Killowen Distillery is proud to present the fifth chapter in the Sagaland journey, Killowen Barántúil: The Young Son.

While whiskey-making is our craft, Sagaland allows us to tell stories that reach beyond the cask, blending Ireland’s mythological, culinary, and artistic heritage into one immersive experience.

For those following since Part 1, this release continues our collaboration with The Irish Mythology Podcast and FabCow / Fran Leavey, uniting story, sound, and visual art to bring Ireland’s ancient legends to life.

The Whiskey

Upon tasting this whiskey from the cask, the harmony between the spirit and cask finish meant it was a standout worthy of being part of the Sagaland series. Matured exclusively in a 200 Litre Appleton Estate 15 Year Old Black River rum cask, the influence of the cask was refined and measured, allowing the character of the spirit to remain at the forefront.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich tropical fruits and Irish Orchard fruits with demerara sugar. Complemented by notes of straw on harvest day.

Palate: A viscous, mouth-coating burst of apricots, orange peel and pineapple with a background of pot still spice, caramel, sultanas, and subtle Jamaican rum funk.

Finish: Long and warming, with notes of apricot, coconut peel, mango and passion fruit.

The Story

The Young Son. Each Sagaland release includes an insert card revealing the next chapter in the myth. Part 5 introduces you to The Young Son of The Dagda, the god Aengus, written by The Irish Mythology Podcast.
