A new limited release from Loch Lomond’s Waypoint Series, inspired by their spectacular surroundings in the Trossachs National Park. The 31 Year Old celebrates the Inverarnan to Inversnaid trail, a wild and soaring route running along the north-east banks of the loch. The route is challenging, yet exceptionally diverse and beautiful, and Master Distiller Michael Henry honours it with a whisky equally worthy of exploration.

The release brings together 31-year-old peated whiskies – the oldest ever peated liquid released by the distillery – distilled exclusively in Loch Lomond’s unique straight-neck stills and matured in three types of ex-bourbon American oak casks. The whisky was then finished for 12 months in tawny port pipes, lacing the distillery’s signature honeyed, softly smoky character with ripe berries and bittersweet chocolate.

One of under 2600 bottles released, it’s the first in a new series of old and rare whiskies from the distillery and is bottled at 44.1% abv, free from artificial colour or chill filtration. The whisky is presented in a handmade wooden case shaped like the straight neck stills that made it; an internal copper tube beautifully illustrated by artist Brett Beacon depicts the Inverarnan to Inversnaid trail that was its inspiration.

Ripe, dark forest fruits glazed with honey on the nose, with dark chocolate, red summer berries and cedarwood on the palate. Soft, elegant woodsmoke and black cherries on the finish.
