Girvan 40 Year Old

One of our customer favourite anniversary and birthday gifting bottles.  Distilled 1979 and bottled 2019 exclusively for TWB from a single cask.

Few bottles remain of this golden whisky which has a nose of blackcurrants, toffee apples and mint. The palate is mellow but sweet with notes of raspberries, blackberries and green herbs. The finish is long, with lingering spice. Girvan 40 Year Old 1979 vintage Lowland single grain Scotch whisky. Single cask refill hogshead #16642 distilled May 1979 bottled May 2019 by Hunter Laing & Co. for the Sovereign series. Selected and bottled exclusively for The Whisky Barrel. 291 numbered bottles.

Girvan Distillery is a Scottish Lowland grain whisky distillery situated on the Ayrshire coast. It looks out to the island of Ailsa Craig the source of granite from which curling stones are shaped. William Grant and Sons Ltd opened this distillery in 1963 to supply grain whisky to their blends of scotch but with careful maturation in quality casks Girvan is also able to produce excellent single grain whiskies.
