycled plastic products, by choosing Prevented Ocean Plastic,” says Raffi Schieir of Prevented Ocean Plastic

After use, the bottle can enter the recycling system ensuring that plastic is used again, or better still it can be reused. Whisky Pioneer rewards members who return their bottles with free whisky, allowing those bottles to be used again and again.
Together we can make a difference!

About Prevented Ocean Plastic (POP)
PreventedOceanPlastic.com
What are the goals of the POP program?
Increase demand for recycled plastic instead of new plastic. Create income opportunities in coastal communities. Prevent ocean plastic at scale
What is Prevented Ocean Plastic (POP)?
POP is recycled plastic collected from coastal areas at risk for ocean plastic pollution. This ocean bound plastic, according to academic definitions, would end up in the ocean if not collected for recycling. Prevented Ocean Plastic is the first fully traceable, certified recycled material from coastlines available in large volumes for a wide range of commercial applications, ranging from food packaging to cosmetics to PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Allowing brands to offer their consumers packaging that is a better plastic choice.
How much has already been collected?
Prevented Ocean Plastic is the largest program of its kind, preventing over 1,000 tonnes of plastic from entering the ocean every month. The POP program is a product line supplied by Bantam Materials who have prevented over 10 billion bottles from entering the ocean since 2005. This prevention at scale provides reliable income to coastal communities for the recycling of billions of bottles yearly.
The Problem
Projections suggest that by 2050, our oceans will contain more plastic by weight than fish.
Why Prevented Ocean Plastic?
Once a bottle is in the ocean, it is too late. The salt and sun degrade the plastic making it largely unusable for recycling. Recycled plastic is washed, decontaminated and tested to ensure it adheres to EU standards for packaging. The main reason new plastic sells more than recycled plastic is because it is cheaper, not because it is better quality. Each shipment of Prevented Ocean Plastic is certified by OceanCycle, the leader in providing third party audits for ocean bound plastics. The Prevented Ocean Plastic program elevates and aligns plastic recycling standards across coastlines at risk from ocean plastic pollution.
